  1. I tried to go back and edit the prices but it doesn't look like it worked, it looks like i can't add. lol. I have a yashica too. make sure you clean it before you shoot with it. I don't know what model you have but the lens should screw off for cleaning. And get a can of air to blow the inside clean. This will cut down on debris. Are you going to do sound? That's another can of worms if so.
  2. Kodak has cartridges. k64 i believe, they were doing k40 but don't do it anymore. Exclusive Films in canada will process it and transfer it. If you have batteries inside the camera push the button. It should run. You can open up the door and pull back the plate a little to see if the teeth are turning. Or just look at it without touching the plate I believe the teeth will stick out a little where they suppose to grab the film holes. I don't have a super8 camera in front of me so i'm going from memory. You can get it processed and transfered at Exclusive films. Or you can check with dwayne's photo in the states. I know they processed some k40 for me. I don't know if they transfer though. It costs about 14 bucks for one cartridge of 50 feet at kodak. The processing is cheaper at dwaynes. I think it was about 25 dollars for two cartridges. At Exclusive films i had 4 processed and 6 transfered. That ran about $180. The two i had only transfered seperate were on a another bill. They cost 25 bucks to transfer. So if you shoot two and have them developed at Dwaynes for 28 bucks then transfered at Exclusive films for 52 bucks then two cartridges will cost you 14 + 25 plus 27 = 66 bucks. Of course having them done at one place may have a different price but you have a ball park figure now. That's a start, at least you know where to look now. You can try other places, and you might find better rates (don't forget shipping). Also, there may be a set up fee and tape fee. If my numbers are off on prices my bad, but you can freely contact these locations and get a quote. They are pretty friendly people.
  3. I watched this back in 93. I was 23 and just fell in love with it. must have watched it over 5 times. I just bought a vhs copy off the web. It should be here in 4 to 14 days. Just out of curiousity does anyone have any interesting facts about this movie. What film was used? What camera? How long did it take to shoot? I heard he was 80- years old when he did it and it was his last film. By the way he did a thing called "the silent war" ( i think it was called) very good even though it was a government war movie about the soldiers spread of sexualy transmitted diseases.
  4. I think it is called halation? I'm planning to buy 7266 tri-x but became aware that there might be some ghosting, b/c B&W film is bad about getting the reflection coming in off the gate/plate. Besides correcting the gate/plate problem what 16mm B&W reversal helps prevent the ghosting effect.
  5. This is to answer a post about buying lights at home depo- I'm a couple of years late on this post, but the home depo or any other stores like that have good lights. You can get the work lights for about 8 bucks. That was 8 0r 10 years ago. But the work lights have a bracket on the bottom for setting on the floor. And the lights can be positioned while the bracket remains stationary. Take a saw and cut the bracket in half. Take one end of the bracket off the light keeping the other end still attached. The inside of the bracket is hollow. You can shove the end of a light stand up in it. Then, keeping the light attached to the bracket, you can still position it while the bracket remains stationary on the light stand. I made three of these. And bought two other ones to leave on the floor. I shot one or two shorts using them and made them black and white. It wouldn't be a good idea for the commercial unless it was black and white, make sure you have even light, then soften it in Pro. People might make fun of you though.
  6. Altered States and Conversation are among my favorites.
  7. Thanks, that's just what i needed to hear. If you know off hand what color reversal might match it that would help. Because there is a painting and some stains on the fingers I want to shoot in color and desaturate it so it is balck and white but the color stains. would anyone know what color reversal grain would match the tri-x 7266 black and white 16mm film?
  8. B)--> QUOTE(Steven B @ Jul 13 2005, 08:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Robert or anyone... Is a filmo 70DC single perf? Thanks! Steven I'm waitng on a filmo now. I bought one and it is being shipped. I had the same question you did. And still do. But I read where one guy said the filmos during the 40's or after could shoot single perf. Anyway, i believe the ones that can are because the other sprocket is missing due to where that is where sound went. So you can run single perf through the newer models. I'm sure the 70's ones where news tv used them are single perf. Also the filmo lenses will not put a super 16mm image onto the super 16mm film. The lenses and stuff are made for regular 16mm so you will get a regular 16mm image on super 16mm film. But you can still use super 16mm which is always available. Also from what i've read the regular 16mm image would have to be cropped at top and bottom to make a cinematic 35mm blow up in the U.S.A. But regular 8mm is just right for the television.
  9. I started to read that book and didn't get far into it. I think that was the book.
  10. Hey I'm new, I'm shooting a feature in the following year and have narrowed the film down to 16mm Black and white Kodak tri-x reversal film 7266. I was reading where it can be developed as a negative. But it will be grainier that way. My question is- if I shoot on this and decide to do it as a negative will it be too bad for blow-up? Will it still look good for dvd release? And can they transer negative to mini dv for editing? If so then I could still transfer it to mini dv for editing and make a good product for possible television/dvd release, and have a negative for blow up just in case right? Or should i just stick with reversal? Your experience and input is greatly valued.
