No film on this one- im using the 5d mark 2.
-
All lenses do is project an image, you dont need to have the lens mounted physically for it to do its job. Only thing I could say Im doing different, is that the lenses I am doing this with have been modified so that I have full range of focus while letting light bleed behind the lens.
-
Thats just it, you dont mount the lens.
-
Thats exactly right. Im just letting light bleed in between the space between the mount and the lens. The lenses I am using though are allready low in contrast and prone to flare.
-
Thanks guys. Rob- I got a thing for tea & coffee... and well, beer for that matter. Im using a butchered Pentax 58mm f2.0 preset lens for most of the shooting. I do have some old single coat vivitar lenses from the t-mount days that might see some use. Hope to get some filming done next weekend.

Hey Saul, Im using a 5d mark 2- I saw that Jon Fauer called them something like digital eyemo's.
-
Thanks Bobby. I admit its pretty extreme and could be toned down a bit. I am basically just shooting with lens blocks I have extracted from vinatge lenses and allowing light to bleed, its quite hard to control at times. Im shooting on a "digital eyemo" ; )

Finally making some progress on a short film I am dp-ing/directing. Honestly, it doesn't feel quite like a "real" film as there are only two characters, Zero dollars and (most likely) no dialog but what the heck. I plan on fitting a few hours here and there over the next few months to get it done- I guess this is really just an excuse to try something new and have fun. I completed the first screen test over the weekend and I think I found the look/tone I want: Screen test link: http://vimeo.com/10532805 Some stills attached. Thanks for checking it out, I will keep posted on the (slow) progress and upload stills along the way.

I ended up selling my set for rental to a fellow in LA last year. This year, I acquired a handful that literally look as Im the first person to use them, I am getting rid of some of my extras to help pay for the others. If you want to rent a set I can refer you to a few people- I dont mess with rentals anymore though. ; )

25% of proceeds from these auctions go strait to the American Red Cross to support the relief efforts in Haiti and Chile. I have decided to sell my extra 50mm and 75mm (both t2.4) Lomo roundfront anamorphics on ebay (with PL mounts). Both lenses have: -Good smooth mechanics and glass (very tiny mark on the 75mm but nothing that effects your image) -Stainless Steel PL mounts with front and rear caps -Perfect collumation -Arri pitch focus gears They are literally ready to shoot, just slap them on your camera and go! Here is some footage I shot on these lenses: Flare tests: http://vimeo.com/9116034 RxOptical Commercial (red): http://vimeo.com/6520021 You can find the lenses here with a very low starting bid of $999 with no reserve here: SEE AUCTIONS FOR MORE PICTURES... 50mm T2.4 ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT 75mm T2.4 ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT Thanks for looking!

I was mostly a B-cam 2nd on this shoot but I operated a few days when we had lots of cameras out, our crew got thin on those days so I didnt have an assitant to dump the camera to. Lots of fun though despite the pain, maybe I can work my way up to an xl one of these days.

Just pulled a 15hr day shooting hand held with a pv gold- holy crap I don't know how you guys do it- my back is so wacked out now.

Glad to see gumby is still at it... same old crazy guy!

That is strange you were banned like that Steven. Not trying to be an butt towards reduser as I like some of the resources on there, but I think there may be a concentration of (I really dont know a nice way to say it) "cinemagraptohically-retarded" members and you could have been be hurting Red's online market as being one to question and push them towards something better- I mean isnt that one of the jobs of a cinematographer is to bitch about products that need to be improved? Reduser is a strange place though, For instance a while back someone posted a thread about a super16 test film I made and people started throwing all sorts of insults at me when they didnt even know the first thing about me and they didnt even know I was present on the forum- just because I wanted to shoot some stuff on super 16 over Red. Weird...

I just got some of my 2x lomo roundfront anamorphics on my 5d mark 2 via an oct-19/eos adapter. Really fun for the video mode because you can extract the full 4-perf anamorphic gate size from the sensor- in fact im extracting an image about 22mm tall with the 75mm, its basically like holding a lens with a camera attached to the back: Test Clips: http://vimeo.com/9116034

Thanks Pierre, Unfourtunatly P+S is targeting the rental market on this one, I dont have an extra $50k to spend on a magazine, For that price I would rather just shoot film. I agree though about the digital magazine concept, it just needs to be affordable enough to buy. Cheers. -

Some pictures... Jpegs from full aperture 2k dpx scan, kodak 7207, zeiss 11-110: (serious dynamic range!) -
Ok so now I am putting my SR3 Advanced back up for sale. I bought this camera earlier in 09' from Robert Kesslow to shoot a feature film on, they unfourtunatly ended up shooting digital so I have only used it for a few commercial + personal projects. Just recently, I had the entire movement/mechanics rebuilt to as new specs- The camera made a perfect registration test and is totally silent. Also, I just had the batteries recelled. It breaks my heart to sell it as I never thought I would be able to own an arri sr3 adv, but im not using it as much as I should, maybe your planning on getting the P+S digital magazine or you shoot more super 16 than I do? : ) I will take some fresh pictures asap, but for now the package is: SR3 Advanced kit (all in clean custom innerspace cases): Sr3 Advanced (variable shutter/ Arriglow/ 1-75fps) Cei Color 6 Video tap (the really expensive one with the little LCD built in) Wide angle eyepiece Viewfinder extention Handgrip start/stop 24v 12v onboard acc splitter module Shoulder pad 15mm Baseplate Dovetail Cables 4x P+S technic SR3 Mags (spring latch take-up style) 2x Fresh Recelled 24v On-board's with onboard adapter/ Dual Charger 2x 24v Block Batteries w/ cables (Really nice block batteries/ Innerspace case enclosed w/ chargers) I also have pin-registered 2K DPX files of recent stuff shot with the camera to remind you how amazing super 16 looks, epsecialy with vison3 250d!, The images are 100% rock solid and the camera is ready for work. Asking $14,000 obo or you could hire me to shoot your film and rent the camera? ; ) PM me here or send e-mail to hunter@hunterhrichards.com
