  1. I will. Thanks for your help.
  2. This was a test question about filters that I had in college yesterday. The professor just wanted us to answer with a basic understanding of 85 and 80 filters usage in indoors and outdoors situations. Just the basic abc for each situation.
  3. On the other hand: On film you don't have a 3200K button that allows you to warm up the scene outdoors as you have with a video camera. Only the ISO of the film which in this case is daylight. So you add the CTO in the lens of the camera. When you go inside the cto plus the tungstens lights makes the light doble warm. Is that reasoning acceptable?
  4. If I am going to film with daylight film an indoors scene then, what kind of filter should I use? 85 or 80? Why?In my opinion it should be 85 (orange) because in indoors there will be tungsten, so in order to level that temperature with the film I must use the orange filter. Am I right? Please help.
  5. The cinematographer has a lot of work to do, but the director is involved in the production before the shooting starts and even after.
  6. The robots in Transformers for example, can they be done in camera?
  7. But, dont you think that the FX that you see in Life or Pi or Pirates of the Caribbean are way better than the ones you can do with a dslr? I mean, don’t you need an specialist to do that?
  8. How much of SFXs a director must know in order to make the movie? Is he supposed to have a great deal of knowledge of this field before embarking in such kind of projects? Must the cinematographer know this subject too?
  9. My question is how much of SFXs a director must know in order to make a movie? Is he supposed to have a great deal of knowledge in this field before embarking in such kind of projects? Do they teach special effects for directors? Is that something that the cinematographer must know? Thank you for your time.
  10. Hi everyone. I am about to start the 2 years of film studies at LACC and my goal is to become a film ditrector. My likings, which used to be quite broad, have narrowed down to movies where especial effects are of the essence ( Life of Pi, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.) My question is how much of SFXs a director must know in order to make the movie? Is he supposed to have a great deal of knowledge of this field before embarking in such kind of projects? Thanks.
  11. I have shot with a V1U and a Z5U and it seems that all my videos look more or less the same in terms of color and light. What options do I have to make it them look different one from the other?
  12. I do not own a business. I am jus a guy with a z5u, a few lights, a Vinten Tripod, and mics, who does camera work for fun. How can I insure all of that? I hesitate in going out an film something because of the fear of being robbed. But, as I said I do not own a business. Is it still possible to insure my gear or that's just for video businesses?
  13. Do I need one of those when filming with my Z5u?
  14. It lasts around three minutes. Please let me know what you think. Thank you. (filmed with a Sony V1U). Link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHaiu5OwcRk
  15. You will find them hanging out in the parking lot of Home Depot, if you need a dog sled driven, igloo built, baby seal clubbed, or snow shoveled. R, What is it with the Home Depot as the place for illegal immigrants? They are everywhere, even making hundred of dollars as servers in the best restaurants you can find. Or working in their own businesses (as wedding videographers). Or buying and selling small lots of real state. Or as camera operators for indie movies. You guys should forget the cliche of the Home Depot. That's passe.
  16. My father wanted me to be a MD (he used to sell furniture for laboratories and hospitals). My mother wants me to get married and to work with my brother in his construction business (I don't even have a girlfriend nor I am interested in one). I just like to grab my camera and shoot. People, places. I like to test different cameras in different low light conditions. Decide what lens would be better or more suitable for a particular scene. To read "Days of a camera" by Almendros, while watching Days of Heaven. To watch any movie photographed by Coutard, James Wong Howe or Storaro. See, when I talk to friend of my family about this, they look at me in a very peculiar way. Like when someone is trying to get a reasonable answer out of Sara Palin. Finally, they ask me what do I do for a living. I tell them that I bus tables. I run food as well. My boss is supportive. The manager is nice with me. I do a good job. All of that plus that I am saving to buy my Sony PMWf3. They just say: "Oh..., well... good luck".
  17. That is happening to me right now and it is quite a preoccupying situation. Getting new clients is not as a easy as a few years ago.
  18. "But other times i see things with noise that are very pleasant to watch." I think it's because the noise, in some movies, adds some sort of character to the them. In others. the noise is just a mistake. On film, the grain adds some nostalgic feeling.
