  1. Damn. Seems to be missing a few opportunities.
  2. Thats actually a pretty good point there Rick. Even though you are new, you see things through fresh eyes.
  3. I will re-arrange. Kubrick is ugly. Film makes dead movies.
  4. "A Limerick In Me" doesn't sound like the type of films we should be discussing here. Tsk. Tsk.
  5. Dude, you sound like a videographer. Ok, hmm lemme think... Do you think your own life is worth filming?
  6. I would love a Cinematographers Day, But apparently I am only a videographer.
  7. Amen. The term at least from my stance is the Director of Photography is just that, the Director of all that is captured with a camera. Doesnt matter what camera is used. On the recent Sprint commercials that are essentially animated digital stills that move, according to David, the DP of that shoot doesnt even fall in any type of role or title. They used digital still cameras to capture the images. So what is that person called? Does that mean there wasnt a DP on that crew? I wouldnt think so.
  8. Yeah but if you use that term, the American Society of Rodent Friends ( also known as the ASRF) will start yelling at us for demeaning their little furry snake food pals. But hamster it is, screw the ASRF.
  9. Not a big fan of Emily Rose, but it was an interesting story. Kinda cool seeing an possesion from the view point of the one who is possessed. I just re-watched Jacobs Ladder, pretty good. The shaky head guys are freaky, and the look of the film really captures NY in its gritty, claustrophobic palette pretty effectively.
  10. That is really weird about the lens in manual mode creeping down. I have never experienced anything like that on any smaller format video camera. And the attitude you received from the salesperson is disappointing. Can you post some of the images you captured fromt he camera? I am curious how it looks.
  11. A Director has to have visual sense, otherwise he would be making films for blind people. It is totally a visual medium. Whether that sense is good or not depends on that Directors talent. Some Directors have zero visual style and rely on the people they hire to do it for them. Some Directors are have a high sense of visual style, i.e. David Fincher with all his macro-dolly shots like going through the handle of a coffee cup for no other reason that it looks cool.
  12. Label them as "bad Directors" individually and avoid working with them. Bad Directors exist everywhere from the stage to the screen. Or come up with your own term like Di-suckters, or Tardicons.
  13. It doesnt matter what medium the Director is using bro, if they suck, then they suck. I am a DoP and CamOp but only shoot on HD. Does that make me a videographer? The definition from the extremely accurate Wikipedia: "Strictly speaking, a videographer is a person who works in the video medium ? recording moving images and sound on tape, disk, other electro-mechanical device, broadcasting live, or even on actual celluloid film in some cases. On a set, he or she is usually responsible for the camera, sound, and lighting. As part of a typical field production crew, videographers usually work underneath a director. However, for smaller productions (e.g. corporate and event videos), a video videographer often works alone or as part of a two or three person team of camera operators and lighting and sound technicians. Typically, videographers are distinguished from cinematographers in that they manage smaller, event scale productions (weddings, short documentaries, short fiction pieces, simple commercials, simple training videos), differing from individualized large production team members. Due to reduced budget compared to full length feature productions, videographers typically use electro-mechanical cameras while cinematographers record images on film. The advent of digital cinematography, however, has blurred this distinction." The word videographer is a term to describe a role. Not an adjective describing the quality of work.
  14. Oh man The Gate scared the crap outta me! I saw that in the theater and havent seen it since. Maybe on cable a few years ago, but I love the build up to the ending. Pretty effective film for building tension slowly with the bugs and the little monsters. Man, I havent thought about that film in years. I absolutely loved The Host from S. Korea, from a few years ago. great classic monster flick for sure To be honest, I love pretty much any horror film from the 70's and 80's, even Slumber Party Massacre and Basket Case. Even Driller Killer with the killer going around with a battery powered drill all the while wearing this ridiculously giant battery belt.
  15. Hey thanks for the info. I will contact the TES and check with them. And enjoy the awesome weather.
  16. Anyone know the color temp or what types of lights are used in Denver on surface streets and on the highway? Shooting there in March for process trailer moving car shots and wanted to know what color they will read.
  17. Planet of the Vampires eh? I thought I was the only one that has seen that. LOVE that movie. Especially their awesome motorcycle leathers/space suits. That film really creates some freaky and moody atmosphere. Cameron totally borrows alot from that flick including the bone ship and dead giants. I thought From Dusk Till Dawn was a comedy. My mistake. The Thing is one of my favorites...
  18. Dude, that is awesome. Look here for some voice clips. Found these yesterday. Its only short dialogue from the original series, but cool nonetheless. ttp://datacore.sciflicks.com/battlestar_galactica/sounds/ there's other sound files as well from other sci-fi films and shows.

  20. ok I get you and understand your position on the current creators changing of key elements from the original show. But also keep in mind, the actor who played Apollo, cant remember his name, was the one person championing this series remake (and is in the new series incidently). So if he's cool with the direction its going, blame him right? If you want to get to the specifics of the commander shooting her first officer, you really should see that mini-movie Razor. It made perfect sense for the character to do that, and was shocking to say the least from a viewers perspective. And no one disobeyed an order after that. So lemme ask you as we wonder even further from the original topic, (caution, nerds talking) what are your thoughts on the new Doctor Who? I do think the new Cylons (the robot ones, not Dean Stockwell) look like crap. I am personally getting sick of total CGI characters. It would have been cool if they did a kinda hybrid like the Faun on Pan's Labyrinth.
