  1. They said they have 30 rolls of it. (+/- 3,000 feet) If it is us your alley, make them a package deal offer for them all. A nice thing about eBay is they stand behind purchases. Seller says film is tested and shows an example, so not too much risk. 10 rolls Tasma ОЧ-45 16mm black & white Reversal Movie Film. Tested! | eBay
  2. Source: diyphotography Is it fake news? And even if fake, many knuckleheads out there are against cropping and PP.
  3. https://www.diyphotography.net/not-labeling-edited-photos-is-now-illegal-in-norway/? Norway has introduced a new law aimed to tackle unrealistic and potentially dangerous beauty standards. From now on, any social media post made for promotional purposes has to clearly state if the photos or videos in it were altered. Those who don’t do it will be fined or even end up in jail. About 99.9% of my stuff is post processed and cropped. But not for beauty. You can't shoot photos like this without lots of post work and get these results. And maybe I should say 'without a tremendous amount of post work' for some of them. Staten Island Ferry - Candid Selection from The American's...60 years after Frank project. Selection from De Wallen: Amsterdam's Red Light District - Candid Selection from De Wallen: Amsterdam's Red Light District - Candid Selection from De Wallen: Amsterdam's Red Light District - Candid Even landscapes need PP... Selection from De Wallen: Amsterdam's Red Light District To shoot my De Wallen project everything had to be pushed a few stops and extensive contrast grading. Selection from De Wallen: Amsterdam's Red Light District - Candid All the Amsterdam night shots are candid and shot in a place where photography is banned. You can get your ass kicked if caught. When I say I do highest level candid photography this is it...I'm not bullshiting or bragging. Transwoman and Friend - Infrared Flash Candid Infrared flash looks nothing like this raw. Selection from The American's...60 years after Frank project. St Patrick's Cathedral - Candid Selection from The American's...60 years after Frank project. Little Dickey I spent hours on this for post work. - Selection from The American's...60 years after Frank project. Living in a Carboard Box Infrared Flash Candid - Selection from The American's...60 years after Frank project. This was especially hard to PP. the bright white board was a foot from the infrared flash. The lady was about 6 feet inside the dark box. The raw photo looked nothing like this. And tons of lens flare from the flash reflecting off the white board. They had a knucklehead on one of the photo forums that was discussing whether to crop or not crop a photo. The knucklehead said..."If a photo had to be cropped it was not meant to be taken." You will find the same opinions as to post processing. If you are doing documentary work, then the post work should not make a material difference as to the honesty of the photo...as long as you are presenting it as a factual reality. When it comes to art, you can do as you like. No photo police to boss us around...except in Norway. If it is crime scene photos, nothing material should be touched. Just contrast grading. Here is the Hierarchy of Documentary Photography* 1. Candid events unfolding as they happen. 2. If it cannot be perfected or obtained as a candid, then the photo must be posed. 3. If it cannot be perfected or obtained as a posed photo, then it must be staged with the proviso it is a recreation of past events, preferably with the actual persons reenacting the events. 4. Figments of the imagination. Varies in documentary value. Can be based on pure speculation or a recount of events. *Created by Daniel D. Teoli Jr.
  4. From 16mm eBay listing He is a big time comic character and I never heard of him. Barney Google and Snuffy Smith - Wikipedia I was wondering if Google took their name from him.
  5. Guess it is not bad if you are charging $10K a day to scan 35mm films. First little 8mm reel I had scanned years ago cost may $300+ for the MP$, extra DVD's, noise reduction and getting the TIFF files. Scanning companies are rolling in $.
  6. $2,000,000 to $9,000. That is crazy depreciation. Pus they didn't pay $9,000 for it. This was title to listing... Spirit 4k film scanner telecine 35mm + spare Cards + Davici Lots of chip cards with it. Reminds me of the old Xmas lightbulb joke. One goes out and they all goes out. It also comes with some DaVinci gear and another film gate. But don't know what it is all for. You would think they would take that time to dust off the control panel. I understand the scanner companies want to sell you maintenance insurance when you buy a scanner. I guess you would really need it for this baby.

