  1. Has anyone had any experience with running HMIs from generators? I'm only looking to use a 575 but i'd like to know if anyone could point me in the direction of some good resources on the subject.
  2. I understand where you're coming from. I read somewhere that Kubrick often tried to use the camera to form a separation between the audience and the characters on screen. His work is truly distinct and I guess it's just not for everyone. I think the aspects that you hate about Kubrick are the ones that I love :) My list is: Movies: Withnail and I A Clockwork Orange Y Tu Mama Tambien Director: Stanley Kubrick Terrence Malik Wong Kar Wai Cinematographers: Emmanuel Lubezki Christopher Doyle Jack Cardiff
  3. I'm shooting Day for Night for a short film soon too. From what I can gather the important things are: 1. Avoid framing in any sky 2. Shoot on an overcast day or at twilight to avoid contrasted shadows. 3. Backlight actors and do not key light them to strongly. 4. avoid fill light by using floppies as neg fill etc. I'm new to this too so any other advice would be appreciated.
  4. Just wondering if any experienced DPs could explain step by step the way they test lenses in pre-production? I know it can vary a lot depending on what the production is but i'd like to learn a detailed process of how a professional would undertake lens testing.
