  1. Hey guys thanks a lot for the advice. Sadly, the apartment I moved into is a little too small for me to do anything with protools yet, but on the plus side this will give me some more time to think it over! Thanks again, mike
  2. I have recently graduated, and am looking for a job in NYC for post production sound. I am looking to purchase my own basic protools setup for my apt so I can work on short student work on the side, or mix shorts that my graduated friends plan to make. I am looking for a good pair of not only monitoring headphones for a basic stereo mix in protools, but also a good pair to use on the everyday basis listening to music on iTunes and watching movies on my computer. I am trying to decide between the HD650's and the HD600s. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Mike
  3. When you transfer to DV, you are going from true 24fps to (30) fps. The problem is that the 30 is actually only 29.97 fps. If you want to sync it directly in something like final cut, without touching the picture, you want to slow down the audio by -0.1%. That will make your audio and video match, then just go by the clapboard. Mike
  4. Hey everyone, I am about to graduate and I plan on moving to LA during the summer. I enjoy working with protools and am comfortable with the program. I have been using it now for almost a year on school projects. My goal is to work in post production sound professionally, and recently I have been thinking about becoming certified as a protools operator or expert, in hopes that it may help me get a better job quicker once I graduate. For all the professionals on this site, I was wondering what your thoughts were on this. Would this be beneficial for a student to do right out of college or more a waste of money? How much water does "Protools Operator" on a resume' hold in Los Angeles? Also, how difficult is it to break into the are of sound design on feature length films? Thanks a lot, Mike
