  1. After having successfully done a camera conversion with him, and some lenses modification, I sent him a lens years ago (about 12 ago or more) He never replied and I never had my beautiful lens back...
  2. I had similar problems with a S16 conversion made by Les. Also I never got back a lens from him after calls and emails
  3. The producer/director has the 2k data files in a hard drive they looked great at technicolor, but i guess there was a 3d Lut to make it look like the final 35mm copy.. wich was never done due to money issues
  4. Hi, I shoot a S16mm feature in morocco It was scanned to 2k and did a grading for film printing at technicolor London Now the director has this grading, and has done some DVD with it As it was graded to be Filmout it is not right in gamma on the PAL dvd... black is not 0 white is not 100 ire So.. Could i apply a gamma correction over the 2k files on a mac pro to make a dvd, bluray properly?? what software is the best for this? fcp color? thanks in advance Fulgencio
  5. Hi i see a lot of these indian steadicams on ebay. How good are they? will they do a good job with pana hvx2000, and eclair ACL? Thanks F.
  6. Hi, I hope you guys don´t get anoyed for asking a question about still photography. as a filmaker i have always used continuos lighting i´m doing some b/w photos for bands i have some cheap flash units, umbrellas and a sync trigger id like to know if any of you know about a cheap digital camera i could use to check the lighting i have a small canon camera (ixus 55), but cannot get the flash to sync even in slow flash sync mode does any of you have an answer? thanks Fulgencio
  7. Hi guys, Thanks for all of your replies finally the red camera hasn´t arrived to the rental house, and F23 will be busy for some time... :( ooohh i´l go with 900R, digiprimes and record on extenal SRW-1 Any tips on this? does anyone have experience with this setup? btw, what does DIT stand for? My camera assistant has experience with f900 (not 900r), so i guess it would be right. We are going with a reduced crew, so no engineer (never brought a mechanic, nor a chemestry guy shooting on film ;) ) Should i lower details settings as i do with digibeta? Do i need any especial viewing assistance to use hypergamma? Any problems with 24p? thanks
  8. thxs for your answers Looks like i´ll go with F23 Why do i need an engineer? i don´t think we have this posibilty either but i never had an engineer on a shooting! never used hd, but used nearly every digital system by myself i´m a bit scared about this engineer thing, please tell me Isn´t it enough with a vectorscope and a monitor?
  9. thank for your answer i know the diferences in resolution my interest is more in the latitude, compresion and overall grading posibilities afterwards. hdv has more resolution than digibeta, but i´d never shoot with it. What about redcode? is it better or worst than hdcamsr? is it 4:4:4?
  10. Hi, i´ll be shooting a short film and i have the chance to work with this too cameras. Wich one would you prefer? i´d like to have 35mm DoF so if i go with f23 i´d use pro35 adapter. will hdcamsr have more latitude and post control than recode? or all the way around? i have no experience with any of this cameras Should i work with a waveform monitor my experience is basacally on film, and digi beta, mini-dv.... please help thanks
  11. Really i don´t need to move the camera. Just set it vertical and frame, but no movement
  12. hi, I need to shoot a very far overhead shot. All i have used before is a scorpio head with a 13m arm. I feel for this shoot it might not be enought as i need to set the camera at least at 10 meters high and completely perpendicular to the ground. I´ve seen systems based on wires for football match. Do you know this systems? Anyone has experience with them? is there any other options for this shot? thanks
  13. Hi Stephen Maybe there is more to the story as you say. but if there is i know nothing about this all i know is what i told. I had this problem years ago it is not something i´m angry about right now, so i´ve gone mad today. i have checked my email box and last time i wrote him was friday 25 march 2005 This was my last email, after calling him many, many times and sending him many emails. fist time he told me about doing the follow focus was Monday 1 July 2002 I keep all the email we sent. I gues he has had time to answer back, or at least send my lens wich i bought from canada and sent to him. In the relation we had i always paid him inmediatly, but suddenly this happened. NO EXPLANATION, NO ANSWERS, NOTHING I have not seen his face in my life, so please don´t think i have something personal against him. Just i think i´m doing well telling others what happened to me You can take the advise or not that is up to you. When this happened i was a boy trying to become a DOP Now i´m an active member of AEC and IMAGO I´m a professional, and do not waste my time making stories What i said is completely true.
