  1. This trailer was actually part of a contest. There are a few others out there, none as good as this! If you look around on google enough you will come across them. here's a good one of West Side Story: link
  2. This is my first year in film school.. I'm 19 Oh, and I see you're from Austin. I just moved out here from Houston. Texas is a great place!
  3. Thank you all for your comments! My original idea on the push in at the train tracks was meant to heighten the emotion he was feeling as he looked at the picture. How should this have been shot/edited for that to have come off? From what I've seen in other works, when a thought is going through a character's head, the push in helps the audience realize or helps their understanding of what the character is thinking. What are your thoughts about those kinds of dolly movements? If they are unmotivated, do they hurt or add to the film? Seems to me a shot like that might be a little more interesting than a static shot, as long as the movement doesn't start up in the middle of the shot and take attention away from whats on screen.
  4. -Get a tripod -Avoid quick zooms, or at least dont leave them in while editing -Get a front row seat to film the action, or somewhere where your view isn't blocked -Get some good closeups -The black bird with dark clouds was kinda ominous -The whole rotating camera to get reactions makes me dizzy. Find a good closeup of a member in the crowd, hold the shot for a few seconds, and cut it in. -End on a nice concluding shot (a wide of the church) -Nice music!
  5. I agree with you on the post office shots. I believe we shot that in the morning (the only time we had availible to shoot) and although the exteriors didn't bother me as much, the inside light doesn't match up at all. Flourescents probably would've looked more realistic, but there was a 10 min. window when the sunlight streamed in to the mail room at my dorm. It looks a little too dramatic but Oh well! Thanks for the feedback. I'm a freshman, but I've done a lot before college (everything else on the website) I think I'll put up a better quality compression.
  6. I am a freshman at Chapman in Orange, CA. I put up a page on my website with some of the projects I have done for a class called Visual Storytelling. Except for one of the shorts, dialogue is not allowed.. hence "visual" so we must find ways to convey the story. All of the shorts are shot by myself, most of them written and directed by myself too. But cinematography is my primary focus. I could definently use feedback on my shots and anything else. Thanks! Film School Shorts
  7. John- I would hold up a little bit. My sister is junior at Tisch. I would keep the XL2, save your money, and wait because in a year you'll be working on 16mm for "free" in school. Thats why you're at school, to learn about shooting film properly. So in good time it will come. I say for now just keep shooting and focus on camera work, lighting, etc..
  8. I believe AVID Xpress pro HD should have the standard 3-wheel color correction. Simply select the video track you are working on, put the cursor over the clip you want to correct, then go into the Color Correction mode under Toolset I believe.
  9. Hi, I am a filmschool student at Chapman University in Orange, CA. I have a month off in January that I hope to fill with an internship on a studio feature in the camera department. I am thinking about pursuing a career in cinematography or camera work so something like this would be a tremendous step in that direction. If anyone has any direct leads on something like this or knows of any, I would really appreciate it. I can provide resume, reel, and plenty of reccomendations from established professionals. Here is my personal website with plenty of shorts and other projects: www.banksfilm.com Thank you!!! Tom Banks
