So I am renting a s16 and I have my test reel planned out and ready to shot, I was wondering if anybody had any additional things, that may be a little out of the norm, that you always do when test shooting. And/or any must do's, as I may have looked over some things with the fast pace I have been going at lately. I would just like a checklist from the professionals, so that this intermediate can one day join your ranks!!! As always, thanks.

Does any body have any suggestions as to a tripod and fluid head comparable to that one of the X15, in a similar price range (near about $5,000). Needs to hold about 30-40 pounds, etc.

I was wondering if anyone has used the Panther X15 tripod and fluid head system, what you thought about it, what you have heard, etc? Thanks

does anyone know if this the sachtler 7 + 7 fluid head base will fit the bowl of a ronford double riser tripod?

If you are purchasing a substantial amount of equipment from AbelCine or Visual Products or another large dealer, is it uncustomary to bargain with them? Are the prices pretty much set in stone? I don't want people's opinions on this matter, I want a for sure fact from someone who has had to purchase from a company like this. Thanks

Can someone explain to me the process that negative stocks go through. I have only shot on reversals, and would like to step it up to negative stocks. I am wondering about the price difference between the two after developing aand transferring. I am a little unclear as to the phases that the film goes through. Shoot>develop>telecine? or work print? Can they reverse the image in telelcine stage, does it mess up the colors? What exactly is a work print, and any other stages I am surely missing? Thanks.

Looking for a 7mm, 8mm or 9mm Zeiss prime to purchase, the faster the better of course. Budget for this is around $2,000.

its just for dailies, to make sure the image looks good before money is spent on a telecine.

Is it the French or German motor model that you have for your SR-II? Also, thanks to all for your replies.

I've been looking at S16mm cameras, and among their descriptions is a PL mount. What does PL mean, what is it good for etc....? My cinematography lingo is not as savvy as many of you, so if there is a simple way of you eplaining this I would greatly appreciate it. On a side note: I think this site is great and what all of you do is great, I have never found another place that has been so condusive in helping beginning or aspiring DPs and filmmakers. In your opinions what are the best super 16mm cameras for under $30,000, and why? Should i get a nice zoom, or a mediocre zoom and decent prime? What are some good s16 color reversal stocks?

I was under the impression that the sound recorded on miniDV would would fall out of sync after a few seconds whenever I tried to sync it up to my film image which runs at 24fps? thanks for your help

what is the cheapest and easiest method to record sync sound when using a crystal sync motor? Nagra, dat, other? Will nagra need transferring, if so, how much? Thanks

I have decided to invest in a super 16mm camera. I am specifically interested in the Aaton XTR Plus (not prod). I would love to hear pros and cons from those of you who have used it before or hersay about the camera.
