  1. Should I purchase a canon elura or some such to capture the tapes that I film with the vx2100 so that I can preserve the life of the heads and other internal parts??
  2. THEN SEE IT YOU SHALLLLLLLLLLLL http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=61...iting&hl=en LOL I KNEW I could find it!
  3. Hey, You may or may not know me from the n00bie forum, but my name is Sam and I would like to be a director (sometimes of photography) one day. But, for now I humbly throw myself at your feet as a GRUNT! :) I read a very nice post on how to get into the business and basically I need to get my hands dirtY! Right now my hands our mildly dirty with two fingernails showing minor signs of grit. I am looking for a mudbath, or female mudwrestling refferee type position. Please, help me, the way to help me is by having me help you. I am available for intern starting November 3rd, when I arrive back home in Los Angeles. Thanks :) oh and If you would like to see my work here ya go... no lighting experience :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-sbXxEoZ6A -Sam 323 309 6125
  4. I enjoyed reading this thread. There are so many things I don't understand, but that's okay. No questions :) I wonder how the project is going?
  5. Hey I just wanted to thank you all for all your help. Many of you responded to my questions with honest helpful answers... in fact I believe that all of you did. I decided to purchase a vx2100 because it is an intermediate camera and I HOPE*** that I am a low level intermediate night elf priest..... wtf.... anyway I hope that I am an intermediate camera user (maybe a 3.2 on a scale of 1-10). I was lucky enough to find a new one for 1900. VERY lucky because that leaves me a little extra money for a uv filter for the lens and a wide angle lense/adapter?. Oh so here are a few quick questions. The big battery for the vx2100 is the np-f970. Now, there are generic ones and there are the name brand ones. They are both less than retail on ebay. Is there a big difference? I mean... is there ANY difference because I would rather pay 50 for a 100+ product that works better than paying 25 for a 90 dollar product that works slightly less better? Well anyway, that's why I'm asking. There are inexpensive wide angle lens/adapters and there are pretty expensive ones for the vx2100 which uses 58mm doo-dads. Can you recomend one that won't break the bank? This time I'm not goin for the best one because .. well lets say my budget is under 200 for sure but prefferably under 100 or around there. Thirdly I believe there are some add on lights for this camera and an adapter that allows connection of an xlr-MIC. I really wanted the pd170 but you know that's okay.. I'm not planning on buying this pro mic adapter any time soon but I just wanted to see what you thought. And I think one of these 10/20 watt light inserts possibly plugs right into the camera, maybe in that same slot that the xlr adapter would have. Last question... and thanks if you made it this far. Is can you recomend an inexpensive stabilization system. I'm talkin like the kind I still hold. I saw some crazy ones that attach to your waste and have an extending moving metal arm... I dunno about that, thats why I'm asking. I like to do my shots manually ... assuming I'm not on a tripod so... and I know the poor mans stabilization is folding up the tripod and leaving it attached to the cam and holding the tripod handel. What are your recomendations.. price range 50-150 but under 200. okay. Well, I Really appreciate it. For now, I'm not planning on buying any lighting equip except maybe that add on I mentioned. I really look forward to learning all the manual features this camera has and reading the manual. I'm really glad I found this place and I'll try not to clutter the message boards with many topics, that's why I just made this a big one, but I figured I would get more respondes if I started a new thread. Thank you Thankyou, and maybe one day I'll move up in the world. Oh wait, I did today :)! CHEERS SONY DSR-VX2100 !!! HOORAH! -Sam Well, ble
  6. I can't answer your question, but I can say that I did the same thing for my previous camera which I thought I had read on the net that it took at 27mm filter but it ended up takin a 20 mm filter and of course I had purchased TWO 27 mm filters (only 5 bucks each ) but still it just goes to show you don't buy the parts for your cam till you alredy have it and are reading the manual or takin it to the video shop with you!! :) good luck!
