I've just been on a small shoot today and half way through filming with the Sony A7Rii it forces me to re-format the SDXC card... Otherwise I can't film. So I re-format it as I had to film and all the footage was wiped. This has happened twice now... Trying to recover the footage - any recommendations?? And WHY is this happening? Thanks!!

Hiring out own equipment
Charlie Manton replied to Charlie Manton's topic in Business Practices & Producing
Might try and get it to 60 (me) and 40 (them). Is a 40 minute drive to this place, which I would need to do. R:E Insurance - I haven't insured the camera yet, I assume I would need to insure it for my personal use. Then they would need to insure it for their hiring out etc...? Thanks, Charlie -
Hi, I am in touch with a hire house who want to hire out my new Sony A7RII. The cut would be 50/50 - is this a good deal or not so good? What do you think? Thanks!

Lighting Setup - Seedy Office
Charlie Manton replied to Charlie Manton's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
I was thinking if the light source came from out of the frame - above - there wouldn't need to be a frame at all. It just comes from above so to say. Which would be the best - Arri 1.2KW HMI, Arri M8 or Arri 2.5KW HMI??? Love the shot Stefano! -
Lighting Setup - Seedy Office
Charlie Manton replied to Charlie Manton's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Thanks Satsuki! Yes - will be easy to get the light up high - so maybe I have it out of frame as don't have the budget to rig a big window etc. Would you suggest a 2K HMI? or 4K? On the desk will be an old computer monitor, which I want to slightly light the actors face. And will also have a magnifier lamp. Thanks! -

Lighting Setup - Seedy Office
Charlie Manton replied to Charlie Manton's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Thanks for the reply - sounds great! The office location/room is a large dark space (picture below). Where the desk/man will be is in front of a large DJ booth which is positioned slightly off the ground - around 15 - 20 feet - so ideal to place the light source. There is the option to have the source in shot. Would the light then need to be diffused through a large silk? The space isn't too wide - so I don't want the light to spill to far to the side and reveal not so nice walls/things. -

I am shooting two scenes next week set in a Seedy waiting room and office. Shooting on the Sony A7RII Locations - Waiting Room INT. https://www.flickr.com/photos/88377241@N06/albums/72157656792164673 OFFICE/Nightclub/Rooms etc https://www.flickr.com/photos/88377241@N06/albums/72157659120247681 Have attached a picture of the effect I'm going for in the Office. The setup for the office/surgery is a man sat at a large desk, and a young girl walks in. I was thinking how to achieve this - would Kino Flo's with daylight tubes create a similar effect? Would be great to hear your thoughts and advice.

Hi, Am starting a new project, which involves capturing a camera flash. What is the best way to capture a camera flash? Thanks, Charlie

And it is such a great size - tiny! Yes... Will wait for the Loxia to expand. Will go for the 24mm 1.4 Rokinon - the Cine ones are around $200 more - and the glass is the same it seems.
-
Just got the Loxia 50mm through and it feels/looks amazing - can't wait to see the results. In terms of a temporary 24 or 25mm lens until the Loxia line expands - what would you recommend? Thanks
-
Awesome - thanks! Didn't buy new - found one on Ebay for £200 less than retail - although it is used (but in very good condition/looks new). Now just onto finding at 20-28mm lense - thinking of something temporary until Zeiss expand the Loxia range and there would hopefully be a 24mm.
-
Currently gone for the 50mm Loxia F.2 - do you think this is a far superior choice to the Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 ZF.2? Looking for a good 21-28mm prime at the moment. Thanks!
-
Thanks for those. Having trouble with the site. What do you think about the 28mm F2.0? Can't see the sharpness.
-
Great - thanks again! Will probably go for the Zeiss Distagon 25mm F2.8 and Zeiss Planar 50mm F1.4 and when the Loxia adds a wider lense will upgrade to the Loxia's. Ahhhh. Tough choices...
-
Thanks for this - really appreciate it! Loads of really helpful pointers. Have gone off the Samyang a bit... Was just about to buy the Carl Zeiss Distagon 25mm F2.8 and the Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm F1.4. I prefer having slightly wider lenses... Also the 25mm will also be 37mm (in 35mm/1.5 crop mode) and the 50mm will also be 75mm (in 35mm/1.5 crop mode). What do you think about that choice? Will then, if I add to the set get a Carl Zeiss 80mm 1.4 or something else. Have heard the Leica Summricon-r are incredible lenses and MUCH cheaper than the m's - it just seems that there is a lot of vignetting etc. The Loxia is very tempting! And if there were a 25mm and 50mm I would have digged deeper into my wallet! Thanks!

I've got the new Sony A7Rii. Will be using it for mainly Video aswell as stills. What lenses do you recommend? Have around £1,000 to spend (give or take a few hundred maybe...) Have been looking at the Samyang Cine Lenses Also the Sony Sonmar And then the Voigtlanders - this seem great! But when in full frame there is substantial vignetting... Any thoughts / recommendations? What to have a lense that can shoot full frame, so it essentially gives me two focal lengths with the sony a7rii's crop mode. Thanks!

I've ordered the new Sony A7Rii. I am a Director/DOP and have upgraded from the 60D... Looking to spend up to £2,000 on some lenses. Will be shooting in 4K also. I have been looking at the Samyang/Rokinon Cine Lenses. Will they still hold up at 4K? Any suggestions???? Am veering towards primes too. Another thing I am considering is getting a 24mm and then a 50mm prime. As with the A7Rii you can change from full frame to super 35mm crop - it will therefor make a 24mm be 36 (ish) mm, and the 50mm a 75 (ish) mm. Would be great to have any suggestions / recommendations????? Thanks!

How has this shot been lit?
Charlie Manton replied to Charlie Manton's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Thanks Tim. Would you think something like a mini Kino Flo would have been used for the face? Definitely Fluorescent? The lamp in the background is a standard tungsten bulb? Apart from those two lights do you think there is anything else lighting this scene? Thanks -
