  1. I'm helping out a project in Slovakia atm as an advisor, part of which involved locating film labs for processing. From his initial description it looked like he was seeking a film lab, not a post production house, so I thought to isolate down what he needed and send him the list I had.
  2. Ok, within the Czech republic itself, no, but in neighboring Germany there are several facilities able to handle the 4k and even 6k scans without trouble. In addition, in a few months a facility within neighboring Slovakia might be available as well.
  3. That would make sence, if HD had equal color information to begin with. As you can scan film at up to 32 bits per channel, yes, 128-bit color depth, loosing 30% of the information still leaves it with several orders of magnitude more than HD has ever accomplished. So, I will have to politely disagree with your statements in this fashion. And if one did an optical print-out, that information would not be lost, correct? So, you now have undermined your own points, as Nolan has demonstrated that 35mm can do 8k scans easily with his latest work.

  5. Web sits are not valid web code, no guarantee that they will render properly on web browsers as a result. Might look good on one, and horrid on another.
  6. Now I remember why I might not be paying cash to the actors for my feature, but I am paying them in shares of the movie. (I figured, grab investors, take 8-12 months to do, and have to split profits with them AFTER they are paid back, *or* give the actors the 50% share that would have gone to the investors and split it up front with them instead... now to get some film)
  7. Kodak has an office in Hong Kong I believe, and they would be the best source. As for processing, check out the Kodak lab index: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/s8mm/lab...40.10&lc=en The nearest lab to you would be Retro Enterprises, in Japan, and they only do color reversal.
  8. It did feel a bit long, but a lot of marvelous work in there. I did find a lot of similar shots (in particular the SWAT team style shots) which could be trimmed I guess, but they all are unique in their own way so hard to say.

  12. I ment that they'd cut it to-size if you ordered 100k feet, not that they'd ressurect old discontinued stocks. But, does not matter. Even if I never shoot a frame with it, my main purpose, as decoration, is still valid. A waste depends on how you look at it. Cleaning it up to make it look and run nicely is not a waste as a demonstration or display model in my viewpoint. And stranger things have happened. I am curious however if what I heard of IMAX being shot on 70mm negative stock was true, or if it is just print stock.

  14. 1080p is not a standard, 1080i is. That means one companies 1080p might differ from anothers, resulting in a movie which looks 'wow" on one and "blah" on another. And I will disagree that good 1080p projectes looks sharper and more detailed than standard prints in a standard cinema. But then again, I've also seen Vertigo in the cinema... (anniversary print)
  15. Kodak was telling me that they do make a B&W stock as well, but that was awhile ago when I checked. Doesn't matter. The main idea originally was for a nice decorative camera. However, since then been looking at other options. More as an academic exercise than anything. The components could be adjusted to stock 65mm it appears. Trying to come up with an excuse to do the work and actually do that. And Kodak would make literally any film in any size if you ordered 100k feet I swear. For me, it's a nice exercise, and once cleaned up will look quite lovely. And for the right project, might make it useful again. But till then, still looks nice.
  16. 700 fps in 5-perf mode. It's in the shop for service right now actually, and hopefully the new motor will be ready by the end of the month. Note, it is not 65mm, but full 70mm, same filmstock used in hasselblad long-roll cameras. Someone one told me that IMAX uses the same stock, but I have not yet confirmed. My plan for the camera was to use it for some fx work, but to date all I've done is perform tests with it.

  18. Yes I do realize, but I like to be helpful in all regards. You never know when someone could use a generic apple exploding or such. And the camera is switchable from a 5-perf to a 10-perf but I normally use it on the 5-perf so as to mix with more traditional 65mm footage.
  19. Direct link Remember, a lot of the footage is sub-optimal in origin, but it does look better than the youtube footage.

  22. There are no DVD's to pull the footage off of to begin with. Some I had to pull off of youtube using capturing software, some I had a 1-light transfer to MiniDV. So, the compression + compression == not too hot. But, this is for composition, not for final compression. Still trying to secure a less compressed version of the footage with not much success. *edit* I'll upload a direct copy to my webspace in a bit, so hopefully it's a bit more clear than youtube.
