  1. Hi: I just acquired a 35mm f1.8 T2.0 and a 50mm F1.2 T1.4 Canon lens for a song ($400 with shipping). These are in BNCR mount with geared rings incorporated to the focusing mount. They do not say K-35. The serial numbers are 35mm: 12468 50mm: 17078. Both say Canon Camera Co. Japan and CANON LENS on the ring around the front element (which are both sunk well down from the front edge of the aperture mount. I am trying to identify these. Any clue as to where I might find archival info from Canon. Or perhaps my description and pics will strike a bell. Thanks
  2. The MSDS only lists the hazardous chemicals, it doesn't list the "inert" ingredients. Here is a link to some information that compares dustoff type aerosols to Powerclean CO2 (yes, it is marketing material, and no, I have no affiliation with either company. http://www.micro-tools.com/store/item_deta...temCode=54100-F
  3. Hi: I have just acquired my first Zeiss lens. I am evaluating it before I can confirm the sale with the seller. I am shocked at how small the lens is. I am worried that it may be a 16mm rather than a 35mm format lens, but I have no way of telling and no experience with Zeiss/Arri. Is there a quick way to identify the lens, say by its serial number (6169001) or by its dimensions (front of lens body is 2.25 inches, overall length is 2 9/16 inches). It is a 24mm T* Distagon f 2.0 T2.1 lens that with an Arri standard mount. The aperture is T2.1 to 16. The focusing scale is marked from .35 meters to 6 meters, then infinity. It says Made in West Germany on the barrel. I have read that some Arri lenses were modified with narrower barrels and were for close focus. Is this one of those? I am also concerned that the aperture ring clicks on the stops (like a still lens) rather than the smooth continous movement of cinema lenses. Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. OK, so I have two absolutely beautiful PL mount LOMO lenses: 200mm f2.8 OKC1-200-1 and 300mm f4.0 OKC1-300-1. Both are 1987 lenses. The problem is, I want to swap it back to an OCT-19 mount. Is this something that I can do myself, say by using a OCT mount from a junker LOMO lens or by buying a mount from somebody? I ask because some LOMO lenses can be converted from OCT19 to PL at home with a simple adapter (i.e., from www.spbsale.com). If not, who can do this conversion and what are the expected costs? If it matters, I am not concerned with FFD as the mount has backfocus adjustment. Thanks
  5. The Dustoff type of canned air contains many oils and other contaminants that can affect the lens. Try compressed CO2. It is free of contaminants and has a higher pressure so it blows off the dust more easily. I use the Powerclean system. A little more of an investment than Dustoff, but quality is always costs more.
  6. I may be mistaken, but I thought that the Kinor lenses had the continous focus gear rings suitable for follow focus systems, whereas the Konvas lenses had the scalloped focus rings (where the "scallops" were where your fingers were placed to rotate the lens by hand).
  7. Hi: I am looking for a good lens tech that has experience with Russian OCT19 mount lenses. I am in the Washington DC area and would prefer someone local. Barring that, someone in the US, and finally, overseas. This is basically being driven by concerns over the costs of shipping, insurance, time, Customs, insurance, and all the other problems that can occur with shipping out a large lens kit for service. I'd also appreciate any guidance on the range of prices for CLAing of these lenses (cleaning, lubrication, adjustment). I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi: its funny, the local DC film support group touts DC as the 3rd largest filmmaking community in the US (after LA and NY). So are there any reputable lens techs in the DC area that can service my lenses? And if it makes any difference, I have LOMO and B&L Super Baltars. Thanks
  9. Hi: I am a newbie so this is probably a dumb question, but does a resource exist which will tell me what lenses, capture device was used in a particular film? Similar to IMDB, but for technical specs. So many times I watch a film and like the "look" but I have to hope that the DP has given a subsequent interview and happens to describe which camera/lenses he used. And that only works for recent high profile films. Thanks
  10. Ha! I am actually interested in acquiring a complete set. I have the 25mm Super Baltar. Does anybody have clean Super Baltars that they are interested in parting with? Thanks and cheers
