  1. Being a student video/film, i always think this whenever i come across a situation. So i have to ask this. How you decide while you are shooting that you need this specific light? I mean you say lets bring a 5k HMI here. Why not some other. and does it often happen that you change your lighting setup? I guess i m not been able to ask this properly. i hope you got what i m trying to say.
  2. OK, again i am asking this: do we really need to add a kicker? I think it adds to the image. Another thing: edge light and kicker are same?
  3. uh sorry, i see the picture now.......sorry Can't i delete or edit my post??? So what i get is that if u light the subject, and in order to break the flatness a kicker would work fine. That can be motivated as well? right?
  4. I am not been able to see the picture bro. if possible please post it
  5. When was the last time you looked at the lighting and just uttered this line? Post reference if possible
  6. There is a sports program that our section do, and i do a segment which is interview of a sports person(sometimes a player, an official, a former player, a coach, board chairmen, federation chairmen etc ). Ok, its a one to one interview a host talking to the guest. I use three cameras and take the work of four i.e. put one camera on guest taking mid shot, another one taking a closeup of the guest, third one on a long taking master, which takes a mid shot of host as well. Anywayz.......well the thing is i use sony pd 150 dv cams. I usually have five 1000 watt open face tungston lights. What i am talking about is that i always get the same boring look in the final out. I try to play with the camera angles, not the usual three camera interview. Its the always the same look, cross keying setup that goes quite flat. I try to use props and other things to make in interesting, but not that impressive. What could have i done in order to make the interviews interesting. I will try to post the stills of the some of the interviews, so you guyz can take a look. Regards
  7. Can any one please explain kicker? Say for a CU, is it the splash hitting on a small area of cheak and under the eyes? Do we really need a kicker? And do we do it for character/faces only??? Please put images if any one can............i'll grateful
  8. So we can record on HD Data on Tape as well as on memory cards?
  9. Can you please explain this. this seems to be interesting.
  10. Sender! thats a good one thanks a lot bro
  11. I dont know if its the right forum to start this tthread, but i could find any general forum where i could start, so put here. Well, i am confused what are these? HDCAM....HDV????? I am a newbie here, starting out, all i heard; could be wrong; is that one can transfer HD data directly to computer via hard disks chip installed in the camera. Then what is HD CAM? Is it an option to record the HD Data while shooting on a Tape, which have some how far better quality than dv or dv cam or even beta. I will be grateful to have your inputs.
  12. That is a really helpful link... The way it tells to light a glass looks pretty simple yet awsome.
  13. yah, right thanks a lot everyone isn't it hard to get good results with dv cams?
  14. arrright so how do we control the light say we open the aperture wide open say f2.8 or may be less. Say shooting interview at outdoors, and opening aperture wide may increase the amount of light enterting. We use nets and accessories like that? Working with Sony 250p, with lens that can go say from 18 to 125mm, how to play with DOF? Do I really need some fized lens?
  15. And longer lens means a wider lens like 25 or 18 mm???
  16. Ok here is a pretty question that was confusing me since quite a time. how we can achieve shallow DOF with simple dv cams, say XL1, or the one that i am using sony dsr 250? Does DOF depend on lens, or the quality of camera? uh sound stupid. i hope u got me.
  17. One more thing, related to this... how you guyz start? I mean you reach on a location, you take a look at it, and learn the situation, how you start lighting? Do you start lighting the environment first, or do you think of the talent first?
  18. and when we say 1k light, 2k light, the "k" is kilo, right? kilo watt, its not kelvin?
  19. and when we say 1k light, 2k light, the "k" is kilo, right? kilo watt, its not kelvin?
  20. yah yah....i m confused ........thats why i asked.... and i work on dv, never used film....... but yah, you are right, i have to have a study of basic lighting.
  21. Well, here are the stills from the last five episods that i was doing. I am constantly getting the blue outline on the edges and i m not been able to get rid of it. Please take a look at these stills and suggest what could have i done? The thing is that i have this quite a tight place, and i tried to place the anchor as far as i could. But couldnt help. Now i am planning to place the anchor away and take a more close shot, may be a MCU, i dont know.
  22. hello everyone I am a newbie here actually studying video production as my majors. i thought of to post on the forums, but thought that the questions are quite of a beginners level, soooooo you know Well, everywhere i read that the color temperature for indoor is 3200 k and at outdoors its 5600 k around. What i want to know is how this color temperature affect on setting lighting mood, and how can we measure the temperature. whats the light meter for? Does it tell the temperature and calculates the appropriate settings for aperture or etc. Suppose i am at student level, i got four 1000 watt open face tungston lights for an assignment, how can i use those 4 lights and get the 3200 k temperature. i realize that its quite a strange question, or i am not been able to tell you. anywayz waiting for your reply hope you don't mind thanks
  23. yes..............i was unaware of the color...........the set person did it by his own.......and m made at him.........cant change it that early now....so have to test things on it...........
  24. yesterday we did our test shoot on chroma. unfortunately the set person made a light blue colored sheet, its reflects a lot. This reflection is creating a lot of pain, and i m not been able to kill the outline around the character(i think character is at quite a distance). i will try to test with character at more distance today, and will try to post the stills. please suggest me how can i have kill that outline? waiting
