  1. Lot of late bauers cannot read the 64t in auto mode. Bauers give superbly steady images tough. A leicina may be over priced but at least you can shoot at f2 and know you wont get a soft image like with every canon i have owned ( 318M, 310,514XL,514XLS,814XLS AND 3 1014XLS)
  2. Hi, i did call kodak at Switzerland, spoke to a nice lady who claims super 8 processing will cease in May 2006, or June or could be September 2006. I asked about double super 8 and double 8, she seemed a little confused about what double super 8 was. Advice given was that all 8mm processing will finish at the same time including double 8. Can anyone confirm this???????????????????????????????????????????? Is the 16mm processing lab at Switzerland closing too or being relocated. I get the feeeling that us loyal kodak user are being kept in the dark. i have invested a lot of cash in double super 8 filmstock, does this mean i have to use it up by may 2006. Andy
  3. just shoot super 8 k40 and ship to the US or Switzerland, we all have to ship either our k40 or 64t out of the country. Surely the simplist way is to shoot on kodachrome. For the classic kodachrome look, shoot some k25 double 8, stocks still available at http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/d8_filmm.php
  4. Hello, please can anyone advise how long kodak at Switzerland will process double super 8 for. Will this finish when super 8 processing ends? Andy
  5. John my apologies, 'i am sorry', I assumed the post originated in the US Andy
  6. Not impressed with your reply John, think you have overlooked 16mm k40 in your reply. Still available and its kodachrome. Also i beleive there are still stocks of super 8 k40 available in the USA, Dwanes will process 8 and 16mm kodachrome.
  7. Hi, got loads of them, i am in the uk, can post a couple to you if required. Send me a private message if you cant find any locally. Andy
  8. I have used a couple of 16mm rolls of 7285 circuschrome, it looks great in daylite compared to 16mm k40. And it should look great for super 8 too. Although the 16mm image was clean, it seemed less sharp than k40. Colours are not natural compared to k40, way oot. Why oh why couldnt kodak give us a modern E6 100d film for super 8 instead of there old 64t film, obviously found a stock pile of 64t and decided to dump it on us super 8 users. As kodak wish to save money, why didnt they dump 64t,100d, and use their latest E6 slide film for super 8 and 16mm, then dump 16mm k40. ( sorry 16mm k40 will be dumped soon anyway)
  9. Hi, still 25ft of 64t to use up before i get to see a projected 64t result. How does it compare to k40, it looks grainy and flat to me. Is it sharper than k40?
  10. Have you tried BBC resources for your T/K, rank mkIII onto mini dv, beta sp, digi beta etc around £185.00 per hour plus VAT, i beleive you can book just 15 mins if required, hire of digi beta machine in with the price. Have used them a few times, highly recommended. If you shoot k40 or 64t, you can edit the film at home then take just your 4.5 min production for t/k, that will save a lot of costs.
  11. Hi, will you be projecting your results or transferring to video??? If going straight to tape i would advise using neg film 200t and for low lite 500t. If you require the finished film on film, then k40 is the best option, then this new 64t stock, though low lite shots will be a problem. Test that chinon with a roll of k40 in various situations before starting your project. Try and lock the exposure when possible ( quite a few members had chinon cameras at our local cine club years ago, i remember they nearly always underexposed and the auto iris shut down with any hint of sky in the scene). First task is to test that camera. Good Luck
  12. Will, i have heard that all the kodachrome that will ever be has been made, Kodak are just using up a stock pile. K25 sold out first as it was the better product, we're just left the dreggs at the bottom of the barrel ( k40). Have a feeling kodak will make an official announcement next year about the discontinuance of 16mm k40, for a Dec 2007 shutdown of the Swiss lab. Time will tell. Ordered today for a tomorrow delivery of 10 rolls of 16mm k40, be interested to see the expiry date on the box, previous 15 i ordered a couple of weeks back exp 3/2006. There was a time when you had around two years before the exp date ended on fresh stock. When k40 goes I just hope kodak will bring out a higher resolving daylite reversal film than the current 100d circuschrome.
  13. Treat yourself to some k40 before its all gone, you many never get another chance to make a 2005 movie look like 1978 again!!!!!!!!!!! Alessandro, do you shoot super 8 or 16mm k40?. I find super 8 k40 for some reason gives better colour saturation compared to 16mm k40, i know it sounds stupid, the only thing i can put it down to is the lenses? wish to comment anyone????

