  1. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the updates so far.
  2. Ah, didn't know it was your birthday...Happy birthday! Where/What time on the 27th?
  3. I am actually moving permanently Nate. I'm shooting a feature in NM in September, then relocating to LA. I leave Orlando on the 8th of August, but I'm available anytime before then.
  4. Great updates David, and a belated Happy birthday. Looking forward to hearing about the final days.
  5. Yeah, Deakins is awesome. Seems like a really great down to earth guy.
  6. Anthony, the clip seems to me like a simple backdrop, exposed to pure white. Nothing too crazy. Soft flat lighting on the background, and then whatever setup you would like for the talent. Just make sure you aren't catching any shadows on your drop.
  7. Do you have access to big gun lights? If not, I would go with your idea about gelling the windows, and then balance for your interiors, and like David said, kill some of them to create a little depth and contrast and change out your floro's for 55's or 50's. Remember also morning sunlight is not only warm, it contains a small amount of pink/purple.
  8. Since we are on the subject of your Nikon and the RED's raw files, what are the main differences you are noticing between the two? (Assuming you are shooting RAW on your Nikon) I realize you are only using the photos as a guide, not for anything finite, but are you seeing a noticeable difference in DR? Contrast? Is it safe to trust a Nikon's image reproduction when your matching your settings to RED? From your examples here they look very similar to my eye.
  9. It certainly doesn't help their fight against digital imaging systems. Just a little more leverage against them when a project is deciding to shoot film or not.
  10. Agreed, congrats on your IATSE acceptance and wrap of your feature! It looks like I will be shooting an independent feature in Vancouver towards the end of this year, maybe we can meet up if you're still around.
  11. Thanks Bruce, we actually have a scene that takes place in the gas chamber. I'll also look into the cafe as well.
  12. I am going to add some points of advice- From a feature cinematographer standpoint, how might some of you maintain scene by scene continuity? Because this whole film is shot at 1 large location, an abandoned prison, and takes place all during the day, do you have any pointers that may help me in maintaining lighting and exposure continuity over the course of five weeks? My current plan is to use my DSLR and double my lighting photos as my exposure continuity photos. Thoughts? Additional ideas?
  13. Thanks Saul, I am actually a Colorado native, so I know all about the dry weather! We are actually shooting on the HVX+Letus Extreme, though RED would've been ideal. I have a great pair of Merrel hiking shoes that I love, great comfort and support, as well as nice Columbia Sportswear hat that is vital for me when out in the sun. I burn in minutes.
  14. We are very fortunate, on this show we will only be shooting 10 setups a day, which gives me a good amount of time to work without rushing, and keeps our schedule to solid 10 hour days. The only downside is that extends us to 6 days a week. Seems like the best way to schedule photography, for me anyways.
  15. Nate, we are actually shooting In New Mexico. Thanks however.
  16. So this fall, I will be shooting my first feature, called "A Lonely Place For Dying" and I wanted to ask all of the DP's here who have worked in the feature realm, what advice they could give from the ups and downs of their own experiences, as well as ways to stay healthy during shooting, etc. Any words are appreciated. Thank you.
  17. Sure, check this out for more on that. http://www.mldvideo.com/News+Resources/Rat...'s+ASA.html
  18. It is often times harder to rate a digital camera like an EX1 or HVX, because the sensitivity of the chips changes in different light levels. However, if you read Stephen Murphy's blog on the recent film "Calibre" which he shot on the EX1, he talks about rating the EX1 at a 500ASA. This worked for the look he was trying to recreate, but by averaged ratings, the camera comes out to be around a 320/400ASA.
  19. Go to the My Controls area, and click change my display name.
  20. Sounds like a fun project. Was most of your camera crew local? If so, did you have any non union AC's? Hope to see some stills soon!
