  1. hi Davide, I always have a small clipboard and velcro it on the back of the slate and have another binder clips on the other side. I have been using this system for years, it works great for me. It fits with dummy slate, smart slate, mini smart slate, insert slate, or you can put it on the pouch (depends how big your pouch is). This does not take a lot of work. I always keep velcro soft and hard side at least half foot in my pouch with fiskar scissor, it can be done in less than a min. The system of having camera log book putting it in your pouch is way too much work and you don't have hard surface to write on. Production gives us 3 pages(white, pink, yellow pages) of camera log, each card reload, you give one to production, one to post production/DIT, one for yourself. I never had a DIT takes a picture of my log.
  2. I am Los Angeles based AC. I do keep my rain cover on my kit, but LA does not rain alot, I usually keep my gears simple and leave it at home. I will bring it over if I know we would deal with special effects, it comes very handy. I personally don't like camera rain covers specifically made for camera where rental houses usually have, they are not convenient, too many unnecessary velcros, not easy to wrap and unwrap. When I travel out of state, where usually it rains alot more than LA, I'd bring it on my kit. I always like clear plastic, you can see the buttons on camera.
  3. During transpo, remove the lens. Company move, remove the lens. Day's wrap, remove the lens. I work with a gaffer who operates sometimes or somebody who does "everything". I understand the Cam OP is the higher authority than the first AC, but nonetheless, the first AC is in charge of what's on the camera.
