  1. you must this you must that... sounds like a letter from a dictator
  2. maybe a silhouette of the person sitting on the bed, not too dark, make sure the ambience is high enough to see detail but again it depends on the story
  3. Hi Peter, So you have tested Zeiss CP2's with PL mount on a 7D using that adapter and it worked, correct?
  4. http://www.cinematographerstyle.com/ The truth is out there...
  5. Hey guys, I bought myself a set of Zeiss CP2's with PL mount, but i'd like to use them on my 7D aswell. I've found a company that makes adapters from PL to EF, but i also heard not all PL lenses will work with an adapter, something to do with the distance between mount and sensor... Does anyone have experience with this? Artyom
  6. that is actually a plastic bottle with yellow gel in it :)
  7. Hello hello my fellow filmmakers... A few days ago i was dealing with the following 'problem' Lighting a packshot of a glass perfume bottle.. the perfume and glass are so transparant that its almost impossible to make it visible, it absorbs any background color, ive tried different things like making a hole in the table to throw some light under the bottle but no effect... i guess it's just the way it is? See the shot below
  8. i did it recently on the actress's face with a small aquarium
  9. Yes, i was thinking about the CP2 aswell, or the Panchro's, but theyre twice the price... guess im gonna test each one of them, will post some results soon
  10. wow... pretty cool, looks like no more gel filters in future dont have that much experience with leds cant tell
  11. Hola guys.. I'm thinking to make an investment in some good glass and wanted to hear your taste, so here it goes: What are your favourite lenses and why?
  12. It's not only the color, it's also the quality of the light, it kinda gives this 'flat chemical plastic'/unreal flesh effect.. like DSLR's same goes for kinoflo's yes, but then purple instead of green... hallelujah to tungsten!
  13. i'd try it with an aquarium, put the camera under it looking up, while the actress puts her face in water, hang black cloth as background and light from under the aquarium, you shouldnt see water reflection cuz the source comes from the camera's side/axis.. unless ur gonna give her a rimlight (try polar?)
  14. Hey there everybody... For some reason i find skintones look like green plastic when lit with HMI's.. because of this ive decided not to use HMI's anymore to light faces. But if you do, how do you handle it? Thanks !
  15. I often hear news cameramen talk about HD lenses... whats that, a lens that scans 1080 lines? Optics is just optics to me, or did i miss something?
  16. Hey guys, Imagine this situation... Two people are facing each other and having a conversation. You need to cover the conversation from over the shoulder in both directions. Now, when you film from person A to person B, you have a nice rimlight on person B, which is the sunlight. You bounce a little soft light back on B and voila - you have a nice picture. But here comes the problem.. when you cover the other person, from person B to person A, the sunlight goes straight into A's face and gives you a flat ugly image. When you cut the shots together, it feels something is wrong, the contrast ratio is suddenly different... How do you guys deal with this? (If at all.. i call it a problem because i don't like it) Thanks in advance Artyom PS i had a similar situation a week ago, but the shoot was inside, so i just put a flag right under the ceiling to cut off the light from the top and give it a sense that there's a window behind the camera see stills
  17. Comment my work pls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cVbaMEol0w&feature=channel_video_title Artyom Zakharenko
  18. Hey guys I just can't figure out how to set the color temp. on the AF101... anybody experienced with this camera? Thnx Artyom
  19. Funny to see the different namings for the job title in different languages. In Russia the word cinematographer (kinomatograf) is a general word for 'filmmaker', a DP is usually called a 'kino operator' which is a straight translation for ''movie operator''. David, what job title do you prefer?
  20. In Cinematographer Style Vittorio Storaro says: ''im a cinematographer, not a director of photography''... does anybody know why he was trying to emphasise that?
  21. Hi all im trying to find a minolta spotmeter but can't find one on the internet filmtools nor bnh sells them anybody suggestions? thanks!
  22. Hi all You probably all know the rolling shutter issue with CMOS sensors... So here's the thing.. Im shooting a club scene (like the Blade's opening rave scene) and i want to have a strobe light effect on screen, now, i know that if i'll use a strobe light they use in clubs, i'll get flickering light stripes jumping up and down all over the image... My question is: Is anyone familiar with this problem and if so what's the best way to handle it? Is there a way i can get the same light effect but without stripes? Shot to be made on RED, 120fps (120fps because i want it to be slow motion) Thanks!! :)
  23. It's allright Deniz :) i don't own the thread, goodluck with ur shoot David, thanks for your advice,i think i'll use the smoke mashines anyway and try to spread it evenly, that's what we did at the MR stage i remember happy new year everyone! artyom
  24. Hey everyone, Im shooting a scene next week in a bar. I'd like to add some smoke to the scene to see the spotlights falling on the tables. Now i could use smoke mashines, but that smoke disappears pretty fast. I've heard there are better/other types of smoke that stays a little longer in the air, does anyone know what that is and where to buy? Thanks! Artyom