  14. Hi i think i did not have the same kind of experience with Les Bosher. He told me he would make a follow focus for me, so i should get some kinetals and 15mm rods. After more than 1000 euros spent and a whole year calling him many times and waiting for an answer i you stopped bothering about it. He even has a 37.5mm cooke lens of my own wich i asked many times to send and never got back. He is that kind of man who says he can do anything but at last it is not true. DON´T TRUST HIM
  15. Hi, I´m interested about knowing wich are the main diferences betewen the two cameras. Is the xtera lighter than XTRProd? (is it similar in weight to arri 416?) Thanks
  16. Hi, in your opinion what is the standard working time for a long feature? I mean how many hours of work before considering it extra time. 9+1? 10+1? And how many days a week? 5+half? 6? I feel i´ve been abused about working hours in my first films and would like to fix this in my next contract. thanks
  17. Hi, I´ll be shooting a feature film on S16. It will be most or maybe completely shoot handheld and probably long takes. I´ll be shooting with and A camera with an AATON XTR or similar, but would like to go some days with an AATON MINIMA. The thing is i´ll do light and camera and as it is a low budget feature i know from experience that it´ll be lots of hours (too many in my POV, but that´s another battle) with the camera on my shoulder. Another thing is the director is a very good scriptwriter, but first time directors. So..... Is there anything like a PL-mount director viewfinder with videoassist? so i could do rehersals like this without hurt too much my shoulder. Any other idea?.... Should i take esteroids?
  18. Hi, I´ll be shooting a doc in MiniDV Pal. I have experience with the panasonic dvx100 but not with the JVC. I have a good deal for the JVC, it is capable of shooting HDV but i think i´ll go MiniDV. Wich camera is better for it? Color & latitude? Thanks Fulgencio
  19. So is the hdx900 the same model in Ntsc and in Pal countries? will i nedd to take a spanish hdx900 with me to shoot 25p in canada? Will i nedd a NTSC hdx to shoot 24p in Spain? I´ve heard 25p is better than 24p because of editing issues. Anyone knows about this? Thanks
  20. Hi, I´ll be shooting a documentary in Spain (where i live) and Canada. As i belive television in Canada is based on NTSC system. If it was a spanish doc i´d use Pana HDX900 at 25p. The thing is i´d like to be able to output a high quality dvd in NTSC format for Canada, and another for PAL countries. What would be the best shooting aproach? 25p? is the hdx900 diferent in spain and in canada? is it better to work with another camera system? i´d like to get the best of both systems( NTSC,PAL) but if some preference is needed it would be for NTSC Thanks Fulgen
  21. Hi, I have my first website. I made it myself without any previous knowledge about html or anything. Please tell me your thoughts Thanks Fulgen www.fulgenciomartinez.com
  22. Hi, Nowdays every still photographer has some skills on photoshop. I thought maybe it is time for me to go that way. so... What is the best software for a cinematographer to use as a personal post station? I though about Discreet Combustion because of it´s ability to work with Lut´s and files like cineon or dpx. I think it i could try to learn it as a color grader and basic composer. Is it a good choice? i wouldn´t want to waste my time learning software that will be useless later. I´d love to hear your thoughts or (even better) experiences on this. P.D: I know lustre is better, but it is out of my personal budget.
  23. Hi, I´ll be doing some bleach bypass on negative for some scenes in a short. The lab says the can only do complete bypass and no flashing. Can i get a similar effect to a flashed blecah bypass by doing a pulled processed bleach bypass. Does anyone have experience on this?
