  1. I'm looking for a lanc control for my xha1s to be set up on a jib. I can't find any with a focus knob. Are the buttons any good? They seem hard to use. Please share your experiences.
  2. I've seen many movies that were noisy in the dark. Even Dark night batman. I've been thinking about the same thing for awhile now. I've decided some sometimes noise can be nice sometimes unbearable. A music video i made some time ago had horrible noise. It was very unpleasant to watch. But other times i see things with noise that are very pleasant to watch.
  3. I bought a crane which came with a field monitor. It was strange that it had an antenna. But he told me it definately is a field monitor. I looked it up and it was a car tv monitor. I have a hd camera. I can't seem to connect them into each other. Is it going to be totally useless for me?
  4. Hi, I'm buying a crane today from the papers. It's a hand made crane but it's very well priced. What things should i look for them buying a crane? What things should i check? It's 5 meters tall. It has a LCD monitor screen. It's been used with heavier camera's than mine too. My main concern is it dropping my camera.
  5. Thought i'd add, when i view it in sony vegas it's pretty smooth. After rendering all these interlace artifacts come into it.
  6. Hi, I'm having some difficulty (or need to better understand) using Sony Vegas 9. I'm trying to render a short Slow motion clip i've made just to test my gear. I've uploaded around 500MB of HD 1080i clips in vegas and slow motioned them. It's around 2.5 minutes long. The originals clips (saved in my documents folder) are crisp clear, very smooth, no interlace artifacts and well sized. When i Render it as through vegas (as uncompressed) it turns from 500MB to 55GB! It horribly interlaced (Mice teeth) and because of the size very jumpy. When i render it as HD 1080p it is 25GB and the interlace improves dramatically. It is still interlaced but more of a clear ghosty interlace. Still no were near as pleasant as the original. Why does this program make it so big and interlace it so much? Can i do something to get better results? Thanks:)
  7. Na I can't. I bought it second hand (it's 3 months old) from newspaper ad. It's still under warranty though so if anything is wrong they should fix it. I'm starting to realize its more the programs settings fault more than the camera which is good news.
  8. Ah interestingg! I didn't know VCL does that. I don't really know what the settings mean though. I watched the Skating clips on tape on the xha1s lcd screen. Besides the fact that the tennis courts lines were pixelated (which was fixed on big screen) it was very smooth and no interlaced mouse teeth at all when paused. Some of the hv30 clips i'm watching now on VCL are also very interlaced. I'm starting to think that it's not the cameras but i need to better understand editing programs and how to set the settings properly. Maybe my disappointment in my new camera was wrong (hopefully!)
  9. That's great advice actually. Because i'm starting to suspect a lot of my problem is coming from how i'm using vegas. I'll try using save snapshot. When i capture a video it saves it in my documents. When I look at the files on my documents with nero showtime they are usually very good quality and reasonably sized. When the same file is on vegas it's far worste quality even when set to best full. And when i export it a one minute clip can be up to 1GB when the original is probably only 300MB. Is this normal or are my settings wrong perhaps?
  10. thank you for the link. I've had a glance at wiki but i found other sites that went more into it like http://www.100fps.com/ I played with it more lastnight. When i play the skating clip on VLC player it is so badly interlaced that it's painful to watch. But when i play it in Nero showtime it's is really quite good. Someone brought to my attention that cameras don't interlace but programs do it. But so far i've had a different understanding so i'm trying to find more info to make this clearer for me. If anyone has any good links:) Thanks everyone!
  11. Call me a noob if you will but i have to say whats on my heart. Why did i pay so much money for a camera what cant even catch movement properly:( My Canon hv30 catches sharper images, with less noise and can handle all kinds of movement beautifully. I feel like i should have just spent the money on lighting equipment and another hv30 and had plenty of money left over:( The only ways the xha1s has been better so far is focus ring and sound. Here are some print screens from my hv30. This one is a punch which is faster than all the other movements at real high shutter speed. Theres on interlace. It's beautiful. Perhaps i haven't understood this yet and i'm making a fool of myself but this saddens me:( Have I miss understood this?
  12. Ok i managed to upload the photos These I paused and print screened And these were rolling when i print screened them. (sometimes it's ok. Not so horrible to watch like this So my question is whether this is normal or an unacceptably too much interlaced. It's really not that pleasant to watch though.
  13. lol i like the way you put it. But it doesn't with mine:( I taped a friend skating at a tennis field. The tennis field lines were horrible. Extremely pixelated especially in pans and so forth. When i captured it on sony vegas and made it full screen the lines weren't so bad anymore. But because he was moving fast and doing tricks it was extremely interlaced. It was very unpleasant to watch any fast movement. I print screened some of it. I'm trying to upload it. But i can't upload it:S I can't even upload it on flickr. Everytihng i do goes wrong X(
  14. I'd be very happy with this quality. and I played around with it a lot last night. My black helmet and anything round is very pixelated. The worst are the piano keys. Unless at a 90 degree angle it's really pixelated. I've got a feeling it's just a problem mine is having. What do you guys reckon? Or am i being paranoid?
  15. Could I have ended up with a faulty camera though? Because when i look at all the tests of the same camera on youtube no one else seems to be having the same problem:S They have far more smooth edges and sharper quality than mine.
  16. I don't understand:( I'll have to do some reading on what deinterlaced means. Is there anything i can do to avoid it?
  17. Hi, Please read my thread on this camera http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=49534 It's a great camera:) I love it. It's hard to pull off though. I also have a hv30. I get better footage on the hv30 at the moment because its such a user friendly camera. But i have a lot to learn about the xha1s because i can put it to it's full potential:) It's a great camera to learn with!
  18. I believe this camera and sony vg10 will give the SLR cameras with film feature a real good run for their money.
  19. I checked and the the camera records in 1920x1080 and the settings on sony vagas is also set to 1920x1080.
  20. Sorry i had to crop it this small to be able to upload it.
  21. I have just saved the pictures in PNG. But it's too big to upload here. If i upload it on Flickr will it reduce resolution and be pointless again? I will check what resolution my camera saves and what my editing program (vagas) changes it to and let you know. If my editing program doesn't compress the videos a 4 minute video i create will be too big to fit even on a dvd. What i like about the video i posted is how sharp the images are. Even at at 320p it's very sharp. How can I change my nickname? I looked around but couldn't change it:S Thanks!
  22. The Sheet notes are also pixelated at 1:38 This is the quality footage some people are getting with the same camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2p0bwWG1Hk Mine doesn't even come close to it at the moment:(
  23. Thanks for your replies everyone! My laptop battery was running out so i rushed my explanation. I outlined the red on the window were it was happening. But the pictures quality got reduced when i put it up here so it got pixelated all over. I've uploaded them on Flickr for better resolution. It's made it smaller and improved it a bit. Original is worst. (bike fuel tank) http://www.flickr.com/photos/57000250@N05/5270542877/in/photostream/ (car window frame) I also realized i made this video when i got the camera. The piano keys are very pixelated on the edges. (Like at 0.07 seconds into the vid) It's the same on the camera screen and view finder too when i'm filming or playing it. It also had a lot of noise which i realized after i had shot it. Turning off gain seemed to fix that. I'm not sure whether that is normal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL8ehN8A8sY Sorry are nickname not allowed on this forum?:)
  24. Hi, I'm new to this forum. Hello everyone. I was hoping to get some advice. I have a Canon hxa1s and i've been getting a problem were the edge of my film and pictures are pixelated. Like stairs. In film it looks like the stairy edges are running around. I've attached some pictures to demonstrate. I wanted to know whether this is normal or if there is something i can do to prevent it. Thank you!
