  1. Hi I just got a Nizo 561 it looks like it hasn't been used for years. I put in some fresh batteries but it doesn't seem to run, except for the light meter and zoom, I have used the electric remote, but still doesn't work, although I am not an engineer/technician I opened ithe side panel up and looked inside and everything works when I touch the starter motor/electromagnet thing, but seems that the electromagnet itself is not been triggered when I press the release trigger. Can anyone help me? Pav
  2. Just an update I have uploaded a new telecined and graded version on; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PKiuE1pb_Uc http://www.vimeo.com/1766416 Pav
  3. Thanks for all your comments I really appreciate it. We were going to shoot at 24fps/25fps but the action was slightly longer than 2 minutes, so we compromised and shot at 18fps. I was impressed at how good the motion was at 18fps. Syncing was done every few seconds, a couple of times not line by line. I do think the camera wobbles too much, maybe it wouldn't be that obvious if we had shot at 24fps. There was lots of traffic I think we did 7 takes. I have had a mixed response about the story, some didn't like the it. But I think it is interesting, keeps us thinking, very real and even spooky and both the actors are very good, their mistakes make thier performances more real. By the way it was based a real conversation, a chap who wanted to talk but yet there was something wrong. Pav
  4. Hi Thanks for your comments, there are a few times when the footsteps don't sound right, and the actors did make a mistake at several points forgetting their lines and ad-libbied. But this was just a test, a trial to shoot dialogue with Super 8 , there isn't another ending. Pav
  5. I thought I'd share, www.vimeo.com/1766416 I shot this film about a year ago, I wasn't happy with the original telecine so I have had it telecined again. Pav
  6. Using Super 8 cameras with a widened gate (Max 8) is great for 16.9, but one of the problems is that hardly no one will do a professional telecine especially for negative super 8 and this wide frame in the UK. The only guys that seem to do it are Pro 8mm in the US. I have come across an Ursa 444 machine with a Super 8 gate modified for the wider image. I know The Ursa is old but has been refurbished and has new tubes etc. I need some advice from forum members as getting this machine and starting such a venture is a big comittment. Is there enough demand for a new service in the UK dedicated to Super 8 broadcast telecine? Pav
  7. I need to sell my Canon 16M camera, Bauer 715XL (Super 8 camera), a Eumig S94O stereo Super 8 projector and a Goko RM500 sound recording editor- they are all working and in pristine condition, I have some Vision 2 16mm unused film. I also have lots of Super 8 gear that isn't working properly like a Nizo 800 Super 8 camera, super 8 editors that I need to get rid of too. Anyone interested send me a message. Thanks Pav
  8. I need some advice on using Vision 2 200 T in my Nizo 156, I know this is a tungsten film and that my camera would read it as 160 if the internal filter isn't in place. Can I use this film for filming in Dayliight and if I leavwe the cameras filter (85) in place what will the camera rautomatically read the film as? Pav
  9. Hi Can anyone tell which camera I should use to create a video tap for my Super 8 Nizo. I think I need a camera that pinhole/bullet camera that can focus . Pav
  10. Thanks for your replies. I want to film both day and night shots, the scenes are on an open country road where there aren't any lights, there aren't any street lights, just streches of feilds. It would be cool to shoot a stationery car but somehow create an illusion of movement maybe through blue/green screen? Pav
  11. I am planning to film two people talking as one of them drives. I have been thinking about it for a while but haven't actually done it yet. I am planning on using a Nizo Compact Super 8 camera. I will use a polorizing filter. I think it would be good for the camera to be clamped to the front of the bonnet for a medium two shot? But I need to know how I can film a close up side shot from the passenger and driver seat. Would the camera have to be set at the wide angle setting? And will focussing be an issue without a video assist? Can you have a camera clamped to the the side window? Has anyone done this using Super 8? If filming a stationery car how can I give the illusion that it is moving? Thanks Pav

  13. Thanks for that, I thought that without the filter in place the film in a compact Nizo the film will be read as 160, because without the filter being there more light is passed through to the picture. I wasn't sure what the 200asa film will read as with the filter in place. If I don't cut out a filter notch can I use use an external 85 filter for when filming in daylight? I do have a sekonic lightmeter but I am not very confident for using it with super 8 as I am not sure what to set it on to mach my camera which is a Nizo 156 macro. Any advice on using an external light reading? Thanks Pav
  14. Hi I need some advice on using Kodak Vision 2 200asa tungsten film in a nizo compact camera I believe this camera will read the film as 160 when set to the bulb setting (filter out). Can I shoot this film outside and would I just swing in the built in filter in place would this give the right exposure? Any help would be ideal on what stocks I can use which cameras that only read 40 asa and 160. Pav

Hi If anyone is interested I have put up my sound recording editor on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Goko-Sound-Recording...1QQcmdZViewItem Pav
  16. I am selling my 16mm movie camera, a Canon Scoopic 16M, it is in very good condition, (it?s not the one of the older grey models one often sees on Ebay). It takes 100 feet daylight loads, the zoom lens has a focal length of 12.5-75mm F1.8 and macro function, with speeds of 16, 25, 32, 48, 64 and single frame control. It has an ASA range of 20 - 640, with Electric Eye automatic and manual exposure. I have tried to sell it on Ebay but both times I have had dodgy buyers (Sams) people who have wasted my time. This is a great easy to use 16mm camera has been well looked after, it's fully functional and has a new battery box. It comes with its case and instructions manual. Message or email at pav@lightbreeze.co.uk for price and pictures. Pav
