  1. Matt, The manufacturer of Speed-RailĀ® is a company called Hollaender Manufacturing, and they are based out of Cincinnati, OH. You can download a catalog from there website, Hollaender.com. You want to look under the "slip-on fittings" section of their "Products" page. There a few sizes of Speed-Rail fittings, the standard(s) tends to be 1-1/2"OD and 2" OD , as that is the size other companies (ie. Matthews / American Grip / Avenger) use to make additional clamps (truss) and hardware. Depending on the Speed-Rail fitting(s), you only have one or two tubing sizes to choose from. You can order directly from Hollaender, just download the order form and find their contact info from the "Order" page on the website. Also, you might be able find several lighting and grip rental houses in your area that periodically sell used inventory. When it comes to speed rail, as long as it isn't cracked, and the fittings are not out of shape, or bent, you should be fine. Also, you can buy spare set screws, for cheap, from Hollaender. I have run into a few key grips that keep a couple dozen spare set screws in their bag, as they have a tendency to rattle loose. Regards, jordan miller RentCam, Inc.
  2. I was curious if any one has a suggestion and / or recommedation regarding handles for the Angenieux 24-290mm Optimo and 17-80mm Optimo? I have had experience with the handle(s) available from Clairmont Camera, but have not used the lenses with handles from Oppenheimer or Isaia, which seem to be the only other companies making them. Clairmount is not interested in selling any of there handles, so I would like find some available to purchase. We are looking to invest in some new lens inventory, to include the Angenieux 24-290mm Optimo, as well as the 17-80mm Optimo, and can't imagine these lenses being used without the handles. If any one has some experience with ANY aftermarket handles for the Optimos, your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, jordan miller
  3. Another option is some zooms from Vantage Film (Germany). They have a very nice (rehoused Nikon) zoom, its 17-55mm T2.8, as well as a Hawk Spherical 10-24mm T2.5. I have used the Vantage (Nikon) 17-55mm, and I have to say, its a phenomenal lens. Weighs less than 4 lbs, something like 5"-6" long, and it focus' down to approx 1'. I can't speak from personal experience on the Hawk 10-24, but judging by their reputation for Anamorphics, I am sure its a sweet lens. Check out Vantage Film, and go to the downloads section of the equipment page(s). There are some PDF's on the lenses I mentioned. You might give them a call (or email) and see if there are any rental houses in US that have their lenses in inventory. respectfully, j. elliott
  4. I was curious if anyone has had chance to use any SL Cine magazines on the 235. They have announced a new mag specifically for the 235 (see link on front page of this site), but I understand there other mags (ie. 435 / retromag / aluminum low profile) will work with the 235, considering it is compatible with most 435 mags. My experience with mags on the 235 is with the Arrimags 400' and Arri 235 Low Profile 200 / 400 shoulder mags... I am really interested in the Retromags (200' and 400'). The size of the 200' retro is very attractive. Not to mention the prices in comparison to Arri's. If anyone has some experience with these mags on a 235, or even a 435, I would greatly appreciate your input. SL Cine Retromag 200' SL Cine Retromag 400' Respectfully, jordan miller FL USA
  5. Having exhausted the search function of this forum, I am hoping some one can offer some input. I am currently using a Panasonic DVX-100A, occasionly renting an XL2 here and there. I much prefer the XL2, mainly for its native 16:9, and "lens options". Those "lens options" have thus, spawned the following ideas... I am looking for some mechanical lens adapter(s), other than the P+S Mini35, that will allow me to use Arri PL / B lenses on the XL2. The Mini35, and related 35mm lenses, are out of the budget, and I am wanting to own this gear, if possible. I am not looking to debate, RENT vs. OWN, I want to talk lenses / adapters. I am looking to put either R16 or S16 lenses on the XL2, specifcally wide angle Zeiss primes (ie. super speeds and the like). I am looking at adapters like this (ZGC / Optex Adapter), which will adapt various Arri PL lenses to the XL2. I am not worried too much of the exact Arri lens mount, as I find most lenses can adapted from PL to B and back. I am trying to figure out what the conversion, (ie. "magnification factor / angle of view "crop") will be, when using the S16mm lenses on the XL2. I am able to get the exact dimensions of the R16 / S16 frame(s), but I am having trouble finding the dimensions of the XL2 sensor / frame (in 16:9). All I am able to find is the diagonal dimension (ie. 0.289" from Canon). I am familiar with the "crop" / "magnification" factor with 35mm lenses on the XL2 (ie. approx 7-7.8X). If I understand things correctly, the S16 lenses would not be cropped quite as much, given the are intended to cover a smaller frame... If any one can offer some help, in trying to figure what sort of usable "focal length" / angle of converage I will get from some R16 / S16 lenses. From what I can gather, it would "need" to use S16 lenses, if shooting 16:9, given the coverage and aspect ratio of of S16 (ie. 1.688:1). Once again, I would appreciate any / all input. Thanks, -intro2trig
