  5. Thanks David! The Nelly Furtado Say it Right video has the same type of flares... Anamorphic?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_CayCjo3XA Thanks! Christophe
  6. Hi guys, thanks for the answers, I tried searching for that video again but since this singer is so, so bad, I think it must have been removed from all the websites in the world by all the webmasters out there!! But I found a photo from the video, showing the flare actually, it can be found there: Ihttp://www.chantalenadeau.com/2007/news0207.htm Scroll down and you'll find it, Interested to hear what you guys think this is! And I'd love to know more about that old trick you talked about David, that out of synch thing... Thanks! Christophe
  7. Hi everyone, I wish I could post a picture but for some reason I can't... I have seen this video lately, actually Adam Gregory?s latest video - "One Breath", I can't find it online though... The flares in the video are gorgeous. It looks like anamorphic but knowing that the budget ofthevideo wassmall it probably was not... The flares were long lines going across the frame... they came from the practicals in the shots... I have never seen a practical flaring that much or like that... I have never tried a streaking filter but I understand that this is what they do... Though every shot I have seen with a streaking filter was shot in dv or hd and looked bad, the flares had these chromatic aberrations on the edges and the lines were too perfect... The lines from the flares in that video were really nice... Is there a trick, something else, not a streaking filter that could produce something like what I am describing? Maybe vaseline on a glass filter right where the lamp is in the frame and spreading across horizontally in a line pattern way? I also have heard something from a french cinematographer, they use large glass plates in front of the lens, about a foot from it, and flash it with either a flashlite, or a kino tube while holding it at the proper angle.... Anyone tried this and could show us examples? I also want to make images that flare but were not sources can been seen, flares coming from the edges... Has anyone tried flaring the lens with a lamp just out of frame? I tried it with ultraprimes using a joker bug and it did not work... Any advice???? Thanks a lot!!! Christophe
  8. Hi, I went to see Cashback last night, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how they did that time stopping effect. I'll describe it for the ones who have not seen the movie, the main character stops the time in a supermarket and walks around the alleys in this frozen moment, there are people, objects in the air.... It looks like mime, but I am not quite sure... Anyone has seen the movie and have an insight on how it was done??? Thanks!!! C
  9. Has Lynn Ramsay produced anything recently??? I have seen both Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar, Ratcatcher is one of my favorite movies... I also saw it a long long time ago, I have to see it again...
  10. I have seen the movie today, the effects are just plain sick...
  11. I used Christian's Techniscope last year for a video. Great camera but Cinefilm is not a reliable rental house, equipment is old and poorly maintained... I was actually talking about this with my assistant this weekend, she said that he has a lot of trouble keeping this camera in proper working condition. Make sure you test and test and test before shooting anything serious on this. Christophe
  12. Another way of doing this, if you happen to be shooting this on location, is to use a big source, 12k Fresnel let's say, cover your window with tracing paper and flood your light. I just did this for a music video, it looked really good. C
  13. Hi everyone! Where is the archive on this forum? Where can I look up for older threads? I am looking for threads on the interior lighting in Northfork in particular... Thanks! Christophe
  14. Hi, I have seen the preview of 300, the photography looks pretty insane, you should check it out. http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/ c
  15. Hi! I have this shot to do of a girl in this kitchen, all the appliances are brushed stainless steel, it's a long steadycam shot, focus isn't on the appliances but I am quite afraid of the reflections of my lights and myself in the appliances... Any tricks, suggestions on how to light this??? I went to the location today to solve a few technical issue before the shoot and it puzzled me.... It's a very reflective surface althought it's brushed... And I can't avoid facing them in the shot... Thanks for your ideas, help! Great appreciated! Christophe
  16. Thanks a lot David, again! I understand better what Daniel meant. I will be shooting a 60i NTSC monitor (cathodic screen) at 25 fps, I am shooting for PAL but in Canada. I asked for a synchronisator to be added to my camera list but will it solve the problem entirely? While I am at it, I also heard that plasma screens don't have the pulsation when you film them at 24fps 180 degrees, is that correct? Thanks!!
  17. Hi there, I'll just reformulate my question here, all my lighting is flicker-free, the problem is the TV, regular cathodic screen tv, I know that when I usually shoot a tv, I set my shutter angle to 144 degrees at 24 fps, what do I set it at when shooting 25fps? Thanks
  18. Hi, I will be shooting a video for a french singer shortly, the director wants a shot of a tv included, I know the angle for a tv here (60 hz (I don't know if it matters actually but I'd rather mentionning it) ) shooting 24fps is 144 degrees, What would the angle be shooting 25fps? the same, 144? Thanks a lot! C
  19. Hey Jose, I don't know if you'll stick with us on this forum, but I could help you with your english... It is not a problem for me, I told you already, if I am on the forum at the same time as you, I am logged in quite often, just send me a message, I'll help you out translating either your questions or your answers! José, comme je te l'ai déjà dit, il me ferait plaisir de traduire tes questions si tu veux... Ou encore de traduire les réponses, demande-moi, si j'ai le temps, ça me fera plaisir! Christophe
  20. I have read in an interview, which I posted a link to somewhere else in this forum, that Bela Tarr shoots on kodak stocks. But in the case of the Werkmeister's Harmonies, he shot on different stocks, not just Kodak, also cheaper stocks... which he did not name. C
  21. Thanks guys! I'll look into this... I also thought of getting a couple of HMI 6ks PAR instead, but they might be too hard, I have not used these either... Can these be put on hydraulic stands?? Thanks! Christophe
  22. Here it is, I found it! Bela Tarr uses kodak stock. her is an extract from an interview. http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/30/belatarr1.html [No, the longest is the first one, in the bar. It's 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Because afterwards the camera runs out of film. Kodak cannot make it longer than 300 meters, which is about 11 minutes. So that's your only limit? Yes (laughs), this is my limit, this fu**ing Kodak (laughs), a time limit. A kind of censorship. Christophe
  23. Ok, I am going to ask something simpler here! Maybe it will get my discussion going! I have this big house (maybe 60ft large) to light from the outside, it's covered in windows, I was thinking of a couple of HMI fresnels 12ks, or just one HMI Fresnel 18k, I can back up my light source a bit from the house, would one fresnel work good to cover a house, would it give me enough light and coverage diffused through a 12x12 silk? I have steadycam shoots were the talents run around the house so I need light coming through all the windows. What type of stands would allow me to put a 18k 30-35ft up in the air? Thanks! C