  17. Thanks for that I have just emailed them.
  18. I have always recorded sound wild and synced up in the edit. The camera I use for sound work is the Braun Nizo 6080, it is very, very quiet and and ideal for filming dialogue. I am filming another short in May which is a 8 minute scripted film, each shot will be around 6-7 seconds. I know my camera will stay in sync for about 5 seconds, though if I shoot at 25 seconds the cameras speed is much more constant. I also find it good to keep a picture and sound log on paper, this is a must in the edit. Pav
  19. Thanks everyone I really appreciate you all taking a look and sharing your thoughts. I had read about the possibilities of filming with an enlarged gate a few years ago the ratio is 14.9. It's a similar philosphy to Super 16, except with Super 8 you can't move the lens and this will cause some vigneting at some focal lengths, I think the amount of vignetting varies from camera to camera. I took out my cameras gate and put it aside I then replaced it with an enlarged gate I took out form a non working Nizo camera. I had filed this gate myself. There are people/companies who will widen the gate for you, try these guys www.friendlyfirefilms.ca All seven versions were telecined on a workprinter including the negs. I will get a rank transfer done as soon as I have some cash.
  20. Thanks for all your comments and sugestions. The film is part of a series of shorts that I am doing about the frustrations and gradual despair of one man, a nice like-able person who goes off the rails and degenerates and ultimately commits a crime. We follow him through a series of isolated events and encounters. I have just uploaded a Kodak vision 2 version. I like the look of the vision stocks, they're clearer though I think the performances were better in the Ektachrome, I do like the slightly tilted framing in this one too.
  21. Glad you liked it. Every five seconds or so the sound shifted, and I had to make an adjustment usually cutting bits out of the sound track (the visuals were running slighter faster). We were planning to shoot at 25fps but the action was longer that the two minutes and suited the camera to be slower hence the 18fps. I told the guy who did the telecine that we shot at 18fps and he sent me the transfered Mini DV, as far as I know there weren't any issues with the 18fps during telecine. I just uploaded the Mini DV onto my Adobe Premier and synced up the sound. I will upload the vision 2 version soon. Pav
  22. Thanks, glad you liked it. I want people to give their comments and feedback, the wobble isn't too bad on a tv screen where you can see the faces of the actors. I think You Tube doesn't show off the sync that well. The telecine was a workprinter which works great for reversal film but wasn't brilliant for the Vision stock which needs a lot of grading. I need to get a Rank type or similar telecine done for the vision before I upload it. Pav
  23. I have just uploaded my film on You Tube Hope the link works. I shot my film with a small crew and two professional actors. The film is in one single shot without any cuts at 18 fps using a complete Super 8 cartridge. In all we did 7 takes and used Ektachrome 64T and Vision 200, the version I have uploaded is 64T. We used a steadycam made from a monopod, a mini disc recorder and a Bruan Nizo 6080 which has a widened (super duper) gate. The telecine was a workprinter. Pav
  24. Hi I want a 35mm print for screening. I shot the film on Ektachrome 64T at 18 frames per second, with dialogue recorded separately. Can I use a workprinter and film each individual frame with a 35mm movie camera? Because I have shot at 18 fames per second how would I adjust/compensate for the 35mm which will run at 24 frames? Thanks Pav
  25. I am selling my Canon Scoopic 16M. This is a well built 16mm and looked after camera, it is not one of those earlier grey models. It has a new battery box, it works brilliantly, never lets me down and it's a shame that I am selling it, but I want to upgrade. I am open to sensible offers. Pav
