  1. Some really nice footage there Elliot. Love the slo-mo at the lake. Tom
  2. I tried the same thing a year ago. Where I came up short was with the clamping. Do you have any images you could show of the set up? The camera (SLR) when zoomed just so, showed the super 16 ground glass fine, but as I said......it's the clamping! Especially on a hand held shot. Thanks, Tom
  3. Well that's it. You hit em all! Sorry Hal, couldn't resist :D Tom
  4. Thanks again Guys. You given me the feedback I was looking hoping for. Re-sampling is a last resort for me.
  5. I have that lens and it does cover my ACL II super 16 with no vingetting. I've never used it with a bolex though. Tom
  6. I love this camera. So solid and a good long wind. A great value. You know James I remember fumbling with mine for about 20 minutes before I figured out how to get it to go. I brought it to a Cubs, Sox game and the youngsters (20 somethings) wanted to take pictures of it with their cell phones. The 3 lenses on the turret do look pretty cool. Have fun! Tom
  7. Thanks David. I should have mentioned it was a Super 16 film scan. Tom
  8. I'm just wondering what opinions there are regarding the above. If the output is going to be HD (1920x1080), is there really an advantage of having a true 2K scan compared to a true HD scan? I'm not talking about a spirit transfer to HD, but a scan. In my world of graphics and animation, I've always tried to avoid the re-sampling of pixels at all costs. So if the 2K scan will be scaled down slightly (and re-sampled) to be output to HD, is it worth it? Do you really gain any picture quality is such a scenario? OR perhaps people are just cropping? Thank in advance, Tom
  9. OK, well I'm going to need a pardon here as I think I've discovered the issue. While on the floor (at night), I was doing some wire swapping and was slightly distracted by the large, presumably fluorescent in the court yard of my apartment. Of course it was not completely illuminating the room, but a small splash did makes it's way to the corner of the couch!!! Thanks again for the responses and the detective work. Tom
  10. I too offer my positive thoughts and prayers. I know his family's loss must be unbearable. Hope he knows that in time his family will be OK. T
  11. 1 : fame and renown resulting from an act or achievement : prestige 2 : praise given for achievement Tom
  12. I use the A-Minima rolls in my ACL II all of the time. It's just a matter of breaking the spool (in a changing back of course) and flipping it over, compared to a 100 foot load, on the feed side. Sometimes even though I have a 400 ft., mag I like to use the 200 footer because of the reduced weight. However I've heard that some 200 ft mags don't always cooperate with the A-Minima rolls. Tom
  13. So is this a category for shooting film in 3D or one that relates more to 3D software like Maya, Softimage, 3dsmax, etc.? Or both? Just askin :)
  14. Yes this was very impressive. I was particularly impressed with the texturing, lighting, and use of depth of field to bring some camera/lens realism to it. The making of and compositing videos were interesting as well. Tom
  15. Hi George, Very interesting. Don't worry about mistakes so early on. As time goes by you'll still make them, but we just learn how to hide them better :D Also, there was some decent narrative going on for some of it. I would try to develop storytelling as you go along. As you say there are a few little things to fine tune in terms of the motion, but a great first effort. Good luck, Tom
  16. Hi Andre, Welcome. One important bit of information is what are you looking to spend? 16mm cameras have come down in price over the last couple of years so that might be a better option if you're thinking of crystal sync. Tom
  17. There was a movie in the late 90's called Affliction with Nick Nolte......good book too. Anyway, there were some flashback scenes of "Nick" when he was a young boy. It's been a while, but I'd swear it was super8. If so, this is surely the exception, but a possible example none the less. Tom
  18. Hi Gregory, I wasn't able to watch anything....I got a black screen on the standard and the HD. What codec are you using? Tom
  19. Hey Bill, Super 16 and Ultra 16 all use standard Kodak or Fuji 16mm film. Tom
  20. Hello, Need to have your real name on the forum here. Thanks in advance
  21. I used to live there a while back. I wouldn't mind sharing a pint with all of you, but it'll have to be in spirit for now. Tom
  22. If it were me, and it's not, I would take full advantage of using this time to shoot a short film for my reel. It seems like there is NEVER enough time to work on your own stuff. When one is working, it's just not going to be possible. This is time time where you can really focus on expressing yourself in this medium. I'm not saying "put a positive twist on things," there is a positive twist here! You will be "working" in one sense although you won't be getting paid, but you will be being productive. There is something constructive that you can do......this thread is almost 2 months old. As my kids say, "Let's do this!" :) Tom
  23. Hi Brad, As I'm sure you know there is a fair amount of work that goes into both video and animation as well as designing a look. So just to be clear is there any pay involved or are you looking for someone who wants to build their portfolio. Thanks, Tom
