  1. Thanks Lee. So if I want to attempt any type of follow focus I will have to put the money out for an Iscorama or Lomo round front? Are there any other anamorphs that will allow you to follow focus like this that can easily be adapted to the 7d or mounted onto a Nikon prime? Any suggestions would be welcome with whatever details you can add.
  2. Thanks Ziryab The Sankor 16c that I have should be the same as the Kowa but I may pick up a Kowa since you recommend the sharpness and quality of the lens. You have confirmed my understanding that the smaller the Ap the cleaner the image. The Sankor 16c that I have has spots in the coating on the front and back elements and alot of play in the focusing ring. So I will either have it serviced or just buy a lens in better condition such as a Kowa which you recommend. Will all focusing be done with the anamorphic lens while the lens it is mounted on stays stationary focused on the back element of the anamorhic?
  3. Hi Guys Happy holiday. I just bought a Sankor 16c and adapter to use with my Nikkor primes and Canon 7D. My primes include 28mm,35mm,50mm,105mm, 135mm and a 35 to 105mm zoom. What would be the best lenses to use with the Sankor? Also, if I am correct, all focusing will be done with the anamorphic once the back focus is set on the Nikkor. With this setup I imagine that the fstop will have no effect on the depth of field of the subject but only on the sharpness of the image captured through the anamorphic, is this correct? I have read that wider apertures will introduce vignetting and other image problems, are these the only effects that varying the aperture will have and is it better to use the smallest ap possible?
  4. Hey Chris, thanks for clearing that up. I don't come here often and when I searched this question it brought me here and I remembered my password and logged in. So unless the shot calls for a moving field of focus there is no visible difference between a $150 and a $1500 lens.
  5. Hi Guys I'm not a regular here but I would like you opinions about this subject. I think that you have gotten a little lost in the details of this question and have not really answered it. I have a 7D that I use in low light shots and when I don't wish to put the Redrock on my XH-A1. Now I have seen used PL mount lenses for as low as $1000 a piece. I could afford a couple of these and an adapter. The question is will the quality gained by using these type lenses be noticable in the finished product. Simple as that. Not "why would you put a $10000 lens on a $2000 camera". Well, as I said you can find a used $1000-1500 ARRI if you already have the $2000 camera, but is it going to give you a noticable difference in the clarity of your shots or not? Simple as the question can be asked.
  6. Important!!!!! If you do go on ebay for one of these, do not be scared away by a description mentioning a loose onboard microphone. After researching this I found that it is normally supposed to be loose and have movement as this feature is a sort of vibration or "shock absorber" for the onboard mic. A lot of descriptions on ebay mentioned this and I feel that I got this camera at a lower price because shoppers and owners were not aware that this is normal. I also feel that the onboard microphone has excellent quality. I also thought the same of the mic on the Xl1s. Some people may disagree but I always have been able to get a good sound out of the mics from all of my Canon cameras. If you have an extra person and a boom Mic you can plug it in the Xh-A1 but if not the onboard does a good job.
  7. 3 months ago I bought one from ebay for $2300.00 which included the Canon wide angle lens attachment. I sold my 2 Canon Xl1s cameras to get it and it was well worth it. When looking at the youtube demo, you have to remember that most of the images coming directly out of the camera will not look like this. The camera is awsome and has many features that I will never use. but there is still a small amount of grain in low light. But most of it can be removed using Color Curves in Premiere Pro or After Effects by crushing the blacks a little bit. I also use a firestore FS-4HD instead of tape which records files in M2T format which will not play in windows until it is converted. If you capture video to the computer by playing tape through the camera I have found that the files must be deinterlaced once they are loaded in the computer.. I am so happy with the quality of this camera and it is essentially the same as the more expensive XL-H1 models without the ability to change lenses as well as the ability to output in some more professional editing systems. Inside the camera it is basically the same as its eight or nine thousand dollar big brother XL-H1. So, it is a steal. I got the Firestore FS-4HD on ebay for $400 and it was well worth it and it records up to 3hrs of HD files, which I have never even com close to using up before downloading them to the computer. With the camera and the Firestore for under $2800 it was an incredible deal and I love both Items.
