  1. I've also already answered the survey, looking forward to follow the progress.
  2. Some thoughts from my perspective as some one who's been shooting beta, DV and digital since I started filming tv-shows around 14 years ago… Earlier this year I noticed how low the price of s16 cameras had become and felt that I finally could take action and follow my long dream of shooting film. I just missed Fujis production, but I'm very great full to still have the Kodak Vision 3 stock. Now my biggest nightmare is that Kodak will stop production and leave me with a feeling of being some decades to late to the party. I believe the most important thing I can do film stock wise is to buy as much Kodak film I can (and develop at my local lab to support them). But I'm very glad for any effort from small companies to start production. If Kodak fail, they (the small companies) might be all that's left. So even if I don't expect Ferrania or any other small manufacturer to have the same quality to begin with, I'm very happy to do what I can to get them started so there'll be as many options as possible. I'm not saying it will be… but even if this first batch would be terrible... I'd still like to test it and be a part of something new that could benefit all film shooters in the future. I understand that some of you want to know the technical details, I just wanted to share my opinion and show my support. Also I'd like to say that for me digital cameras have their given place for tv-shows an similar (what I do for a living), but I think film needs to live for those times when you need the emotion that I feel only film can capture (what I do as a hobby/passion). Take care! Kalle
  3. Hi, I've just been using the SrII (S16 converted) With Zeiss Super Speeds and no extras. Thought the maximum wight was more… it will probably work for you, but I'm not an expert. It's quite cheap compared to O'connor and similar. Maybe a used O'connor could be a good idea for you? Good luck!
  4. Sorry, I think that I made a mistake by adding my website info, can I remove it if it's against the forum rules?
  5. Hi! I have a Cartoni Focus HD 100mm head with "carbon tripod 1stage DV 3 tube" legs. It works good with my SRII. What I like about it is that the counter balance is adjustable to also balance light cameras, so I can use it for my "day jobs" with lighter digital cameras too. Take care/Kalle
  6. 1. Is this an affordable price? he he 2. Which film speed you use most ? 3. How many cans you will buy as the first order? 4. How many cans (800' of film) you think you'll buy/ month at this price? 5. Are you interested in buying the processing chemicals for it? 1: Yes, I quess... 2: Kodak v3 500t, but never yet shoot b&w so depends on the grain... 3: 1 4: Between 1-20 tells a year, depending on projects and how I like it. 5: no, but maybe a mail-in developing service could be offered? My lab only does color negative film... I'm exited to see projects for new films, for analog stills theres just been two Kickstarters (one successful, Film Ferrania). I'm doing what I can do be able to shoot as much film as possible. I'm probably about to sell my Arriflex SRII to buy a Aaton a-minima, so I'd have to re-spool your film to use it. Any thoughts about film thickness and if it could be a problem with the a-minima? Good luck with your project!
  7. Hi! I'm looking for a used Aaton A-minima. All offers considered, but if possible I'd like a kit with the following: 3-4mags, powerbase, wooden handgrip, batteries and charger, blimp, top handle, PAL video assist. EU sale preferred if possible. Sadly for any seller I've seen that the prices for A-minimas have gone down quite a lot… but if you sell to me you'll at least know that it will be loved and used :) Looking forward to hear from you! Take care/Kalle, Sweden (contact info at www.kallefolke.se)
  8. After shooting more I'm sure I get more feeling for the limits of the camera. Like if it's always more unsteady at the end of a roll I'll try to keep that in mind when planning the shot. Also I just tried Warp stabilizer in Premiere CC on the most unsteady part and it worked really well. Seems like I'll be able to live with this, just nice to learn what's causing it and hear what you forum members think. Warp stabilizer is actually quite amazing, I've done whole shoots that's supposed to have a "locked down" feeling without a tripod (because of traveling light and hectic schedule) and then uses WS in post and results was perfect.
  9. As you see in the quote above I've shoot with two different stocks. I think Dom is right and that this should be considered normal for Sr2´s (if I've understood him correctly).
  10. Thanks once again for your time. Just out of curiosity- around how much was it in those days to change the rails? I hope I'll find a "old" service technician in Stockholm that was around during these cameras glory days. Even if the camera seems to be in good shape now it would feel secure to have someone to turn to if problems arise. Here in Stockholm the video/tv-scene and film scene is really segregated so I don't have that many connections on the film-side. Great to have this forum!
  11. Well, problem is it's the only lab in Scandinavia still running so not sure where to send it… Also now when it's more of a personal development project I can't spend too much money on it. But will keep it in mind if I can't live with the issue. So just to make sure I understand correctly: This would still be an issue even if I change the gate/camera? I think the lab has a Scanity (can double check this…). Thanks for all your help, it's a lot to take in and I appreciate that you're all so generous with your time and knowledge. Will continue to do tests, but at the same time try to start getting some footage that useful for a personal project I'm planning to do. Let's hope I'll find a way to work around the "moving" or that it won't be a mayor issue in most footage.
  12. Hi, I'm planning a personal documentary project where I'd really need to get close to dust. I'll shoot on a Super 16 and pl-mount converted Arri Sr2. What good pl-mount macro lenses are there? Also how do I do and what equipment do I need to film a microscope or get a "microscopic" image? Any help would be appreciated, thank you/Kalle
  13. Thank you both for you input, makes total sense. I can't really see any groove on the rails/gate, but I guess it could still be worn. I don't know any detailed history about the camera except that it's been used by a German tv-network. So even if the Super16 gate can't be very old there's probably been a good amount of film passing the gate. My guess is that changing to a unused gate (a Sr3 Advanced gate would be best maybe?) would be more expensive than what I payed for the camera (1800€ for complete kit). Is this correct, or do you know about any good places to look, preferably in Europe? I'd love to find a service tech in Sweden... A lot of things to learn, but also very exiting. Thanks again!
  14. Hi again, Did some quick research on gate weave and could it be that this is a general problem with all Sr's before the Sr3 Advanced with it's improved gate? If this is considered "normal" I guess I'll have to shoot hand held all the time...
  15. Thanks for your reply. What is "Gate Weave"? Even if the perfs look stable the whole frame is moving. You also see it clearly in this video after 03.25: https://vimeo.com/89728141 That test shot is on a locked off tripod but the frame is still moving. I mostly shot my test handheld and then it's not as noticeable. The first picture steadiness test is shoot on an expired Kodak 7207 250D and everything else on a fresh Kodak 7219 500T, so it shouldn't be a problem caused by the film. Looking forward to hear any thoughts.
  16. Hi! I'm happy owner of a used Arri Sr2. I come from the "video world" and shooting film has been a life long dream to me. I'm very great full for this forum and have had a lot of help from it. After doing my first tests I have a million questions… It would be a bit too overwhelming to write everything now, so I'll start with my main concern. See this: https://vimeo.com/90344273 I've uploaded a test on Vimeo, I'm not sure what the english word is (in Swedish I think it's bildstilleståndstest- a unique word with no match on google, haha). In the video you'll see that the whole gate is moving a bit, but the lines that are double exposed seems to move consistently. From what I've understood this should mean that the camera produces a stable image. Why then is the whole frame moving? Is this a problem with scanning? On my Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/folkefolke I've also uploaded more from my first test with Kodak 7219. Any feedback would be appreciated, and I'm sure I'll keep the post's with questions coming... Hope I managed to make sense even if I'm lacking the technical terms in english. Thank you/Kalle
