No not quite , It was just outside of a small town called Swakopmund in Namibia , on the west coast of Southern Africa . I'm in Cape Town and we do a lot of jobs out this way . Josh, I have to agree with Michael and Matthew about whether or not you are qualified to rig something of this nature . If you are not , take the time to do the course and get the appropriate accreditation and Knowledge that is required for such things . Sorry if I sounded irresponsible in offering advice on rigs of this nature .

by the way this is what we call a fly swatter , is this what you had in mind?

here's one i did for a show a while ago . we used a manitou or telescopic forklift , they can handle alot of weight , so wind is not an issue ,you can also tilt the forks up and down quite alot . the only draw back is that they cannot pan . I used a piece of truss on the basket and a diagonal support to the front of the frame to stop it from bending in the wind .

Hey guys , so I finally got around to taking a photo of the gold clamps I made for car rigs and similar rigs , but I only noticed once I downloaded it , I say how bad the focus is ! But hopefully you get the idea and how they function . as far as size goes , the important thing is that they fit the size of the rod you use . 16mm is the diameter of a gobo arm so thats what seemed logical . standard

Hey Justin . Check out my pic earlier in the topic of the bus . the grid on top is the most logical choice for lighting . If the production owned the RV maybe you could suggest supporting the roof and even putting a small arm up there with a libra or similar head to get some great shots moving around the vehicle .

Hey Ariel . We had those clamps made up along with the rods , the rods are in various lengths with a 3/8ths thread on either end . using a grub screw we join them to make the required length . Modern studio equipment sells them(clamps) but I find they are a bad design and aren't very good . Most of their stuff is alright but those are finished really badly , so you would be better off going to a local engineer , it should be an easy project . If you want the exact shape I could do one in sketch up for you .

cheers Ian . our 3d rig and libra weighs in at 80 kg's i have nick phillips here with me ( Mr Libra ) He reckons it is absolutely fine to put the rig on the front nose mount of the techno . the only thing i cant do is put it on a tracking car like that , which is a shame cos that's where i need this configuration . he showed me a pic of the pace 3D rig in the same mod with no issues (much heavier than my rig )

They are a serious workout when it comes to rigs and size , I'll keep you updated on what goes on and any things I encounter . Hopefully by march they will have some of the newer cameras in the rigs that are much smaller .

we have the new upgraded libra . the blue stripe . We are using reds on a paradise 3D rig , they tell me it is a smaller rig than the pace , but the libra can handle the pace too . the brackets drop it down alot and the distance from the bottom of the camera to the top of the crane nose is almost 5 feet or so . this screws me for tight passages and rooms with normal ceilings because i can barely get to eye height without hitting the roof . I therefore want to do the horizontal Libra setup . I will lose alot of pan ( now the 3rd axis ring of the libra ) but have a much smaller top to bottom profile. does the new head they have work on the same principal as the g3 or flighthead? I find these heads have to much lateral movement when faced tighter lensed tracking stuff.

n't handle the weight of the 3D camera , so I will have to mount it directly to the arm , on the 8 bolts that are on the front . I will post pics of it once we do it .

anyone got any pics of a libra mounted horizontally on a technocrane , ie on the same line as the arm , straight out the front . I need to make up the bracket and am curious on specs of how you did it .

Hey Steve .We use a variety of clamps to attach to the bottom of the car .On most cars you can find a hole somewhere , we use a half clamp (swivel clamp cut in half) and bolt it in place . we also use flange clamps which bite on a flat bar or I beam , or even just strap a pipe in place . whatever it takes in ashort amount of time . if you have the car for prep then you can make custom mounts

I remember that's when you called me about the tracks . I have since moved on though , much better now .

Thanks David . Those speed wheels do look the Business ,and the price seems decent , we had considered that same brake design .and your ideas about weight does seem logical .

fortunately my track can be any width you need since we don't use cross members, so I don't have that problem. But Ya that was the other thought about why they do it . I suppose there's always a simple explanation and I wasn't sure how often other grips use Chinese since you have to lay 2 tracks. here's our track in the wider versions

I remember the square track . I figured that that is the reason for these add on wheels . all of this still doesn't explain why some dollies have 2 sets of wheels on each corner . got any links to that guy in florida to check out what he's got ? We thought about a brake system on speed wheels , but you still have the extra effort of going onto the speed wheels and the extra height

thanks will do . the fisher 10 also has the 2 wheel system do you use them in any way that could explain the reason for it ? maybe weight distribution so the axel isnt one sided ?I guess its not really that important , just curious

Thats the idea , they would stay on . By putting the dolly in crab they could be inside or out , That's what I don't get though , why do the dollies have two sets of tracking wheels ? the soft wheels are too soft to use on a track so there's no point in having both compounds on . I tried emailing chapman but they never respond .

hey Sanjay I know the fisher skate wheels and they are great . The thing is that they don't have the break for one , and they make you higher than normal too. also you have to lift the dolly on separately which is a ball ache too. the problem is this . I use a Hustler dolly and my own brand of track which are 6 meters long , so the joins are reduced . The trouble with the Hustler is that the wheels are formed to the curve of the tube of the track and are a snug fit . therefore they feel any bumps or nicks whereas a hybrid or pee wee don't feel a thing . So given that the Hustler has two sets of tracking wheels ( something I am still baffled by as to why )I figured that I can leave a set of these on one side and the original on the other . I am busy making some up for the Hustler . I will let you know if I'm wasting my time and end up using my speed wheels cheers

Has anyone got any experience using the fisher dolly replacement wheels ( pics below ) for use on tracks?
