  1. I agree that what ever camera you are going to buy today is going to be outdated in about a week and a half the way its looking. I started off by shooting stills and taking a photography course. It taught me the basics of film and gave me a better understanding of what the craft really was. to this day i still use my still camera, when i go on tech scouts to locations that i might be shooting, story boarding, blocking, looking at exposures,. my still camera still a very use full tool to me. If you were looking to go in that direction, There is the Nikon D90 its a still camera that doubles as a Hd video camera. You might find it weird to shoot on an SLR photo camera, but i have a feeling this is the way digital recording is going. and i myself am thinking of upgrading to this camera. However i don't know what the workflow might be as far as post for video. also If you went this way you would still need lenses i would go with the nikon mounted Ziess which is going to run u about $500 to a grand a lens. The fact that there primes means you'll need 4 or 5.. the glass is worth it tho.. http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Pr.../25446/D90.html http://www.vimeo.com/groups/d90 The panasonic HMC150 is another good option to a low cost HD camera. It records to affordable reusable SDHC cards. An 8 gig card is $50 there calling it the new DVX, which was a great starter camera for many of first time film makers. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5759..._Camcorder.html

  3. yea thats what i was thinking but it seems like they are useing some kind of real strobe effects too
  4. I have a Shoot coming up and the director would like the same kind of strobe effects in the video as The Pussy Cat Dolls - When i Grow Up http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2...dolls&vt=lf First of all it looks like their is some kind of star filter over the lens. In the opening it looks like there using mirrors in the distance to get the effect from far away. After that it looks as if there is some Crazy Post Production star effects. 1:47 - under the car (and on the construction platform) what kind of strobe is that? It almost looks like a normal 75 watt strobe light? what kind of strobes are they using at the end of the video? Could i get the same effect from say 20 of the 30watt or 75watt strobes during the day pointed at the lens with the star filter? I have found the martin atomic 3000 watt strobe is that more along the lines of what i would need? http://www.djequipmentandlighting.com/marat30watdm.html hummm... any ideas?
  5. New video I shot in an Atlanta studio and in the streets of Boston. Masspike miles ft Rick Ross. Let me know what you think. Sorry for the poor quality. Ill try to see if i can a better version put up. http://beantothebay.blogspot.com/2008/06/m...for-single.html
  6. Hey Guys thanks for the feed back! As for your question about the Time splicing rig Mihai, the shoot was from the AZ / Styles P video The Hardest. We were given 10 grand to make the video. We all ready had a concept for light painting and using pictures then we came across a video clip from a group called pips lab. http://www.pipslab.nl/graf/ We were inspired to say the least we were about to rent 24 canon SLR cameras with 24 shutter release cables and blow like 4 grand for one shoot. When i came across these babies. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/...l=2&id=1268 The only 280 dollar consumer camera (that i know of) with shutter release cables giving us the ability to utilize its open shutter capability and use a flash sync method. I had a hard time tracking them down they were discontinued or on back order we had to get them shipped from florida at the time. The only thing stopping us from freezing time was something to fire all the cameras at once so me and the director met up with the Graffiti Research lab http://graffitiresearchlab.com/ we built a time splicing rig for under 7 grand The Ghetto Matrix http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Ent...IY-Bullet-Time/ Which we still own today if Any one is interested... hint hint. here a link to The Hardest video http://videos.onsmash.com/v/4jylXUGElxGgycqg We also used the ghetto matrix in the Prodigy video The Life we just made a smaller more portable rig and use it the oppsite way to get all of the videos 360 landscapes and a straight line rig for the the funky looking multipal exposure dolly. Also we used a program i believe named twixter to get the effect. Heres a link to The Life video. http://videos.onsmash.com/v/pifCKy5MjST31qBc Any way we came up with a few ideas on how to improve on it like using some photo stitching software and were ready to do some test with it. Ill keep you posted. Also if any one has any ideas or Comments be happy to here them.

  11. http://www.hotlights.com/ Hot Lights is a good place for small packages like what you described. The best thing about Hot Lights is that theirs no insurance necessary just a credit card which is good in small rental situations
