  1. Aperture plate would be the steel type plate that is inside with my pressure pad, correct? Is there a way to lock the shutter blades open? (All I can think of is switching it to 'T' mode and holding the shutter against the 'P'. Thanks to the both of you. Time to clean!!
  2. Shot at 2012-01-10 The serve re-sized them, unfortunately I don't have access to a digital camera as well. Shot at 2012-01-10
  3. Just a cleaning concern, when I stumbled upon this! I decided to pick up my old h16 and stumbled on this little creature living under my pressure plate. Would this be hardened emulsion? "The inside of the apparatus must be kept very clean. Slight deposits of dust or emulsion may form in the gate or on the pressure pad during the passage of film. These, and the aperture in particular, should be carefully cleaned by means of a clean cloth wound around the end of a pencil. If the emulsion deposit has hardened, damp the cloth slightly and wipe with a dry cloth." - Bolex Paillard Manual Before I attempt to clean along the gate, is there anything I should be aware of. I've read to watch out for the shutter plate (should this never be touched or cleaned?). Also is this something I should worry about on my pressure plate, seems to have the smallest spider web effect, and there are two of them..

  6. Hello, I am a recent graduate of Sheridan College, majoring in documentary editing. I've grown fawned to the old 16-mm cameras over the past year and very much love shooting on my my own now. I have had experience as camera assist in student films and loved every minute of it. I am an active person and I find it harder and harder to sit in a chair all day editing. I'm really looking for more experience in the DP world, whether it's live action or a documentary project. I have my own super 16 bolex system that I use as often as I can afford the film. If you need help with a personal project or for a hired on project I would love the opportunity to help you, I always have a positive attitude, but most of all, I enjoy the sound of the camera running. Let me know, Cheers!
  7. Thanks for the information, I did a little basic math and timing to see what I came up with on the 24 fps interval. 10 second duration 245 = 10.208 sec 238 = 9.916 recrank 237 = 9.875 sec 231 = 9.625 recrank 237 = 9.875 sec 228 = 9.5 recrank 237 = 9.875 sec 228 = 9.5 20 second durations 458 = 19.083 sec recrank 454 = 18.916 sec recrank 460 = 19.166 sec I know it's not precise, but it gives me an idea. My camera seems to hold pretty decent times via the crank up method, so the marker seems to be doing just fine where it is atm.
  8. Alrighty then, I see two screws that seem to attach the independent slate with the numbers. Maybe I should pass it along to a professional, not sure what will happen if I start unscrewing these.
  9. I should really invest in a digital camera of some sort.. Uploaded with ImageShack.us I apologize.
  10. Hello, just wondering if anybody has the same sort of thing going on with their bolex systems. I got an earlier model rex-5 system. The speed dial is nice and tight but there might be a concern. The marker reaches a few millimeters short from the 12 f.ps. line. Just for further information, the speed dial ends above the six on the 64 f.p.s. I should run a test with a timer to see where my actual fps markers are. It might be difficult getting it precise, I'm still deciding what the bets plan is to do so. In the meanwhile is this an issue? Why is it almost a full centimeter off from the 12 fps and not the 64 fps as well.
  11. Jack Johnson, it seems he shoots all of his music videos (or themost of them) on his bolex. I believe he has a rex-4 too. I love watching his videos and music, my favourite camera and my favourite music!
  12. Willing to sell whole package for 1250$ CA, or, ebm package for 800$ CA, or, H16 Package for 425$ CA. Considering trades with: nikon F primes, Canon FD primes, battery for MST 6 pin motor, timelapse motors, switar lenses, or super 16 conversions of one of my rex-5s.
  13. I'm hearing certain serials of the Computar 12.5 1.3f really shines, as bright as the switars! I am purchasing one with # Ci6118. Does anyone know if this one will shine for me?.
  14. also included in the H16 package is an H16 pistol grip.
