  1. Hi! Can anyone tell me the difference between Narrative Short vs. Experimental Short? When submittting a short film to some festivals, they make a distinction here that I'm not familiar with. I know "narrative vs. documentary" , but this one I need help understanding. Thanks!
  2. Also, it looks like someone posted on Feb.1 that they are selling an XL1S.

    XL2 24p Mode"

It looks great-- I have very little experience with the XL2 and just by using these modes I got great results-- without even using any filters or anything.
  4. This might sound obvious, but did you make sure that you pushed in the "inner" tape compartment before closing the outer one? If you put the tape in and then only close the outer compartment cover, then it can't recognize the tape.
  5. Affirmative action? I don't think anyone's pushing that. I believe MJ misspoke when she referred to it. After all, we're just talking about making sure everyone has an equal shot, not artificially forcing people to hire more people of a certain sex or race, just to even out the numbers. I think most rational people would agree that there's plenty of evil at both ends of the spectrum.
  6. You don't seem to understand that all we're really saying here, Frank, is that the best person should get the job, regardless of race or sex. No-one's talking about charity. Look, many women will continue to choose to stay at home with their kids, and I think that's great because more kids need their parents (mom or dad) to stay at home. And let's face it, women are better at raising kids than men are. Because of this, there will never be as many women as there are men in the workplace. It doesn't mean that they aren't as capable, Frank. It just means they have more important things to be doing. God knows we need better parenting in this country. BUT- for those women who choose to be a part of our field of work, YES- they are now competition, so that just means that everyone has to be that much better in order to compete in a growing pond. Bring it on!
  7. Thank you all so much, this was all very helpful!!
  8. That's true. What he said was that he wanted a DP with a "woman's touch." There are indeed many men who are much more in touch with their womanhood than some women.
  9. Amazing. Well, I think you actually may have nailed it. (except for the kicking arse part) Truly, they should have saved all the money they spent on their inferior "effects" and just left the camera on the actors-- the only real talent in the whole production.
  10. I have met one who I hear is excellent; her name is Laura Beth Love. She's working on "Return of Pink 5", and I've heard nothing but good things. I'll alert her about this post and we can see if she responds.
  11. Hi! I'm in post production for a 35mm short film, and I will be wanting to telecine the final cut, in order to make DVD's for film festival submissions. I understand that IP's are more expensive to make than low-contrast prints, and that both are regularly used for the purposes of telecine. I need to choose between the two. What I'm wondering is this: Is the IP better quality for the telecine, even a little bit? Is there ANY advantage to making the IP over a low contrast print, given that I have no other need for an IP? I will probably only EVER make 2 or 3 answer prints, so I wouldn't need it for reasons of wear and tear on the original. It would seem then, that I should just make a low-contrast print. But if there's ANY quality advantage to the IP, I'd strongly consider it. I would really appreciate any and all accounts of experience on this matter! Thank you! -DD