When was this Spirit 4K scanner state of the art?
  8. From eBay....$2420 opening bid. What dates was it in use? Anyone have experience with it for comments? I like how it has markings to show the route of the film.
  9. Why do you make things so hard on yourself OP? https://help.cinestillfilm.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028874012-What-is-Remjet-#:~:text=Remjet is a protective layer,do not have remjet backing.
  10. Someone on eBay had a film about a nudist camp. They said magnetic sound was added later and then a commentary recorded. Was it very pricey to add magnetic sound to a film? Was magnetic sound used mainly for post sound addition to silent films? Or did they have magnetic sound film they ran through the camera to record sound live? What sort of recording device did they use to record on the magnetic strip when adding sound to a film? Thanks
  11. https://daniel-d-teoli-jr-archival-collection-ii.home.blog/2021/06/29/it-takes-to-be-an-archivist/ Discusses digital collecting as a low budget alternative to physical collecting of archival material
  12. Yes, agree. Personal prejudice is a big deal nowadays. And it is not just in the music video area. In the old days there was not as many people to take a job. Now they have lots of replacements and will can your ass in a second. I guess the internet messed things up. Someone sees you doing something questionable, then snap a cell phone shot, put it online and boom! Now flash mobs can form in no time and set out to destroy anyone that does not mesh with the prevailing world view held by those in power. That was not easy to do back in the day. Plus the police would crack heads if the mob acted up. Depending on the city, the mob has full control. Cops are ordered to stand down. This is not Mayberry anymore. Since you are so paranoid, protect your name if you have concerns. Bee choosy or use an alias for questionable work. Trouble is you never know when something is acceptable now and cancelable later. No magic bullet. You can make yourself crazy over this stuff.
  13. Well, I always said...if it is legal do as you like. But in 2021 that does not always fly any longer. The only project I didn't like doing and quit, was acid attack victims. Too depressing and sad. Plus all the material I was working with was low res. I've mentioned this before to the group, one of the few working prejudices I have is with low res material . So I figured why depress myself for low res garbage and gave up on that project.
  14. https://archive.org/search.php?query=Track 16 Gallery Past Imperfect Show by Richard Nielsen Is it stitched still photos or video? Thanks
  15. Well, I got the Jackson DVD from the library. About 4 hours long. Maybe it was 2 hours too long. The last 2 hours was just more crying and complaining about Jackson having sexual contact with the kids. Amazed the stage moms were so mesmerized they would let their kids sleep with Jackson. In the future things may be worse for professionals. So, depending on your project, you may have to pick your projects carefully or use a nom de plume / alias or go uncredited. It will be just like the old stag film days with made-up names for credit. The dems own MSM, the newspapers, high tech, social media, TV, Hollywood, major league sports, popular culture, big biz, governors and many mayors. They own the schools, higher education. Plus they own half of America's vote. So, see how your project meshes with them before you ruin your carrer. The reps have no power. They can't cancel anyone really. So you don't have to worry about them most likely. The reps used to have the power, but that was many decades ago. Nowadays you just have to worry about who controls the 1A...they have the power. I had heard on NPR that a white gal was on a TV show and some black gal cancelled her cause the girl attended a antebellum party at her college. She apologized profusely, but was still cancelled. Then some guy associetd with the show (or with pull) stepped up and asked for the girl's redemption because she was stupid and young. Then he got canceled for asking for redemption for the girl. (Now, I don't know if I got this all 100% as I came in after the story was running. But this generally is what I gathered.) I thought to myself, Jeeesus, what is wrong with going to an antebellum party? Why should you apologize? It is not like goining to a slave trading auction or lynching. But, I'm old and don't understand how things work nowadays. In any case, that is our world in 2021. I have a comix for you guys and gals that illustrates perfectly the state of affairs in the USA in 2021, but it is a little too strong, so I will have to pass on posting it as I don't want to get in trouble. Also on that NPR show was a tribute to the late Ned Beatty with Terry Gross. They were discussing Deliverance, specifically the scene where Ned gets butt raped by the hillbilly. Terry said the crew / cameraman was disgusted by the scene. Terry said they were homophobes. So...moral of the story...don't go to antebellum parties or wear hoop skirts. And keep a GD smile on your face when you are on the set. https://www.npr.org/2021/06/18/1007612868/remembering-character-actor-ned-beatty Text from audio: TERRY GROSS: Your first film role was in the movie "Deliverance." Did you have any reservations about making your screen debut in a role where the character is raped by a man? BEATTY: No. As far as I can recall, it never occurred to me. As a matter of fact, I was sort of, in a way, shocked by how people reacted to that. I was shocked, as a matter of fact, even when we filmed it, how difficult it was for the crew. There were people who didn't want to do the scene. At that point, my feeling about my work, my craft, my art, if you will, was the fact that I simply serve the story. So it wasn't in my lexicon of thinking about acting whether or not I was going to be identified with this character and what happened to him. GROSS: You mentioned how surprised you were at the cameraman's horrified reaction to the rape scene in "Deliverance." And do you think it's a combination of two things - one, the humiliation of rape, but, two, a certain amount of homophobia? BEATTY: I really think it had to do with how well we did the scene. GROSS: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
  16. You just have to work blind, without expectations. But, with lots of rejection, it can get depressing. Glad things are looking bright for you.
