  1. I picked up my Rex 4 factory converted to Super 16 with black preset Switar for $800 shipped! That was 4 or 5 years ago when everyone was dumping there film gear I guess. Good deals are out there, just take your time. I would look for something in good physical shape with as much accessories, and then send it off for CLA before even running a roll through it. Always search sold items on eBay for idea of current market price. There are sellers like Calkovsky who buy cheap on eBay and resell for crazy prices.

  2. Pretty sure Bernie @Super16 Inc. can do it, he's on the east coast. Also pretty sure Jean Louis can do it though he's in Montreal or Toronto, he's on the forms regularly. Then there's Pro Cam in AZ, personally haven't use him for any service. Of course you can still send your Bolex to Bolex Swiss for Super 16 conversion! I have my Rex 4 Factory Super 16! Not the cheapest option I'm afraid.

I've done  a lot of stabilisation myself in FCPX with Super8 footage I've scanned myself (with the cheap Wolverine scanner). It's pretty OK. Other video editor suites should work similarly well.

Here is a comparison (scanned and processed by me):

the stabilized, cropped, NR’ed final processed footage (also read the description!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSXQQ9wv0nk

Ruotsalainen, you transferred those films with a Wolverine?

  4. You would probably ok with just buying a new battery from the guy in Canada on eBay, but the price of film now from when I started is much more expensive. You have one of the best, most servicable cameras, just invest a bit more and you'll be good to go for awhile.

  5. Glenn Brady was kind enough to send me a photo of this rare beast the Schneider 6-180mm Variogon for the Beaulieu 6/7/9008 series of cameras. I've included part of Glenn's email below about contacting Schneider about his particular lens.

In March 2017 I contacted Schneider in Germany to learn more about the lens and got the following response: "According to the serial number your lens was produced in 1976. Unfortunately, we have no further information." Michael Lehnert, who seems knowledgeable about all things Super 8 generally, wrote of this lens in 2013, ". . . there were only a few prototypes made for the Photokina fair that dubiously found their way into private hands".
