  1. Sorry to hear that Brian. That can be very frustrating when you set your mind to a goal, start, and have to stop. Hope you get well soon so you can get back at it and push 'play'! Chris, my man boobs are vanishing and hidden pecs are appearing. Are you sure it was P90X and not a female workout routine you were doing?
  2. You don't even have to 'match' it... just come close and you will be fine. We just shot a bunch on two green screens placed together and they were very different. The Editor was there and said no worries (I was just Gaffing and renting Equip on this one). You can always take some paint chips to your local rental house... For exposure, you generally want the green screen to read (reflected) one stop under.
  3. Transylvania Film & Video and Filmtools has them (retail).
  4. In a personal PM (maybe) Order up and dive in Satsuki! It will affect much more than your ability to mount a camera... especially a plastic RED  All kidding aside, it really works!
  5. There ya go gentlemen. Charlie, I meant it takes a tremendous amount of focus and discipline to work on those shoots in almost (any) capacity... DP, Camera Op, Gaffer, Key Grip, Dolly/ Crane Grip including Food Stylist etc.... those days seemed to feel the (longest) to me. I never worked with Mr. Budin tho. They (McD's) were allowing the Stylists to add sesame seeds to the buns.. someone was doing nothing but that all day long, another did the condiments, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and onions etc... the third did all the grilling.... they then had an On Set Stylist/ Artist bringing it all together and tweaking for camera so they had four folks working on just that that all day long and into the night. Charlie just demonstrated the extremes a company will go while shooting to deliver the perfect 'actual product' shot.
  6. Stand In Scoops  Hadn't seen those. We used colored foam balls.
  7. Amen Charlie! While you are shooting one.. a dozen more are being carved, shaped, molded, sprayed, sprinkled... and on and on... going through a box or two of cones looking for that (perfect) cone... and even when finding it, trimming, shaping, sculpting, sanding, spraying and on and on..... sheeeesh, can we wrap this thing? How long can this go on? If you've been there you know  It takes a tremendous amount of focus and discipline to do that kind of work. For Micky-Ds we went thru at least 300 Buns and Patties and had three Food Stylist working NON STOP for 16 hours. Sure that is an extreme but when shooting an edible product, a product we consume, it will always help to have a Food Stylist who knows how to get it done... especially with Ice Cream.
  8. In that Ad they aren't selling 'ice cubes' are they? I believe they are selling what ever is being poured (over) the plastic ice cubes and I'd bet they poured the actual product... even if they 'enhanced' that product.
  9. I recall them using nitrogen and an assortment of many other items... all placed on/in/around to enhance the (product)... sure we manipulate/ alter (I like 'enhance')... but that involves the 'product' itself (for the most part). Generally, the producers are proud of their product and (want) it shown... even often times when they shouldn't  btw.. I have worked on McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza and numerous Wine and Beer Spots and yes... Ice Cream table top work (which is very tedious).
  10. Hire a Food Stylist and let a 'professional' show you how it's done ;). They (don't) use fake ice cream... there are also some legal issues with that approach.
  11. I just saw an ad for P90X here on our home page. Very Cool! For someone who is almost two weeks into the P90X training let me tell you, this poop works! If you are looking to get into better shape to perform better on Set... or in life in general... P90X will get you into the best shape ever. The 90 day transformation is incredible! This can help DPs, Camera Ops, Steadi-Cam Ops, Grips and Electrics tremendously! Frankly, it will help anyone and everyone who is up to the rigors (both mental and physical) of this no nonsense Program. I never worked out in my life and at 46 just started P90X and after less than two weeks into the 13 week Program I am seeing and FEELING amazing results. I HIGHLY recommend it! (no, I am not associated with P90X in any way... just a loyal customer/ user) Here it is. Check out the small SEE MORE SUCCESS STORIES link on the right just above the chart.
  12. I really liked that shot at the track with those mini racers!
  13. Scott, Per the rules of this forum, don't double post. It only wastes the members time.
  14. I have a Colortran completely overhauled sporting a Pee Wee Leveling Head and Seat.
  15. NIcely done... but I am a bit biased... I LOVE cars!... Cool cars that is
  16. Alastair 'C'.... how many times do we have to ask you to go to My Controls and change your screen name to your first ad LAST name per the rules of this forum? Take a moment and show some courtesy and follow the rules everyone else follows... <_< I wouldn't be so worried about how much dubs cost. Consider how it could cost you if you don't follow the simple rules. This is your 4th notice. You have been reported.
  17. (In the States) you can can get these Drafting Tubes at Office Depot. They are Black Plastic and telescope to different lengths to accomodate different size Gel Sheets. They also have a handy Strap to hang them by. I have 5 of these Tubes labeled CTO, CTB, DIFFUSION, +/- GREEN and PARTY. They work and 'look' great! See Here Full length Rolls travel in the Gel Rack on the back of my Electrical/ Head Cart. Noma Fabrications. I designed a sweet Electric/ Head Cart and George Noma built it. He loves it and says it will be on his site soon as he plans to build more. It is a 3 closed in carpeted shelved Cart with room on top with a Gel Rack and Black Wrap holder on the back side. * Always label each sheet of gel you cut!!!!
  18. Congratulations JD! What did you win? I'm impressed. Sincerely. (You too Hal) You guys lost me at the title of this Thread.
  19. Case in point... looks a lot easier than it actually is... naturally. Several day shoot and used the last take... take 40 of a 6 1/2 minute one-taker. Thanks Xavier!
  20. An easy way is to just cut it in half. A 100mm in 35 is a 50mm in 16. A 50mm in 35 is a 25mm in 16. A 35mm in 35 is a 16mm in 16. An 18mm in 35 is a 9.5mm in 16... and so on.
  21. Hi Serge, I did not take it that way at all. :) I just didn't want anyone to think I thought it was so fantastic! Certainly there are far more 'spectacular' spots/ shots out there. I just marvel at how smooth our work (can be) on screen... versus the often awkward and difficult mechanics we have to deal with, including Talent, to get a single shot... and when it all comes together it is seamless. Magical. We all know how they are made, We make them. But they still have power over us.... to move us.
