  1. Nice looking video! The one-joke thing wears thin by the end but I agree that the compositing was done very well. Throwing in a slightly larger variety of shots plus a few more jokes might have made this one a killer. Not a bad effort!
  2. Nice work dude. I dunno why people here are getting in a tizzy about the 5 years and shot-on-video stuff. Everyone has their own agenda and on your first project most people are doing it part time, especially for the sum you made it for, so it's gonna take longer to do. $10K is cheap as chips for a feature and I don't think anyone can even say anything negative for that fact alone. I liked the cartoon intro, and the shots don't look like video in a bad way. Whoever said "why bother shoot this on video" is a film snob and I think we're well past that era now, aren't we? Video is a great place to cut your teeth AND finish on as well. Good work, it's looking good and best of luck to you.
  3. In shooting with my own Z1, I've found that Cineframe25 does a great job without the need for filters, in terms of the so-called "video-look" problem. To be honest, I would hope that one day in the not-too-distant future, people would embrace the look of HD or HDV and not necessarily equate it with the look of film. Film-look has this overblown mystique that I can see to some degree, but not to the degree that everyone outright refuses to accept that HD looks good and unique too. Anyway, that said, I like Cineframe25 as it has a cool look to it, but I also like that there is a bit of video lurking in there too. If you want film look, shoot on film.
  4. LOL! Yeah, it's pretty funny, but the shots do look great! I've gotten quite attached to using CineFrame25 here in Australia as the look is really nice softening effect. I wouldn't say it looks 100% "filmic" but it does fall somewhere in between film and video. I wouldn't use the 24p mode in NTSC though...it sounds poor
  5. I love shooting in cineframe 25 (in Australia with PAL base) as the results look great. I imagine that on NTSC, the 60i down to 24p would be a weird translation in-camera and might not convert as nicely as the 50i to 25p, so perhaps in that case de-interlace in post is best?
  6. Hi folks, I'm travelling to India with a guy whom I will be shooting for a doco, and he happens to be bringing his own HDR-HC1 along with the HDR-Z1 that I'm shooting the doco with. Being a bit worried about security in India, I thought I should back-up my footage while there and was wondering a few things: 1. Can I simply plug the two cameras together using a 4-pin FireWire cable and dupe the stuff I've shot from the Z1 onto the HC1? 2. If I use this method, will there be any degradation of my HDV footage or is it literally just taking the information from one tape and copying it to another with no translation process? 3. Do you think that this is that the best idea for backing up my footage on-the-go? Is there a better option? (I'm not bringing a computer however) Thanks for your help!
