  1. If only we had palm trees and sun! Figured it was a nicer backdrop than a dull sitting room, the wonders of this technological age :P
  2. Your advice is heeded & appreciated sir, but I prefer the production budget to pay for the processing than me. In any case the director was in favour of "going crazy" as he said himself so we'll see how it turns out in a few weeks. Thanks. BTW, rated at 32, under daylight w/81ef
  3. I realize there's a plethora of topics regarding expired film but my main reason for posting is that I have a spool of 8521 I was going to shoot with Monday along with some fresh stock for a 'dream sequence' that us students are so fond of. Given that I can't establish it's age [only know it's an 80s stock] or whether it was stored properly, I was wondering if anyone could date it for me. Seems like 2-stops over-exposure would be the minimum. Thanks, Colum.
  4. When I shot my 1st Super-8 about a year ago I noticed something similar. I figured that because the camera wasn't crystal-synced (& few Super-8 cameras are from my understanding) the frame rate was simply inconsistent and the action seemed to happen at inconsistant speeds after being transferred at 25fps.
  5. I finally opened up the K3 and looked at the cogs and the spring mechanism - they were free. When I took off the piece that covers the inner workings (which includes the claws that stop the spring from winding back) the spring released it's tension - but the problem still remains - The trigger doesn't do anything, but I was unable to see 1) how it worked at all and 2) if anything was wrong. It's very strange.
  6. Thanks for the reply Olex. I will look at the cogs and see if they are jammed before I try to take away the front panel. Thanks very much. - Colum.
  7. A friend bought a Super-16 converted K3 a few weeks ago and he wound it up without a load in - the only thing he succeeded in doing it seems is jamming the spring and now it won't release when the button is pressed. I've taken it on myself to try to repair the camera. I've found a website [here] that seems to suggest that disassembling the front assembly and "gently knocking on the gears" may solve the problems. I feel I should ask if anyone had any similar experiences with the k3 before I go fiddling. I've also noticed that nothing happens in the mag chamber when the trigger is pressed. If we had money we'd send the camera to someone like Lee Bosher, but since it only cost €200 in the 1st place it seems a tad excessive. Thanks. - Colum.
  8. I've gone with a lapel mic into one channel and a standard rifle mic into the second channel before and it generally works ok (by my standards, which perhaps aren't as refined as a a sounds guys'). If I had a choice I'd go through a mixer like an SQN and set the attenuator to the lower setting just in case the interviewee decides to yelp or whatnot. Using the status check button the back of the Z1 and a set of headphones will let you set your levels. If memory serves the "Channel 1, Channel 2" option gives you more freedom in the edit. - Colum.