  15. Hello, I am selling.. Bolex EBM Body (amazing condition, cleaned, oiled) - this comes with the side handle bar, but sorry no power grip. - this also comes with the 1 side filter Bolex H16 Body (amazing condition, cleaned, oiled, shutter is precise) - Filter Set, Rewind Crank, Optometer 16mm, Base Plate. I also have a Pan Cinor 70 (17.5mm-70mm f/2.4) Zoom Lens with viewfinder) - unfortunately the zoom handle was misused and the screw is now stripped. I am located in the GTA, Ontario, Canada. I prefer to do local trades just because I haven't tried shipping items like these before. Please e-mail me offers, I prefer not to put a pricetag on these types of items because I wouldn't know how to price them, hopefully we come to a fair agreement! Thank you. I will hopefulyl add pictures later if I remember, or e-mail me for more details!
  16. Sorry, I am usually quick at repsonding but for some reason I am not getting e-mail notifications and forgot I posted on this topic. I'm not too sure you can check out the website or give them a shout (google their name). I am actually in the process of getting a custom made housing for a wind up h16 model, I'd lend it to you if you still needed it, but I probably won't get it for a little longer. I can't imagine if this still useful information, but for future reference I suppose.
  17. If you are Ontario, LIFT (The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto) rents out an underwater housing for the H16 for a really great price. I believe it's only 10 dollars (or under). I'm interested to find out where they got theirs, looks like they are hard to come by, would love to find one myself! I just realized you posted this three years ago, oops! Anyways..
  18. Ah! Perfect, that's all the picture displayed, wasn't sure whether or not there was more to it. Time to find a 12v battery pack with 6-pin capability now. Thank you!
  19. Hey there, First off, I have a Bolex Rex-5 with the the 400ft magazines. At the moment, I don't have a MST and battery to power this bad boy. I have been looking at MST motors and they are kind of expensive, but I came across a much cheaper one and wondering if this model will fit my rex-5. The lay out of it is a bit different so I'm worried it is not designed for the magazine and a battery to power it. Here it is attached (I need it to be 24f, which it is). It seems that it may attach to a handgrip and battery, not magazine and battery.
  20. Makes sense, I need to figure out a rig like for my adapter.. I'd hate to switch to another 35mm system. Then again I don't find myself using 35mm lenses too often, I mostly use wide angle lenses, so I need to invest more of my money with switar lenses. I'd love to shoot with my FD lenses for weddings or fun stuff like that. Post a picture of if you ever get a chance, thanks. By the way, if interested: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577756-REG/Bower_VA301_C_MOUNT_f_CANON.html I got a cheaper general brand one. I recently bought a Nikon to C Mount adapter off ebay and it's great! It has a push in button that opens the lens right up to check framing. It's a shame that these photo lenses breath, I haven't shot 35 photo on 16 cine however so I shouldn't be talking... yet. Do you ever rack focus? For documentary sake the breathing wouldn't bother me I suppose though.
  21. What FD adapter do you have? I have a bunch of beautiful FD lenses I'd love to shoot but with my adapter there is nothing to set the aperture blades - so my lens is always stuck wide open. I didn't realize this issue until I bought the actual adapter..
  22. You guys are confusing me again :P Just kidding, but going back to your second post: you're right about worrying about light leaks rather than fractions of stops. From difficult moves to rack focusing by myself or with very little help from a friend - I worry not keeping my eye tightly on the viewfinder.. as I have to multitask. How often does light leak through the viewfinder, do you think it's a smart idea for me to modify a deeper rubber eyepiece than the one it comes with it? Right now I don't even have a eyepiece for it, been using the berhiot reflex lens eyepiece for it, surprisingly fits well on it.
  23. Thanks a lot for all the info, I am building up footage of the escarpment I live near in Ontario and hope to make a visual piece out of it in the near future. It's a really beautiful trail all year around, Starting from Niagara, pushing right into the Georgian Bay, I hope to shoot it all on the bolex. Thanks to Christmas, I should stock up on the cheap student price film while I can before I graduate (for every 400ft vision2 stock I buy, I get another stock for free! Plus a 30% student discount!) Yummy!
