  1. I was reading the manual and noticed that it said with the electric motor the film speed should run above 24fps. But that's what I want to run it as. It has a crank so if i have too I'll use it, but has anyone ran it at 24fps with the motor running? Did it come out fine? What about putting it at 25fps matching sound to it then in adobe premiere bring the clip speed down a percent? I don't think that would cause any harm to the resolution. I know to many shortcuts can hurt something but if there's no harm done- why not. (The camera can be ran at any speed between 8fps and 64fps)
  2. Perf different? Could you elaborate? Differ how? I have some print film too and I'm curious about the perf. Is that because it is A wind and not B wind for camera? Even if it is A could it still run. I've heard it can. Ya'll are talking about shooting print right?

  4. I just tried to watch it again on another computer, but it won't let me. Sorry. The yellow highlights and it being so blown that there isn't any shadows in those highlights made me think it was more video/digital than film. I think you have a great idea for what you want to do. I've noticed most civil rights footage is Black and White and are long and wide shots getting the crowd. As for color 8mm/16mm I've noticed that used more in nasa stock footage or vietnam stock footage. That might be an interesting contrast to throw in there. Civil rights crowds, the humble folks in vietnam, the crisp conservative folks on bleachers watching shuttle take offs. Maybe not, I was just running with it. But i do like your original idea.
  5. looks like video was too dark so they brightened it and then contrasted it. Maybe some more stuff like saturation, but i doubt it. but that looks to be the main things they did. But i didn't watch it. That's how it looks from the still.
  6. Along with the 16mm camera i bought the owner sent me a spool of 400 feet b&w reversal tri-x 7278-832-16. Its from 1967 and is still unopened in the fresh looking can. 1 perf. Anybody ever use this or would you? I lucked up too- he also sent tri x 7266 which is newer, I was planning on shooting the feature on 7266 and this seems to be a good time to use what he sent for the film test. So if i go with the 20 percent discount for 7266 at kodak that would put the 400 foot spools at around 64 dollars. This may be the route i go. But I'll still keep an open mind and welcome more input. Thanks everyone!
  7. I do remember them now telling me that they were changing their chemicals over when i asked them if they processed the 64.
  8. At 24 fps- try 2 minutes. A little more- but you have to subract the film that is wasted on beginning and ending scenes. Also, if you have some stuff you want speeded up shoot that at 12 fps or 18fps. That will save you film. If you shoot the stuff you wanted speeded up at 24fps then speed it up in editing its a waste of film. Don't forget to change your film speed back though and use the filter in daylight.
  9. I see your point, but i don't have the money for a dp. And I've been still photographing for over ten years. film and digital 35mm. I've done video and super 8 shorts and I believe you can direct through the viewfinder. I really wouldn't be taking on this task if i thought i couldn't do it.
  10. I'm financing it myself. A friend/actor offered 2,500 but I'm going to get as far as i can without it. I've done some shorts and i'm a photographer so I'll be directing and doing camera. I worked at a television station where i learned editing and I have adobe premiere. I've edited the shorts we've done too. So I'll save some money on a photographer and editor. Immediate production costs will come with the film, food, and a trip to san antonio, TX- at some point. And insurance.

  12. I noticed some deals on fuji 16mm negative recans. Seems 16mm tri-x reversal is hard to come by on short ends and recans. Can i shoot the negative, have it processed, then have it transfered like you can with reversal? (And is Fuji 16mm film harder to get developed than kodaks?) I wouldn't think it is but had to ask.
  13. Yeah that's what i was after - short ends/recans. They shouldn't advertise they have them if they don't, not just film emporium, but there are a couple of places that haven't got back to me. They should put some disclaimer below their listing it as if they have it in stock. Anyone know where I can find recans or short end B&W tri x 7266 reversal?
  14. Don't worry about the 1/60th you'd still have to set the exposure to match that. Just use the automatic feature.
  15. I don't know what a micro MV is, but I'll try to tell you something. Random tips: Are u going to be operating the camera too? At your age I would think that you may not have much camera experience so get one that does things automatic. Something you don't have to think on- meaning it adjusts to the lighting right away without you haveing to manipulate any settings. If you do have to manipulate anything have the camera's shutter at 1/60. Also make sure there is an external mic. Plug in a mic and run it along a broom stick or a swimming pool pole. Find some pole and you can attach a mic at the end, run the mic cord down the pole and into the camera. At the end of the mic cord there should be a "male end" plug it into the camera's mic hole, "female end." Use tape to secure the cord to the pole so that it doesn not sag. Have extra cord at the end of the pole so that your boom guy can move around with out jerking the camera. You are going to need at least one guy in your crew. A best friend would work. He could hold the make-shift boom mic. Make sure the mic is on always when shooting. Hold it above the actors' heads. Make sure you don't get the microphone in the camera shots or your best friend's shadow. When looking through the camera make sure you can see peoples' faces. Too much shadow is not good. If lights are an issue, shoot outside. When inside shoot near windows where the window light comes in on the actors. Don't have light behind them or too the side of them brighter than the light in front of them. There is a lot to know. The more you know the more you can manipulate to your own tastes but until then I hope this helps get you started in some way. Two of the most important things are light and sound. Make sure you have light and clear sound. Then just tell the story. Some short stuff would be good. A one page script. Don't stray off of it too far. You want to start something you can finish.
  16. I will be directing my first feature sometime next year. I've done some shorts on video and super 8. I'm doing the feature in 16mm. I have a bell and howell filmo hr with 400 foot magazine and electric motor. Being a very independant film maker with a very low budget is there any input someone else who has went from shorts to fetaures might have to give. Anything about time and talent management?
  17. I've been informed that 16mm stock is hard to come by. I'm looking for s16 B&W tri-x 7266 or regular 16mm. The camera I have runs both, but you don't get the full benefits of s16. Does anyone know how much koday charges for 400 ft cans or what company might have some stock available? Film Emporium was selling it for .10 a foot, but say it is scarse.
  18. I had fresh batteries in mine and it went completely dead. Someone had to run to the store thirty minutes away. When i took the batteries out to exchange them i realized the contacts were dirty. Something to check before a shoot for sure now. It was a yashica too.
  19. I've heard that at a certian point the frame rates become unnoticed. Going from 24fps up to 30fps is noticeable but on up i don't think it becomes anything new. That's what i heard, but i'm going to check it out, I'm curious now

    Ya'll sound like a bunch of mushy poets. (kid'n) taking care of your elders is a natural law. I guess you need to determine if you want to obey that law. If you decide not to in some form, you will be operating outside the laws of humanity.
