  1. Ahh, no found the video. 4:50 in - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL-4WwF5mDM
  2. The clip got taken down from youtube (screenshotted a while ago), they're def. plastic. I've taken a look in some craft shops but nothing comes close. Adrian, I'll do some experimenting for sure. I made a makeshift type wire brush like in the video that works. I don't really want to have anything to weighty. If anyone can recommend some plastics that's be great.
  3. I was watching a behind the scenes clip for a perfume commerical and noticed this cool handmade tool used to make abstractions and bokeh type effects. It's thin wire and small plastic circles but I have exhausted every possible google search I can think of and was wondering if anyone knows the actual name for the plastic, has made one, or knows where I can get it. It sort of looks like something you'd find in a kids art kit. Many many thanks. A.x
  4. I'm shooting a launch party next week that requires some slow motion. I'm currently using a 5D mark ii, would it be reasonable to mount a gopro 3 on the top and have that shoot at 60fps / 120fps and use the 5D for normal shots, has anyone done this. Or should I look into maybe renting a 7D. (Also does anyone know if there's ever going to be a firmware update for the 5D for 60fps or has that rumour been axed now)
  5. Hmm. Well I'm new to using old lenses. I have a 50mm Olympus OM lens that I can attatch with an adaptor to the canon body. Then I could use step up rings to attatch that to the kowa and use rails to stop from sagging? Would that be a useable setup?
  6. Okay, so I bought the lens for a reasonable price. What do I need to purchase to use this on a Canon 5D and what to use for a bolex H16. Is it a T mount adaptor I need for my canon and some kind of anamorphic clamp for the bolex? (I know I should probably post this in the bolex bit, but I thought I'd get a quicker response here)
  7. Hi everyone. I'm buying a Kowa 8Z lens on ebay and received this email from the seller (quite possible he/she is on here)... "I went to have it properly checked today, it is not fungus in the lens, the two back elements have slightly separated. I can send you a email with images i took today with a canon 5D 50mm and the 8Z (i still cannot see anything wrong with it)." Will this be fine in the long term. Are there any other questions I should be asking? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190842029661?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
  8. Thanks for your responses. A lab near me has an optical printer, thinking of giving this a shot seeing what I can come up with.
  9. Something I've always been curious about. How did they do titles before digital, like the text and colour blocks etc.
  10. I don't believe personal archiving will be an issue as there is a company that hosts a digital archive for us, however this isn't something i'm involved with. I am going into this a little blind as there hasn't been a focus on this before. I know in the past there was an event we hosted where a video company was hired to stream a live feed into the cinema from the lecture theatre due to a huge demand for the speaker. However this would be a rare occurrence but given that it does need to happen again, would tape cameras be out of the question for something like this. I have thought of the possibility of getting two second hand Canon XF100's, then if I left there would still be a decent two camera setup to be used. Other uses could be trailers or promotional videos for the website, which would require HD, however this could be covered by the 5D.
  11. I did consider the EX-1 however at 3,500 it is over budget (however saying that the blackmagic 35 is too, so probably cross that out) whereas I can find the original blackmagic camera for around 2 grand. Audio is recorded separately so that's not an issue. The basic criteria I was given can be boiled down to 1) ability to continuously shoot and 2) high quality image. The blackmagic is just something I'm familiar with from watching product reviews. Is there a cheaper alternative to the EX-1?
  12. Hello everyone, I'm about to start shooting talks and lectures at my work and there is some money set aside to improve equipment (previously they were only shooting on a handycam). I myself have a canon 5d mark ii, but the problem with this is that it cannot shoot for longer than 15 min. So, I was thinking of using the budget to buy a blackmagic cinema camera, (and maybe the super 35 blackmagic camera), have that setup on a wide shot and then use the canon 5d mark ii to provide additional coverage but not a continuous shot. My question is really, can anyone with more experience than me pick fault with this setup or advise me on a way to do it better. Will there be any considerable quality difference between the two cameras and will this matter as it's going to be compressed on youtube. BW, Alex
  13. Just going to jump into this thread rather than start another. Looking to buy an anamorphic lens but the moellers seem to be hard to come by. Right now for sale here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=Rectimascope&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=16mm+anamorphic&_sacat=0 There's a Bell and Howell lens, a scope lens adaptor, a very expensive panavision one (probs not that to start), and a fumeo lens. Which would you guys recommend. Could I just go ahead with the scope lens adaptor - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16MM-LENS-ANAMORPHIC-SCOPE-LENS-ADAPTORS-FOR-EIKI-ELMO-BELL-HOWELL-/200909673472?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec7265400 Edit: or, just noticed this Kowa 8Z lens, would that be fine to get started with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kowa-8Z-Anamorphic-Cinemascope-Lens-/140939821797?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item20d0ab02e5
  14. Hello everyone, I don't have much technical expertise in this field but I need to build a dolly system with some form of propulsion. I need to move 100m as fast as possible. What suggestions or systems does anyone know of that are already available or something I could build?
