  1. On a whim I tried re-installing Vegas, and oddly enough it worked. It's now reading 24F files as 23.98. Don't ask me to explain what was wrong before. I can't explain it.
  2. That's exactly what confused me, as the raw .m2t files originally read as 23.98 when I would check the properties (I use Media Player Classic to view just about everything).
  3. When I first started using the XH-A1 in 24F mode, the output footage would read as 23.98fps. Lately however, most editors and playback software say all my 24F footage is really 29.97fps. Any reason for the change? I haven't done anything new or out of the ordinary.
  4. I'm actually going to make a case for the HV30 here. I have the XH-A1, and it's amazing, but it also draws a lot of attention to itself. It may not be the best for 'smallish' and being taken to places like pubs. The HV30 doesn't have the plethora of manual controls the A1 has, but it makes up for it in being compact and fairly simple to use. In the right hands, it can turn out video pretty great video. That, and it costs 1/3 the price of the A1.
  5. Use the iEEE 1394 firewire port like you would with the DVX100. It's the same data stream, there will be no loss.
  6. I know I've posted here on a number of occasions in the past... thought it's been a while. Anyway, rehi. I'm an amateur (maybe one day pro) cinematographer. My weapons of choice (or necessity) are: Krasnogorsk 3 16mm Minolta XL401 super 8 Panasonic PV-GS19 Mini DV. Yeah, I know it's not a fancy, 3 CCD camera. But I do the best I can with what I've got. And this summer I should be acquiring a Canon XH-A1. Woohoo! I particularly have a love for stop motion animation, though it's been years since I've had the opportunity to do any. Hope to change that in the very near future.
  7. I know this is rarely if never discussed, but my preferred advantage of film over digital is that it's tactile. I don't need a codec or computer/VTR/disc reader to to see it. Just hold it up to light. There's no BIG advantage there, except possibly archival purposes.
