  1. I praying that it's not the fault of the camera. I forgot to mention one other visual problem its having. Perhaps it will help clear up my definition of "pixelation". If there are lines on the wal or you are filming a line of dvds stacked in a row or anything of that sort a, strange almost zebra like pattern shows up on their edges. Yes zebra is turned off. Id appreciate any advice. thanks Max
  2. I have to say i'm looking foward to see Spielberg attempt yet another serious "real life drama". Perhaps im alone here but I really do feel that subtlety and Steven do not go together. He replaces beauty with slam bang in your face visuals and often goes for the cliche look that is popular at the time (i.e de-saturation now, purposeful noise and grain within Schindler's List, etc.... This film has the potential to be mysterious and intriguing. Well find out.
  3. Hi, I am using the xl2 for the first time and having a series of troubles that I must sort out very quickly. For one, no matter what I seem to do, everything recorded in 24p appears to be choppier than it should, (cars that go by look pixilated and "blocky"). What settings would optimize the perfomance in 24p mode in on averge partly sunny day. My second trouble is a achieving the "film look". Now as we all know, you can only get so close but I can figure out how to soften the image. Film is very sharp in piccture yet soft in tone but no matter what settings I tweek I tend to have a very harsh dv look. What would you suggest to tone this down as much as possible. Id appreciate anyones help as soon as possible. Thanks Max
  4. I didn't see anyone mention a 1/3 setting however the VFRM-11 - 11x Rotating Type Medium Finder by Cavision has that ability. Max
  5. Thanks for the advice. I think you may be right about the $195 being a hard price to beat. I submitted this topic in hopes that I might run into some blind luck, (someone who has an older finder they do not use anymore and are willing to sell for dirt cheap). Hopefully that someone is out there, otherwise I will probably purchase a Cavision as you suggested. Max
  6. It has always been a challenge for me to shoot smooth handheld tracking shots and or smooth moving shots. Perhaps because I am not Tai chi material, I do not know. I've been very interested in purchasing a glidecam of some sort to remedy this problem, however the budget is extremely tight. Does anyone have a recomondation as to the highest quality glidecam for the lowest price - or does any one have a handheld teqnique that is not widely known for I am in a jam here. Thank you. Max
  7. Thanks John. Ive got some reading to do. :)

    Decent S16

Does a decent (or excellent for that matter) s16 camera, within a 2000 dollar price range exist. If so, which one(s) would be the best choice(s). Thank you. Maxwell T. McAdams Director/Lmsd Tv Prod. Silent Storm Pictures
  9. Hello, as I have said in some of my other posts, I am a Director, slowly stepping foward into the complex world of a DP. One of the greatest challenges facing me at the moment, my lack of knowledge when choosing a particular film stock. Is there a website or a book, available that explains the various film stocks, perhaps providing a sample mpeg, so as to give one an example of a particular stock's qualities (i.e. grain, saturation, etc...) I would like to be able to make a decent assesment of the lighting situation on set, so that I may choose the best stock for the job. (Specifically my upcoming shoot on Sat.) Thank You Maxwell T. McAdams Director/Lmsd Tv Prod. Silent Storm Pictures
  10. I have been instructed that a Zeiss 10mm lense is T2 while the Cannon 10mm is T2.8. I have also been warned not to choose the wrong lense, out of the those two, for my shoot on Wed. as it will effect the outcome drastically. I am a director slowly feeling out steady ground in the complex technical aspects of cinemetography. (I tell you this because I'd probably be one pathetic DP if I were asking this question.:) Thank you. Maxwell T. McAdams Director/Lmsd Tv Prod. Silent Storm Pictures