  17. Beautiful work! Some of the scenes drag on a little too long for me. But I got ADD.
  18. Just to update previous post... I just got a second email from ARII about unit pricing. No prices discussed. They said they would get back to me.
  19. Same test with AVI 1080P... AVI 1080p Lossy Compression Degradation Res Test D.D.Teoli Jr. A.C. : D.D.Teoi Jr. A.C. : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
  20. I wrote ARRI to inquire how much a scanner cost. They were confused about my inquiry. They didn't give me a price, but they did give a couple of sources to check on getting scans done even though I didn't ask about that. Here is their reply to my inquiry as to buying a ARRIscanner. ARRI doesn’t offer film scanning/recording services. I would recommend checking out the following places: West Coast: Fotokem and NBC Universal East Coast: Kodak and Technicolor/Postworks ARRI does not seem very promising for me. I guess it would be nightmare getting one repaired with such poor communication. I will stick with working to buy a Lasergraphics. One thing in ARRI's favor, they are prompt with email replies.
  21. Well for my type of work a 4k machine is fine. Most of my films are multi gen dupes. My main want is the sound scanning ability. But I'd like a good image as well. The thing to do if you have time / money is to pp the individual TIFF files of a film scan. The problem is trying to match each frame if the pp is extensive. This took me 2.5 hours in Lightroom and HDR software. It is an example of the highest level revovery that is possible from a 6x6 or 70mm film image. If you had some type of AI software that could duplicate all the adjustments to the frames needing work it may fly. But the work was too extensive for me to duplicate into multi frames. The problem with duplication is with localized contrast grading aka dodging and burning. The problem is not with general controls that affect the entire image.. To get this level of recovery you need both HDR and extensive contrast grading. Either alone won't cut it.
  22. Thanks! Isn't that sad. Never heard much about the Arriscan. Maybe I heard the name mentioned before, but nothing in detail. Some of these scan makers market their products like they are top secret nuclear codes. Maybe it would be good for me if it is outdated. While I would like HDR, I can do without it due to a low budget. What do Arriscan's sell for? In place of HDR I sometimes have to scan film sections at different exposures and marry the best scans in post. It is not HDR, but it is better than a one exposure scan. I do not like doing it as it does not represent how things were projected back in the day. When films were projected they were generally done with one exposure, they didn't have the luxury of changing exposure like we do. So I am torn between showing films as they were projected or showing films in a better light, with the limited hardware and software I have. But HDR is something I'd really like to have. HDR is very important for exposure timing (or is it exposure continuity?) of archival material that was not exposed properly in various sections.
  23. Looks like a Cintel, kinda. https://www.arri.com/en/camera-systems/archive-solutions/arriscan-xt Did you try contacting Arri for a list of scan labs that use their product or if they can do a sample scan for you? How does the Arri compare to a cheap Lasergraphics for archival work of warped 16mm? Like most other scan makers they list no price.