Santo, with you all the way with your reply. Its ashame more people didn't cry out when k25 was discontinued. I too wish kodak put a daylite stock into the super 8 cartridge back in the 60's. To the present, have kodak a large pile of 64t they want rid of, so they gave it to us. Possibly their oldest emulsion too!!!!! I have tried kodaks circus chrome, sorry, 7285, looks great in daylite, not as sharp as k40 to my eyes, and the colors oot. Cannot find an mtf curve for 64t, but the e100g curve's show the stock aint as sharp as k40, so i wonder if the 64t has the greater resolving power, hence why kodak opted to use the stock. Amazed that kodak cannot produce a film that has greater resolving power than k25 for the slide/motion picture industry, i could be wrong and the stock exists??. All i want is a daylite balanced film with equal resolving power to k25 in the super 8 and 16mm format.

Alessandro, i have messed with filters, also i dont squirt k40 off for the sake of art. Their is nothing wrong with the superb processing at Switzerland. Skratch words are my excact findings with k40, k40 has a ''narrow window of looking good'' Alessandro, my comments regarding muddy looking k40 is when comparing k40 with k25. Have you ever exposed 16mm or double super 8 k25??. I still say k40 is crap compared to k25 in a daylite shoot. I am a massive kodachrome fan, i must say i certainly dont relish the dawn of the 64t. Also i see its the begining of the end of 16mm k40. Andy

Totally agree with you regarding the business and technical side of the argument. K40 has had its day, kodak must be losing money on the processing. However,my opinion, so please dont rip my head off. I dont think kodachrome has been surpassed for home movies or for the enthusiastic amateur like me. I do use neg, but mainly shoot kodachrome. K40 is a crap stock that looks muddy in daylite applications compared to k25. Apart from my k40 gripe, i use it, and shot around 200 rolls this year, why because its cheap and in the deal, great archival qualities. Now take a look at kodachrome 25, once kodaks trump card now discontinued, k25 gives the new 50d a good run for its money. I will place money in 50 years time kodachrome will require less colour correcting in the t/k than any modern neg stock. So i dont think it has been surpassed yet!!!!!
  17. Hi, thanks for the replies, 7267 (k25) still appears to be unsurpassed in term of sharpness. Not bad for a 30 year old filmstock, prior to that KII of course. I am very surprised the new stock is not a lot,lot sharper.
  18. Which stock will have the greater resolving power, k25 or the new 7201. Here is the mtf curve for k25 http://www.kodak.com/US/plugins/acrobat/en...rves/7267MT.pdf i ask the question as i am not 100% sure on how you read mtf curves. Andy

    kodachrome

Being an amateur and only ever requiring a camera original for direct projection, i agree kodachrome is no good for duplication etc. Just looked at the MTF curve for k25 and 7201, am i reading the curves correctly?, k25 appears to have the greater resolving power compared to the new 7201. I know k25 is a thing of the past, just curious. http://www.kodak.com/US/plugins/acrobat/en...rves/7267MT.pdf

Wow, i wished, 35mm kodachrome 25 in motion picture, would have probably blown all modern stocks away in good lite.
  21. Its the processing of the film which concerns me, as and when the Swiss lab closes all we have is Dwanes who will only process kodachrome as long as kodak sells kodachrome ( believe it says something like on Dwanes website) Question for KODAK, when will the official annoucement be for the end of 16mm kodachrome???????????
