  1. As for the prism, your subject could move without you realizing or your tape measure can extend overtime. So double checking is always good. I had a shoot that the bananas were being dropped as well as making a circle and going down at the end. I had several opportunities to try and the best approach is to try to sync your hand rotation to the bananas droppings. It took me 3 takes to find this and were good through the whole day. Regards,
  2. If you don't have a wireless focus device, you should use a whip as not to disturb the operator. At the same time while doing that, try not to cast any shadows by standing in front of a light. Learn the distances of your arms lenght from camera to actor. Learn to guess the different lenghts from camera to the actor. Don't let peaking deceive you as it is not to be reliable below 75 mm. That's about it. Lastly get to enjoy coming out of focus to in focus shots Regards
  3. It all depends on your gut at that moment in the set and the tools you are using and the lens you are shooting with. If I have a follow focus that has a gap when pulling focus I don't rack to the slate and back to the character. This situation only applies when shooting with wider lenses than 50 mm. When shooting narrower than 50 mm, I always focus on the slate and then rack to the character. Your job as a focus puller is to have your character in focus. Moreover, your other duty is to give a focus slate so that asistant editor can do his job. Best regards, Erol roni Beraha Focuspuller Istanbul
