Hi, I'm working on a short super8 fiction, I used 15 rolls but after editing I think the film will last 6mn. After checking how expensive it is to get super8 film transfered in HD, I decided to do a first hand editing to save money. So I bought a very cheap Viewer Editor, a MINETTE S-4, it works but it's very very dark, do you know a way to fix that? Should I open it and try to clean something like the mirror? Is it made for dark room only ? For information it uses a 6 volts-10 watt bulb, what I have is 12v-10 watt, guess it's alright... Any information's very welcome !

Hi, I just shot a super8 Ektachrome 100d. The film came back from the lab today full of stranges things: one orange vertical line on the left side of the film, green little squares here and there and completly white frames in the middle of a shot. Very nice! I used a Beaulieu 4008, never opened it in the middle of the roll, and I know it doesn't affect the film that way, so what is it? The lab? Or the stock?

Just to let you know that I got my Kodachrome40 back from Dwaynes after 2 stops pushing and it looks very nice. Thanks again!

If you want to overexpose the film, there are two further white dots positioned to the right of the green dot. You need to move the film's speed setting away from the green dot in a clockwise direction to line it up with one of the white dots. However, if you look at what is now aligned with the green dot (the actual meter setting) you will see it is a lower asa value than your film. This may be where your confusion is stemming from? Of course, I got it now. I was thinking backward! It happens when I don't sleep enough... Thanks!

I forgot to mention, I'm using a beaulieu 4008 ZM II where you set the asa manually. Does that make a difference?

Are you sure? What you are saying seems very logical but on my beaulieu manual they're saying the opposite! I'm using the Beaulieu 4008 ZM II, there's a button (the left one on the below photo), the manual says : if you want to over-expose you can turn clockwise this button one or few points from the proper setting, two points means one stop, if you want to under-expose you do the opposite. When I go from 80 to 25 I turn clock wise so...

Here's the references of the stock I have: Kodachrome 40 (Type A) EI 40 Tungsten EI 25 Daylight (with Wratten 85 filter) The Kodachrome 40 Movie Film (Type A), is a colour reversal film which features extremly fine grain, saturated colours, high sharpness and excellent resolving power. It has an exposure index of 40, is balanced for exposure, without filters, to subjects lit by photolamps (3400K). Type A film can be used in daylight, using an exposure index of 25, when exposed with a KODAK Wratten 85 filter fitted to the camera.

Hi, I'm shooting a fim where a guy looks himself to a mirror and what he sees is his face but flat without eyes, nose and mouth but yet flesh colored. The scene is a steady shot with a steady actor. How can I do that properly on post-prod? I'm using after effects. Any suggestion ?

Hi, i'm shooting a scene in an outside restaurant next friday. I don't know how sunny it's gonna be, cloudy says the meteo. Anyway, the sun will be hidden by houses so it will be shady. My question is what light can I use to get more light on the faces. Unfortunately I can't afford too much equipment. The scene is a classic shot-reverse shot dialogue, two guys at lunch. I thought using one 1K ARRI (CTB), a white tablecloth as a reflector and an other reflector to fill where needed. Does that sound cheap to you or is it possible to make something ok with that? I'm shooting in super 8, Kodachrome 40 with a beaulieu 4008. Thanks!

Thank you, that was very clear. Unfortunately I read it too late. I shot the scene already, the only thing I did is framing the window as less as possible and put some object in front of it to hide it a little bit. Also, there was a tree just behind that window so I guess that should make it darker as well. Anyway, I'm sure it's not gonna look right. My keylight was an ARRI 300 and it looked very low to me with the CTB

Shooting someone seated in a chair at his desk, can we use the light coming from a window behinf him as a backlight (partly framed) and using an other window (in fact an artificial light with CTB) as a key light ? Is it too tricky or confusing ? I'm asking because for many reasons, I can't set the shot differently, I can't move the desk nor the camera.

So I should have used a 650W instead of a 300 ?