  7. Heard, Yeah I learned about the "bait and switch" tactics and to make sure to specifiy AMERICAN model and not get sold the IMPORT model. It's tough man, I remember just a year ago I could buy off of ebay with confidence, dang I can't believe the JUNK now!
  8. I was actually just offered a new sony pd170 (with the mic + regular accessories) for 2500..... I think I'm gonna take it.. but I'm waiting till tomorrow to order, and or if you guys post. Whoa that thing has MAD features... this aint no HC96hehe. I'm willing to learn.
  9. See some used on ebay, some used on craigslist. But let me ask you where is the best place to buy a new vx2100? The "electronics websites have them from 1200 dollars... I bet those are the chinese models wiht no accessories. Amazon.com has it for 2300 ish. What can you recomend? I want NTSC us model with standard accessories and warrenty. THANKS :)
  10. You guys are so experienced. Well, I will be living with family who has multiple vehicles, so I think we can factor a lack of transportation out of the equation. I hear you about the computer just being a luxery while the camera is more important. Ok, the lighting... I haven't thought/learned much about this yet. I suppose research is more justified than me just asking you to explain it. Mmmmmmm. So do you guys recomend against a vx2100 then? I mean do you recomend I save up for an Fx1? I feel that it would be best for me to own a camera, but not nesc an expensive one, so I'm thinking the vx2100. Yes I am stubborn, but I really am trying to listen to what you guys say. Thanks for bearing with me, Sam. Oh yeah and to the individual who watched the 30 mins of my video, Thank you sir! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Maybe some day you can watch the rest :)
  11. Hey Guys. I have read and researched for a while now. I'm already hungry since I started. J/k. I've been thinking about this for a while, but actively researching this notion for over a week. I am basically going to be living in the same building that I work in, so I decided (probably stupidly, but that's ok) to sell my car. Unfortunatly its a POS and I will be left with 3000$ in cash. Other than that I will probably have 200 or so more, but not really. So... I edit on a PC, I have a p4 2.3 Ghz ATA setup UGH! I'm going to just give this to my mom. I can set up a nice system that will accomplish my audio/visual N.L.E. needs for JUST under 2000 including tax. (Intel duo2.4Gh 2 340gig SATA fast drives, 2 gigs ram, room for upgrades, etc.) It's of course not the best editing system but it would do a good job for a student like me. So, IF I did that I could immediatly afford at Panasonic PV-GS500 which is consumer grade 3CCD that at least has a manual focus ring. But ugh even as I type that I know I at least want a vx2100, but they are SO expensive, and there at internet websites that advertise them at prices around $1500 us, but I have learned that they are all scams. So, there are a few questions here. I could get the vx2100 camera now and keep my CRAP computer and not be able to run premiere pro 2 which I already own. I could get the computer and no camera and (I do work) save up for the vx2100 as well. I could write to you guys and ask you what to do (I'm choosen this for now). And last question, either way, can you please recomend where I should purchase my vx2100? Or should I spend everything I have on an FX1? I did read AND think about the advice "Just rent it." But, I'm a pretty spontaneous person (I haven't learned to use scripts or shot lists yet [i will.. I hope]) Also I remember the other advice about don't buy the camera with the most features because by the time you even get to them, something new will be out and the one you got will be so much cheaper. So, that's about it, I tried to cover all the bases. PLEASE help me out. Right now I'm leaning towards the computer and then save up for the vx2100 but can you please tell me how bad that panasonic camera is and tell me where to buy a cheap but complete vx2100? And, If it makes any difference I am a musician who wants to film his own music videos (not nesc featuring me). Well, thank you very much for reading and for your knowledge which is boudless and so very helpful. Thank you, Sam C www.69samurai.com
  12. I can see both perspectives.. But I like Price's better. And btw, which camera did you get?
  13. Now that was great! The first one didn't hold me. But this one really did and I liked it. I don't think I would watch it again though, just being honest. Nice work though for reallies.
  14. It's so high quality! Who decided to use the red light effects? They seemed interesting but a little distracting. It was pretty good!! The camera work surpassed the storyboard and music in my oppinion.
