As a side note, we have hit the end of recording via CRT recorders. So unless someone comes up with a solution that's similar resolution and quality, we may see the end of high quality DI's as well. It could be why Nolan isn't doing full DI's, he doesn't want to waste the poor CRT recorder tubes. Once those are gone, those machines are worthless and the entire industry will have a hard reset on who can do what.

Not necessarily, you just have to find somebody who is passionate enough to invest the time and money into either reverse engineering the Celco tubes or starting from scratch, custom CRTs are still manufactured in the states so it could be done.

Got a reply from Tommy and they expect the price for the Super 16 to be at around 25000 Euro and the Super 8 at around 4500 Euro. Those are attractive prices for professional users.

How did they come to that price? I will wager that in reality it will probably be double or more that amount if it ever reaches the production stage.

Never a good idea to announce a price before you have all your ducks lined up and ready to go.

It also tends to very slightly degrade resolution due to the refraction of the liquid.

Unless your element is damaged, I would not suggest the added expense.  You lose sharpness and gain no real advantage with wet gate printing unless you have base abrasions.

Wet gate printing hides any scratches in the base of the printing elements, the Perc fills in the scratches and has the same refractive index as the celluloid.

    Hi, thanks for your responses.
