  1. No thought to whether or not 1700w is good? Maybe changing something around? Just wanna know what would be the best possibility here.
  2. If you buy a PC, especially the Intel Core 2 Duo, you'll have the ability to run Leopard. I haven't read a lot into Macs running Vista, Xp, but from my experience, I can run Leopard flawlessly on my PC. Just use a portable HDD for your Leopard OS, buy the liscense, and you'll have best of both worlds. Save the cost of buying a MAC and get a laptop/PC that can do both.
  3. Any thought if the lights I linked to are an okay setup....not going by brand, but the output? 1700w enough? Primarily shooting narrative on DV, no interviews.. Anything else recommended or changed?
  4. Well, I searched through the archives and a lot of people suggested going there. Britek has always gotten 50/50 results. Of course you get what you pay for deal, and most consider it entry level.
  5. Alright. Well, I guess that'll settle it. I'd email them, but they're salesman. They'll say, get the more expensive light for higher watts. So, that's out of the way, I'll ask this. I'm not asking about lights themselves, I know they aren't Arri or Lowel, but the light output, is that adequate? 1700w total. http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G200 W/ softbox http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-250/300W http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-600W 2 x http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=650Wlight thanks, -Rh
  6. Yeah, im poooo, so I've gotta get some cheap lights. I read ya. I was thinking of only putting 400w in it, possibly pushing 500. Thanks for your input though. Calling out to anyone who's owned these lights. If you know, please let me know.
  7. Where were those specs? I didn't find anything other than it could use 2 different bulbs 300w and 250w. Nothing about max. The lights seem so similar from each other, it just seemed like they were selling different heads at different prices and slapping a different watt bulb in each one and changing the price.
  8. Is it possible to stick a 500w bulb in here? http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-250/300W
  9. Macs as faggot machines That was the quote of the day. I'm not a fan boy of either machine. Or OS. I believe it's completely and utterly user based. I work with both. 40hrs a week with a Mac about 40hours a week at home with a PC. I see no difference in either of them. Am I dumb? Maybe. I don't have sixth sense to tell the difference between the two. But from where I see it, they both run applications, they same way. Is one faster than the other, that's totally dependent on your configuration. So, yes, this is a relative debate. It goes nowhere.
  10. Oh yeah. Mac OS X has had 6major releases, but one was a free update to users who had an earlier version. So that's 5. Not including OS 7, 8 and 9. Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, Xp, Vista. So it's fair to say each OS has had as many releases as the other.
  11. Ah, such a relative debate. This thread turned into exactly what every thread turns into when you mention something vs something. I digress. Thanks for proving my point about Windows being essentially a hobbyist's systems. I am sure you can outgun an out-of-the-box Aston Martin DB9 with a nitro'd & tuned-up Dodge Neon, with both costing the same in the end, but that is exactly showcasing the philosophical and technological difference between the two platforms. Thanks, for making a really dumb assumption. My box cost $400.00 and my niece helped put it together. She can install a printer too.
  12. Anyone interested in a trading something for a Glidecam 4000? I have it sitting around and I don't use it. I'd rather hire someone with one to get a steady shot. It was used 2times and that's it. Missing one screw, but it doesn't affect the balance any. I can also get it replaced. Lots of weights and extra bolts w/it. Mainly looking for a decent Tripod. Maybe lights or mics...just let me know what you have. all the best, -Rich H.
  13. It's not going to be much longer....they've got viruses for Macs now...it's all a matter of time before the same poop happens to that OS.
  14. Wouldn't let me edit my post. I'm not sure the part was exaggeration, but if you could seriously sell an 10year old mac for $800.00 I'd sell my PC right now.
  15. laugh, there isn't a difference in Mac and PC now that they both use Intel'....it all has come down to better OS. I work with Macs all day long editing photo's and editing video. I come home and still turn to Windows for all my applications. If you use Windows strictly for business, no surfing web pages for naughty time, no d/ling programs you aren't sure of, you're machine will behave as it was meant to. Macs win there. They have a strict OS not allowing for malicious programs to be installed. I believe they are completely equal. To the guy who stated his PC froze twice when making a project, well, I'm sure back then, using a relatively old Windows, that poop happened. I've had Macs spinning color wheel of death lots of time on older Macs and had to restart. It's just how computers work. I haven't had my Windows freeze yet since getting my new box. There is NO better machine. It's user preference. I have a PC I built and when I have it running Leopard, it kills what Macbook pro would run at using Xbench. Literally, I'm not bullshitting. I wasn't subjected to what Mac wanted to put in the box. If Linux had it's own box and more support, that would be the better OS. I can't doubt you have a Mac boot up in 15secs, but I've never seen one do that before. Windows does have a tendency to load up resources that are completely unnecessary. I'm using a modified XP created by users and it doesn't take longer than 45seconds to boot.
  16. Absolutely Phil, thats' why.....shhh don't tell Steve Jobs, I have a hackintosh. I don't want this to be a PCvsMAC thread, but I really like the ability to upgrade my parts on a PC
  17. I'm not sure how you feel about legality, but, since Macs are ran off of Intel cpu's you can easily install Leopard on your PC and run all the mac programs without having to go out and buy a really expensive MAC. Dual boot and you can have best of both worlds.
  18. Awesome. We'll have to set something up here soon. I'll have it ready by end of month for usure What's the thread size for fxi1?
  19. Hey Fla's. Anyone here have an HD cam? I have a 35mm adapter I made and want to test it on HD to see if it looks good. I only have a DVX.
  20. My friend just finished a screenplay today for a short film we're going shoot soon enough. I say soon enough, because pre-post is still underway. We're almost certain we have a location for the short. It's all in one small house and shot at night. The location is probable because it's a family members old house that's never used. Just have to get the clear. We're shooting it for practice, but going to maybe do something with it later. Going to be on DVXB, only camera we own. It's possible that we're going to make it where it's a 2-3 part series because of the "situation" all the characters are in. If you want to be a part of it let me know. I'm not sure who's going to direct/light it, either me or the writer. We trade off. Sound, grip and whatever else you want to be a part of would be great. Always a plus to have Floridians lend a helping hand. We'll just make this the Fla thread
  21. Anyone want to setup a meeting for the Floridians sometime in June? Something central for all of us? My roommate is an excellent writer and I do a lot of editing and have some okay equipment. Mainly for indie's. We have 2 shorts written and ready to be filmed. He's currently writing a feature after writing four already. I'd be more than glad to help scout out locations and snap a few. anybody interested in networking to make films here's my email. f1lm3r@gmail.com
  22. Aloha fellow Floridian. Love to network with people in CFla. What part? I'm Ocala/Gainesville.
  23. I'm debating whether or not to use scene settings in my camera. DVX/HVX. Would it be safer to use the default and color correct later or use scene settings in the camera and possibly feel like you might be stuck. I, however, prefer to have the look when I'm shooting but a debate came up between me and my friend and he argues that you shouldn't. What's your opinion.
  24. What would be a good approach to get a shot like this. There's a scene that requires a character to stand in front of a storm as it approaches. Probably right at dusk. Of course it wouldn't actually be safe by having some talent actually standing in front of a thunder storm, so my guess would be Green Screen/Blue Screen. I've never worked with it before and don't really know the proper lighting for one. I'm guessing you would film the talent in front of a green screen and post the thunder storm rolling in. Would you put the talent in the same location as the storm just film it at two different times? One with storm-talent not there...Same shot same place talent there, no storm and mix the two? I'm really lost on how to achieve this shot. Much guidance would be appreciated. Here's pic for reference.
