See, that's where a HUGE catch-22 is, I'm only 13. Most adults won't trust me with anything, so what would pocess an adult to trust me with filming equipment, considering the stereotype that most people have. It would be VERY hard to even set up a job as a PA, let alone a DP. I do have a budget worked out, it's almost finished to the exact number(thank god for Sophocles software.) 3) We will approach local businesses, as this is our first feature. We live in a VERY small town where most people know each other, if not at least they wave. We do know the owners of most businesses, like the local pizza place, the independant subway, etc. Since we ourselves are teens, we hope to get out there by making a film that is focused more on culture and away from this culture-less and artless community(I hate living here!) So that would appeal to anyone who wants to leave Sandy and to get out to the world and not be so isolated in the town. 4) ROI means Return of Investment, right. I wish I had a chance to take personal finace in middle school. What does that really mean and how would it apply to the film industry? 6) No we do not have a very well known cast, however, as I said, we live in a small town, so at least they most will know who we are(we are among the only active filmmakers in Sandy.) We have ditched the studio backing idea and have moved onto backing in general, we have learned that we won't be able to do this. We will approach people that we know. Anyway, I have to thank you all for your help on this topic especially, I don't think I could've moved on with my plans with out it. :)

I was wondering, is the Canon HV20 ultra-low budget camera any good? How much are adapters to make it more like a Stedicam? Tripod mount? Can you get an adapter to change lenses?

I am way, way, way, way to late on this one. The NC-17 rating, in today's modern and reletivley open society,(yes no matter what the parents do short of locking us up) is just simply meaningless. One fake ID for 50 dollars and you're in anyway. I only know of a few kids in any middle and higher school in my life that aren't allowed to see R rated movies. I do agree with some of the posters in that only highly intulectuall beings should be allowed to rate ANY FORM OF ART ON THE PLANET. Highly religous people should not be allowed either. No form of any religous, racist, violent, etc. bism should be allowed into rating anything. As well, in TIME recently, Hillary Clinton is pushing for an even higher rating than M, saying that M is not broad enough, mind you she pushed to come up with the M rating, and that there needs to be a ban on certain things. I know that this is video games, but the exact same principle applies. Also, whatever happened to the 1st Ammendment in this country? It has been circumvented far too many times by politicians, law-makers, and the government over all. Censorship in general is wrong and anti-freedom. Why shelter the young, so that when they do learn it is behind their parent's backs, and if they don't learn when they're kids, it will only hit them 10 times harder when they are adults! So many parent's complain about their kids turning into a horrible little monster, why not turn to the parents? Chances are that the parents tried to protect them from everything bad in the world and keep them perfect. Very, very, very concerned for freedom, Jacob.

This should clear it up. Film gets messed up from exposure and stuff(i use video.) Video gets messed up from magnets. Yes visible light is electromagnetic, not magnetic, and metal detectors are magnetic, as they do not put off energy in the form as heat, sound, light, etc. therefore they must not be electromagnetic(light) waves. That is why whenever I go through an airport I have to take care of my tapes, but film should be just fine. (7th grade is your first year of physical science... I'm 13)

Yeah, we were kind of looking for a stedicam. Our camera is really lightweight. We already know how to build a dolly, but I got mine from the Mythbusters. They had 2 peices of PCV pipe, 16 wheels with bearings, they attached 4 wheels at each corner and it could hold about 220 pounds or so. They used it to shoot a human analog through a window, and as a dolly(for the camera work :P .)

Ah, sorry. We have a budget in mind, I have it written down but I can't attach it. We do have SOME, but limited free labor, we have 2 free cameras, 2 free lights, 2 LAV mics, a boom mic, and a handheld, all thanks to certain connections from our teacher Ms. Scaife(she works at WFTV and has a degree in filmmakning and another in editing.) Since this discussion seems to have turned from Studio to just backing in general, i'm just gonna change to every type of backing. As for food for the crew and other provisions and expendables, we have almost NO money for that, we can use the editing suites for free(once again thanks to Ms. Scaife) but we have NO studio. As for #5, we have NO money except for mine and my friends TINY, TINY, TINY, bank accounts(mom and dad aren't that supportive, they want me to be a musician :P .) So in those we have about, hmm, 100.00 dollars or so... :( Once we figure it all out, we will have a quote, but we can't drive, we can't walk, we can barely talk except for MySpace and the phone(yeah, i'm young.) So do you think that we are more or less screwed and will have to 1) dump the project 2) beg for money 3) wait until we're older? I really don't wanna dump it because I worked on the script for way to long to dump it.

I was taught this: it's a type of triangle... in the top there is GOOD, in the right corner there is CHEAP, and in the left corner there is FAST. So, if it needs to be GOOD and FAST it won't be CHEAP. If it needs to be FAST and CHEAP it won't be GOOD. If it needs to be CHEAP and GOOD it won't be FAST.

We can distribute the film during the day by any means, self-selling, giving to a business for a percentage(CONTRACT) or selling to a business. We might be able to aquire help from the Mayor (she knows us well because of how much we fought for public acsess televison.) 5) It is possible for us to use the local High School and My own house, but other than that, we would have to invest time into scouting out more locations. If we can't find one I have a studio in the back-up that we can use, but it's exspensive for us $150 an hour. 6)What do you mean, the creators and actors are known around town, but we are unknown in the city (Portland.) 7) We have created a documentary before, but we have not yet taken the final cut to market. 8) The writer, director, cameraman, lighting, director, producers, DP, and Actors are only known in our town, sandy, but are unknown in Portland and other areas.

You're right, I wasn't very descriptive. We want to go for color, but it depends on pricing. If we could get sound(I don't think we will...) we would like that. We plan to finish onto DVD or MiniDV.

I was wondering: how much does an 8mm film camer WITH sound and 8mm film stock With sound cost? What would I need to show and edit it? Thanks.

My project is in need of some form of backing to get some money or resources, whether it be lighting or actual money. We need help on getting that studio backing, or any backing at all, for our project.

I was wondering how much a cheap camera and some 8mm film cost, about a 30 minute movie?

I was just sicked a huge surprise on me by friend... I have to start writing a script, so i was wondering if I could get some help on finding good FREE software. Thanks in advanced for all of the help!!
