    switar primes

Hi, Does anyone know the front thread size of small C-mount switar primes (31, 8mm, 32mm?)? Thank you, Marc.
  2. Hi, The mag is too expensive, you can pick them up a lot cheaper quite often on e-bay. As for the viewfinder, you definitely want a Kinoptik for the ACL, expensive and not too easy to find, but so much better. Good luck, Marc.
  3. Hi, The only C-mount adapter I have found for a Bolex bayonet lens does not seem to work on the Poe vario switar. Does anyone know why, and if there is an adaptor available to fit the bayonet Poe onto a C-mount camera or if it is a possible conversion? Regards, Marc.
  4. Hi, Does anyone out there have an Eclair ACL service manual (in benglish or french)? regards, Marc.
  5. Hi Ryan, Best way I have experienced if you want to shoot in film (video is more complicated) is borrowing or renting a camera that is equipped to run sync with the projector. i would also advise projecting on a 45° angled mirror wich reflects the image on a small screen. There's a lot of info about such set-ups on the internet. Good luck, Marc.
  6. Hi, Is anybody familar with Oskar Heiler tripods and hydroheads (older german made I believe)? Marc.
  7. Thank you, Evan. By "most situations" I mean not being short on equipment each time the environment and natural light are not helping... So I gather I should invest a little more and go with a three stage box from the start? Regards, Marc.
  8. Hi, A DP friend of mine in Belgium has owned a LTR for some time and wasn't satisfied with service until recently, when he sent it to Holland equipment in Amsterdam. He says it came back purring like a kitten and he price was very reasonnable. His name is Sebastien Koeppel, producer is Julien Sigalas at Tabula Rasa, Bruxelles. They said to talk to Niko at Holland equipment, mechanic for Aaton. If you need some customizing, they say Les Bosher in Wales is great. Good luck, Marc Barbé.
  9. Thank you, Mike. I get that's easy enough. Marc.
  10. Hi, For 16 and S16mm shooting, would you say a 4X4, two (one rotating) stages matte box would cover most situations? Marc.
  11. Thank you for this helpfull advice, Tim. Marc.
  12. Thank you, Tim. I'm working in S16 to be blown up 35. I do intend to test the lenses thoroughly; I was just wondering if trying to put those types of lenses together made sense at all. Regards, Marc.
  13. More specifically, I was wondering about using zeiss primes with a zeiss T zoom, or' cooke primes for daylight (100 asa) with a zeiss T zoom for nights (25O asa). Marc.

    Zeiss lenses

Hi, The only info I have found is that the T* stands for a "multi-coating to prevent brilliance". My question is: is a Zeiss T* compatible with any other Zeiss prime of the same generation? Marc.
  15. Hi, Does anybody know where to find a listing of Cooke and Zeiss lenses by year and serial number (from the sixties on)? Thank you, Marc.
  16. Rubbing alcohol (the clear stuff only, don't bring any of the modified yellow or blue poop anywhere close to film), unwinding film gently through chamois between thumb and index; shake or scrape residue of the chamois every three or four feet. When slime is off, give it a second run wjth film cleaner. If emulsion comes off the first few inches with alcohol, give it up; just let the film dry out or use a hair dryer then get a good old beat up first generation Eiki or Bauer projector for 50 bucks and have yourself a show. Marc.
  17. Hi, Kodak's achievement in film throughout the 2Oth century is amazing; Kodak has openly given that up. Given up Kodachrome, given up most everything before Vision2, which is a beautifully well balanced boring soft scanner-oriented material. This is where we are at. But we can't blame Kodak for movie cameras, they haven't really tried anything beyond Instamatics in the past fifty years. Fuji's new stock is beautiful in the 25O's and 500's. Hopefully, there will be some 16mm film available in the next fifteen years. As for Kodak, they are interested only in achieving their conversion to HD, wich we all know is ,at this point, "even better than film". Marc. Marc.
  18. Hi, I went through the same quest recently and finally got an ACL2. You'll find plenty of informations and links on the 16mm forum about Eclairs. Marc. Good luck
  19. Thank you, Bernie. Somehow I thought loading the film clockwise might be a problem (lack of imagination on my part, I guess, or too much of it...) Regards, Marc.
  20. The Eclair ACL 1,5 user's manual says film can be loaded emulsion out or emulsion in indifferently, just as long as the film enters the first two rollers of the mag emusion out. Does this mean you can just twist the film before sliding it between the rollers? Wouldn't that create a tension problem and endanger proper registration? Marc Barbé.
  21. Hi, I'm setting up an ACL 2 to shoot a feature; it came with two Eclair on-board batteries and charger that hold up fine, but I think it wise to get a new battery pack just to be sure. The plug is canon to the camera and jaegger to the battery. Any suggestions? Thank you, Marc.

    used lenses

Has anyone purchased used lenses from Cinevision-NY. Are they reliable? What is their reputation? Thank you, Marc Barbé.
  23. Hi Brian, I'm very touched by your search. I've recently shot three b&w negs from kodachrome, then reshot them whith red green and blue filters. The result is wonderful in depth and color fluctuations, closer to some strange 3D painting than to special effects. Good luck on the next steps, Marc.
  24. Hi, I'm aware of the PL adaptor for the ACL. Will the ACL take bayonnet mount lenses and does it meen another adaptor yet? Marc.
