  1. Im prepping a job in Florida, to be shot about 2 hours outside of Miami. I was wondering if anyone has had good experiences with any Miami rental houses, and if anyone could recommend anything. Im looking at an EX3/ PS technik setup, or a RED. thanks.
  2. I know this has been brought up here and there in these forums, as I have seen bits and pieces in regards to different lens series and their traits. My question is this: where can one find a comprehensive breakdown of the characteristics of some of the more commonly used lenses (Cooke S4's, Zeiss Super Speeds, Master Primes, Ultra Primes, Digi Primes, etc.) Such things as find sharpness, blade number ( and how this effects the circles of confusion,) and color characteristics is something I would love to see all together in one place. If this has already been gone through on this forum, please let me know as well.
  3. The only thing I noticed is that you broke the 180 degree rule.... by placing him on the left hand side for some shots, and then on the right hand side for the two shots. This is typically avoided, since it tends to take the viewer out of the piece.
  4. Just shot this video about a month ago, and am pretty happy with how it turned out. This was a 2 camera shoot, and we used a HVX with the PS technik adapter, with Ultra primes. My only stipulation with the video is the opening sequence, the work against green screen. Since I never know exactly what is going to be created in post, I tend to go off my discussions with the director about how the lighting against green will work with the CG background. In this case I happy with the results. http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkt26yNqTJg
  5. Yeah, I was pretty set on the lekos, it was primarily the end part of the video, with the much larger fixtures on the floor, and then the strobing, lighting strike like effect.... that as well seems like an easy solution. I guess I was primarily looking to see if someone has done this before and has some advice before I start ordering.... or even talk to my gaffer for that matter.
  6. May have a shoot coming up that will require very similar lighting effects as this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnubiAyN-6o Just wanting to know exactly how this was achieved.... what fixtures were used? thanks
  7. James, sounds like a good project. Please take a look at my reels on my site... the footage you will see is 35, 16, and HD. I am very experienced with 16mm, and would love to shoot for you. Let me know what you think. thanks. -andy
  8. Yeah, this was my question exactly.... not something most people are used to.
  9. John, sounds like a fun project. I am interested in the job and would love to come out for it. Please take a look at my site and reels, (which are in the process of being updated with additional work.) I have some questions for you about the project, and would love to discuss them with you, should you be interested in working together. Either way, good luck on your project and drop me a line if you would like to talk. thanks. -andy
  10. I have a shoot coming up that I am want to use some net diffusion on, but I honestly dont know which are good ones to use, and was looking for some different recommendations. thanks.
  11. Sam, I applied directly through the link you posted. Is there any other direct email address to apply, or is this sufficient? thanks.
  12. Im shooting a short next week, and Im looking to pair up the EX1 with the mini 35 adapter, but have had no luck so far finding the correct step down ring to adapt the two together. Does anyone know where in LA I can find the neccessary hard ware to adapt the two together? thanks

  17. I just finished my new site, www.andypatch.net. Im looking for feedback and comments. thanks.
  18. Im about to shoot with the mini35 adapter/zeiss super speeds on the HVX, and for the life of me I cant remember if while shooting slo-mo you can the spinning ground glass, since obviously that is a big problem. This seems like an obvious answer, but I was just hoping for a response. thanks.
  19. As far as I can tell the Arri system is just an adapter, allowing the shift/tilt effect with regular PL mount primes, as opposed to using the shift/tilt lenses from say still photography...
  20. I was wondering if the Arri tilt/shift... http://www.fletch.com/rentalarrishiftandtilt.html ...can be used with the HVX. I would assume i would need an intermediate adapter to go from the HVX to the arri adapter (M2 or mini35) which would mean 2 adapters on top of the lenses... ultimately killing all my light. Any other way to get the tilt/shift effect? (apart from still lenses and a 35 adapter) thanks.

    first RED shoot

I recently got hired for a feature length documentary/television special on a historical chicago neighborhood, by a production company who will be receiving their RED camera within the next few months. I had researched this camera very thoroughly a few months ago, but not as recently, as I didnt foresee myself using one so soon, and I am very happy the oppurtunity has presented itself. However, in the mean time I plan on doing as much research as possible ( as well as my own extensive tests) in order to prepare for each stage of production...particuarly so I can shoot for the best post production workflow, which I have heard so much negative feedback about. So with that in mind, I would appreciate any and all feedback from first hand experiences with the camera... lenses, CF cards, accessories, ideal formats, gamma, latitude etc... things i should prepare myself for, etc. I appreciate any and all feed back...I plan on making the most of this, and only can through the necessary prep. thanks!
  22. Hey everyone, just figured Id post my work up here to get some feed back from my peers. thanks. http://www.andypatch.net/docreel/docreel.html http://www.andypatch.net/shadowsfall/shadows.html http://www.andypatch.net/soundsoffaith/soundsoffaith.html http://www.andypatch.net/narativereel/narreel.html there is two more on there, but i figured those would get the idea across. thanks.
  23. Certainly gives me alot to think about, but I guess my main issue for investing in a camera was to give me an advantage for breaking into the business I'm aiming for a little easier. Either way, thanks for the advice, and I would certainly appreciate some pointers on investing in equipment for the reasons Ive said above. thanks. andy patch
  24. I'm writing because I'm interested in investing in a camera package, more for documentary, broadcast, and TV reality/travel purposes. I know at this point that I'm going tapeless no matter what, and love the P2 workflow (when sufficient cards size and amount are used.) I was wondering really how the Panasonic HPX2000 compares to the 500, since apparently they shoot same resolution and formats, only with the HPX500 benefits of multiple frame rates (which i love.) Anyway, if anyone has some input as to the major difference why one should be chose over the other, I'd love to know.....although my gut instinct is to not buy a camera now with the RED out.... thanks. www.andypatch.net
