  1. Depending on the light outside sometimes i really prefer to use the view finder. with my photography camera i only use the view finder. Does any have any advice on how i could set my view finder to get better results?
  2. I should mention that i also use a hv30 and a canon s5is for photography. They also have lcd vfs but you can't adjust them. So i've never actually had a problem with them. I can look threw those vfs for a long time fine. I must be setting up the vf wrong on the xha1s. Perhaps my method is wrong. How do you guys do it?
  3. It's been a while since i've had my eyes checked. But i have such good vision that it surprises people at age 22. So i've never bothered. I use a canon xha1s. I can adjust the view finder so that it will suit my eyes. I do it to the best of my abilities but still hurts. Also i'm sure that the xha1s vf doesn't work with mirror. It's just another smaller lcd.
  4. Thanks for your reply. I've been trying to set it to the text or put it on autofocus and setting it to what is autofocused. I'd like to try your advice. Do you mean to set my cameras focus to infinity and then focus my view finder?
  5. I've been trying to use my view finder for filming and focusing but it hurts my eyes. I have a very good eye sight but after 10 mins of looking threw the view finder my eyes become so blurry i can't read things right in front of me and it stays like that for a long time. I've tried using adjusting the vf to my eyes but it still hurts. I can't seem to get it perfect. Any advice? Should i just use the LCD which would you recommend? Thanks
  6. I really like slot motion. I remember watching a video on lighting and slow motion on youtube but i couldn't find it for you. How far are your lights from the subject. Because at 2000fps they must be very illumined. At such high speeds i would personally only use the suns light out doors or try and light it up that much. If i were you i'd try to shoot under sun light or if that is not the option perhaps try to get a hold of the camera in advance and try those lights out. That way if they don't work you'll have a week or a day till the shoot and you'll see how much more light that camera actually needs and be able to prepare for it some how. Perhaps by renting another stronger light. Also if you can get a cheap light meter (from $10 of ebay) and use that to work out how much light you need. Test how much light is on your subject outdoor and try to match that with lights indoor.
  7. Just out of curiosity what camera will you be using?
  8. That was a good site. I'd be keen to see some too.
  9. Bravo. I thought it had great cinematography. I really liked seeing steadycam work. The color editing was great. Unfortunately it was in a different language so i didn't understand the story. But two thumbs up:)
  10. I've looked into it. The 7D does not have 2000fps. Some guy made a slow motion vid using canon 7D and computer programs with the bmx's. If you want a affordable DSLR camera with high frames per second your only option would be the casio ex-f1 at 1200fps Sadly the higher the fps on this camera the lower the quality. So basically at 1200fps it's super slow but very low quality.
  11. Thanks for your reply. It clarified it beautifully for me:)
  12. That's cool. Could you kindly explain some of the advantages of a large sensor so i can get a better understanding? Or perhaps redirect me to a site that I can read? Cheers
  13. I've done research but i can only find info on photography. Why are large sensors so popular and in demand? I understand that they have less noise. Is it just a fact that large sensors are better or is it based on peoples preference. Because for some reason I don't find the footage of most cameras with large sensors all that impressive. I personally find them to be too strong on light colors. They also make everything sort of dreamy looking. Things look as though they have no weight to them. Have I completely miss understood this whole thing? Share your views please:)
  14. I just looked at the f3 and the image is really fantastic. It's the only sony camera that i've actually liked so far. I think 13k is worth it. It's got a very professional look. I think i may like it better than Red even for half the price!
  15. I am using Sony Vegas 9. I can't find any information on what the actual difference is between low mid and high. Could some one please explain the difference? The all seem to do the same thing. Also, as I use the RGB red green and purple are near at 200. What does this mean? Which ever color i turn down the others go up. I can not get them below 100 which a tutorial told me to do. Unless i miss understood that tutorial. Please help me out! Thanks
  16. This all sounds pretty good and all. But now theres no cameras around the 5-6k price range that are pretty pro like the xha1s. I thought thats were they would have been making most their money anyway.
  17. Miller. I've got both miller and manfrotto products. Miller is the best.
  18. I'm new to lighting so my method is not going to be the best. But the best way to learn is to get involved:) If you are going for the cold dark look Could you just increase the gain or ISO on your camera and perhaps use reflectors to direct the street light to the actors faces and bodies? Especially if your in an environment were the main source of light is coming from nearly 4 meters high up. Unless you have a very tall stand for your lights. But if you reflect the light it wont look like a new light source but a small reflection. But that would probably only work well if you do want the dark creepy street look.
  19. That surprises me too. Didn't they realize that their SLR cameras stole the market. Why would they let sony and panasonic lead in the big chip market which was theirs all these years.
  20. It's a beautiful camera. It's not on their website anymore. They've got a new range the xlh1 is not in there. Unfortunately the only prosumer cameras on the list are the xf305, fx300, fx105 and fx100. The fx305 and 300 look like the predecessors of xha1's expect nearly 4 grand more expensive. I've looked seen the image they put out and i did not like it. I prefer the xha1s. Nothing has replaced the xlh1. Are they really letting go of the high end pro camera market? Are they crazy? The xf100 and 105 could be a high end consumer camera. But don't belong in the professional camera range.
  21. The xlh1 and the high end cameras are all off the site. I'm not impressed with the new range either. Especially those little cameras. I've looked at the reviews and test footages and I don't like them
  22. I was just on their professional camcorder site and i cant find any of the cameras that were on just last month like the xha1s. Have they all been discontinued? Thats a bit sad.
  23. Damn, i bought the 12 foot one. I'll be using a xha1s with it. Hopefully it'll be strong. It was cheap so i guess i'll just have to live with it. How was the head? I suppose i can strengthen the arm myself in other ways.
  24. Thanks for the reply guys. It was a home made crane. I went and saw it and did not like it at all. The guy said he would throw in a old but really awesome miller tripod in with it so i got interested and bought it. The tripod is fantastic. I've spent many hours modifying and trying to make the crane usable. I've decided its not my job and i'll just buy a pro aim crane. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with these cranes?
