  6. Dear Filmmakers, I need your clarification. Why would one shoot a interior scene in close-ups and then cut away into a wide shot outside the window with the subjects seen through the window. What type of visual storytelling is that and what is the DP trying to get across. Also what would is the basic symbollic meaning of HARD vs. SOFT light when using light to tell the story. Thank You
  7. Dear Filmmmakers, Has anyone seen shopgirl featuring steve martin. It really had some serious visual storytelling, especially the lighting, it looked very symbolic to the story and had some beautiful scenes. POST YOUR THOUGHTS
  8. :) EVERYONE, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOT OR SHOTS? AND WHY? Thanks
  9. Rolfe, Thanks allot for the advice. You gave back the best feedback. I agree that the story and character wherent really developed. What shot layout did you like and what shot layouts didnt work out. Please be specific. Thanks
  10. Thanks for the advice. The basic story that I tried to show to the viewers is that a magician living in the 1950' shadowy and stark world figures out how to enter into the bright colorful world of the 21st century and he walks into the future just like the note said " The future is closer than you think" Please, KEEP ON POSTING !!! What about the editing, music, and SFX. Oh and that moon i shot it myself. Any advice will help, and watch till the end. Thanks Oh, and I edited using iMovie so I couldnt do to much color-correction.
  11. Micah, Did you watch it to the very end? Thanks
  12. Thanks. Thats a big suprise because I thoght people would think its not that good. KEEP ON POSTING!!! IM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY AND KEEP WATCHING TILL THE END. THERE IS A BIG SUPRISE IN THE END Thanks Oh and if you can not read what the paper sais closer to the end of the movie it sais: - " The future is closer than you think " -
  13. Dear filmmakers, During May 05, I shot a totally unplanned (no script) and spontaneous shoot. It started out just as a practice lighting setup and progressed into a plot from a dream I had. STORY LINE: A 1950's Los Angeles magician takes a unexpected leap into the future in this suspence style, film noir film. "THE MAGICIAN" http://oneweb.utc.edu/~nsf557/magic/magic.mov (copy and paste this link, oh and dont mind the warning sign it was a stupid mistake.) - :( Sorry for the compressed horible quality but I really whant you to tell me what you think SPECS: I shot using a 400 dollar DV camea that let me control exposure, shutter, focus and zoom. I used 250watt and 500 watt photofloods for lighting and also used a diffusion frame as a very soft fill light. Thanks
  14. WHAT HAPPENED? DID WE STOP LIGHTING SCENES? LETS START POSTING... GREAT THREAD!!! Here is a shot I did for one of my close-ups. I wanted it to look soft, warm and elegant. I used a 500watt photoflood with a Opal at 3200 degress kelvin as the key light coming from the right. I really didnt want any fill so I used a kicker/backlight at a 10 o'clock position using a 250 watt photoflood bounced of a silver reflector with a 1/2 blue ctb. Oh, I also used a 812 filter and a 1/2 black promist. What do you think? thanks
  15. They shot digital with a film look camera to make it look like the The other O.C. Here is a link for a bunch of info about it http://www.postmagazine.com/post/article/a...l.jsp?id=170408
  16. under Song click "MY BOO". P.S. They really had some serious color-correction
  17. Here is a link where you can watch it WMP format and be able to skip and go back. http://www.findvideos.com/search.php?query...o&submit=Search
  18. I new they had some kind of color correction. Any more info like lighting or anything like that. Thanks
  19. ... RICHER THAN RICH! I have never seen anything better, it looked rich, magical, almost glossy with amazing quality. It obviosly was shot on film unless they had a real wizard color correcting and shooting it. What do you think they did while shooting, lighting, and color-correcting just out of curiosity ( I obviosly wont get something like than with my knowledge and camera) The exact name is "MY BOO" by Usher. Please give me any info if you saw it and if you havnt you really need to watch it thats what I define as beautifull cinematography. Thanks P.S. Sorry for posting it this forum since it doesnt match, but I just had to have everyone here about this!
  20. I will never trust ebay aaain after I paid 60 bucks and got a box with confetti and plus I always check the profile and feedback and I still am not saitsfied. I mean I have bought stuff that worked but I just dont rust it.
  21. Dear Filmmakers, Here is a link to a light I whant. What do you think of it? I will probably use it as a kicker/backlight and maybe as a low-key and fill light. Wat do you think of it as a accent light? Also it says its a "LTM Pepper 100 Watt Fresnel" but in the specs it says its a maximum 200 watts. what do you think? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...egoryNavigation Thanks Allot

    Check this out

Here is a update of what you guys told me. I couldnt really have the background to far because I dont have enough room. AND I agree with you guys about how it doesnt matter how something looks as long as it supports the story and and does not distract the viewer. But anyway this scene is sopposed to look elegant, warm and soft because this is a pretty and easy going scene. Here is the new grab.
  23. "What I am confused about is the light output and how much light they create." Could you please answere this exact question: "One of the bulbs that it uses is 5,500 K and says it is 55 watts and is a flourecent bulb. What would be the light output compared to a 250 watt photoflood would it be the same and would there be less light?" thanks
