  1. excellent work, need to get me one of these d90's !!!! and thats coming from a hardcore film guy! :D
  2. Im quite young (25) so the police were not really one of the bands I listened to growing up, don't know too much from them other than the most famous numbers - but this dvd sounds amazing. I wonder if its available to rent anywhere, dont really have the cash to buy it but I will look around thanks for the heads up! :)
  3. hi again, just wanted to respond in case anyone else has this camera or a similar question the slo-mo auto compensation does not work in manual mode, you have to be quick with your hands and reset the aperture manually as soon as you hit the slo-mo trigger. You can figure this out if you know the shutter angle of your camera. Your hands will never be as fast or precise as the auto function therefore you will see a brief exposure change in your final product, but it actually turned out looking pretty cool for me!
  4. Hi so I have got a camera with the diopter control that doesnt seem to change anything when I spin it, and its in the wrong position. Do I have any options here? it is a split image focusing system so I am assuming that I can trust the split image coming together right. all I can think of now is going to the salvation army and finding a pair of 99 cent glasses that happen to be the right prescription for the current diopter setting, and just wearing those while using this camera? basing it off when the split image comes together as being my correct focus... any other ideas ? :)
  5. my apologies if this sounds too blunt and direct, but I am assuming you would like a straight answer - so I will say... film is like any other creative venture - if your really good, you will make it. and when you make it in this game and have the right business sense you'll probably have a pretty sweet pad and get behind the wheel of something foreign everyday, date models, eat at fancy restaurants and hang out at cool parties - maybe have a little drug/alcohol situation, go a couple of months without shaving your beard - but generally feel pretty satisfied with life. if your not one of the super talented prodigies - you will probably end up specializing in some component of the film making process as mentioned above, which is certainly a respectable way to make a living - but could be a bit dissapointing if one set out with unrealistically big dreams, as also mentioned above. So in order to really decide, the best is to make the most honest appraisal, how good do you think he is ? what kind of potential does he already show ? does he appear to have a "natural ability" - that is very important - as in my experience people in the creative fields seem to have a knack for what they do even before the schooling... hope this helps :)
  6. yes absolutely everyone is over 18. we don't have that law actually (the record keeping) in Canada but I suppose I would have to keep the appropriate records if it were to be sent to a US lab for processing? In any case, that is no problem so its not a concern. I suppose I will just call a few pro labs in the US ? I've had a bad experience at a lab locally where an employee threatened to sue the lab because they weren't expecting to see something of that nature - anyways it was unpleasant situation to say the least... so I figured it would be better to ask if anyone had experience with this.... thanks for the info :)
  7. Hi there, I have got a Chinon Pacific 38, very cool camera with the 48 fps slow motion thumb trigger located right beside the regular trigger. My question is, if I am shooting 24 fps in manual exposure mode will the camera still remember to compensate the aperture so my exposure doesnt change when I engage the slowmo trigger, or will I have to be really quick with the manual adjustment ? The manual for the camera states it will auto adjust but doesn't indicate whether it will auto adjust only in auto mode. any experience with this camera ? any guesses ? thanks!
  8. Hi there, I am just wondering if anyone knows of any labs that don't mind processing/transferring film that has erotic content. I'm not talking about a nude scene I am pretty much talking about hardcore xxx level content and other graphic content. This is by no means a porn film, but it does contain very explicit scenes. I know a lot of film labs locally where I send my still photography film won't do this kind of work so I am wondering if anyone knows where I could send some super 8 film like this ? thanks!
  9. thanks, I'm def gonna take some books out my university's library asap - hopefully they have that one the reason I ask though, is because the values written on my camera are - auto between 25/40 and 400/640 ASA (daylight/tungsten) I was under the impression, like one of the respondents that colour tone of the film shouldn't affect the ASA, so what does this mean? From a keep it simple stupid perspective I am assuming that if my camera says it'll do between 40 and 640 tungsten, it will work with 500T but its just so confusing that I'm trying to make sure there's nothing I am missing.
  10. Hi, I am just wondering if a camera that meters between 25 and 400 will meter a 500T film correctly, I think the number 25 to 400 are daylight values, which means a 500 tungsten value should be below 400 daylight value - but I don't know if I am correct so I guess I am asking here :) your answers are much appreciated :) btw anyone have any opinions on the best stock to go with, I am thinking the kodak 5219 Pro 8mm repackaged film, whatever they call it. It is mostly for existing light shooting outdoors at night and as well as for indoor low light shooting w/ soft lighting and coloured gels. camera is a chinon pacifica 38 w/ 1.7 lens and im not sure of the shutter degree... thanks so much
  11. thanks for the tips, I will be shooting my short with what I hope is a somewhat respectable camera (Chinon 506 sml xl with max8 wide gate modification) but I was just suggesting that if I wanted to get that overexposed frame look, I might take a shot or two with a crappier cam.. that is of course, if those are the source of the "effect" but now that I've learned more I guess I will just time my shots where I want that effect to start att he beginning of film rolls, spinoff question - If I take a film roll out while its only half used, amI gonna get a total white spot on that frame? obviously... right? but will that slighlty bleed to the other frames... as in if I just open the door to the cam for a few seconds will it just bleed a bit in both directions ?
  12. thanks guys, to combat the timing problem as best I can I was actually going to have someone adjust the speed of the strobe firing via a small knob on the back of the strobe itself, its actually just a 5$ play-thing from the 80's so it def. wont be plugging into any timing devices, guess ill just have to hope for the best thanks for all the help :)
  13. i see, so if I wanted to do this on purpose, get a crappy old super 8 from someones basement and do those shots with that right? ;)
  14. thanks for the help :) if I were to overexpose to be on the safe side, what would that be 1/3 stop or 1/2 ish? Im assuming going a full stop is too much ?
  15. one "effect" if I can call it that, that i often see on super 8 films is like a flash of light at the beginning of a scene, how is this acheived ? I'm not really sure how else to describe it, but I think you will understand what I am talking about ? thanks - Craig
