Hi guys, if you wanted to send exposed film from Canada to the US what would be the safest method of doing so? Cost is less of an issue, but ideally I'd like to keep it under a few hundred dollars if possible. My concern with mailing is the chance of random checks using x-ray (I'm not sure if they use CT also). I could in theory pay a courier, though I don't know if that mitigates the risk? Many thanks, Peter

Advice for indoor shoot on 500T

Hi Brian, Do you only lose 2/3 of a stop when using the 85 conversion filter? What if I don't use it and accept the blue cast if I'm shooting outdoors? thanks, Pete -
Hi guys I'm shooting a friends wedding on Saturday using my Arri SR1. I've got some 16mm 500T but read that if shooting in daylight conditions its effective ISO is 320? Can someone confirm this please. I'm not a professional so any tips would be appreciated. bw Pete

Hi there, This is my debut short film shot on my Arri SR. I don't work in the film industry and so it has been a steep learning curve for me. I'm proud of what I've made but am constantly looking to learn and improve. If you have any good or bad feedback, please let me know. I'm particularly interested in how I can level up the cinematography, thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqoLwr-y-Hk

For Sale: Arriflex SR2 High Speed, Super16, PL
Peter Connell replied to Olle Knutson's topic in Cine Marketplace
hi olle is this still for sale? thanks -
Hi guys, Question: What is the best value for money kit to help stabilise my shoulder shooting on an Arri SR? Shoulder pad? Is there a gimbal for your shoulder? Context: I bought an Arri SR last year and have shot two shorts with a tripod. I want to use more over the shoulder shooting for my next project. I have tried some over the shoulder shooting before and its relatively stable but when I started walking there is room for improvement. Many thanks Pete

Quantum/atomic practical effects on 16mm
Peter Connell replied to Peter Connell's topic in Visual Effects Cinematography
Hi Robin I used a rounded flat based glass jar about 25cm wide. Surrounded it with black material. Filled it with water and threw some glitter in there and mixed it in circles then once i had slowed i did some random movement so the particles weren't all going the same way. Turned of all the lights except an aputure amaraon 100W light on low shining from the top. I focussed into the middle of the jar. I basically replicated what those guys did on the YouTube video posted earlier in the thread. Worked out well although I overexposed many of the shots. -

I got my first roll back using my new Arri SR. I'm a hobbyist and was doing lighting, camera, sound, acting all on my own so please don't judge ! Audio very tinny was using a H1N for ease of use but had to filter heavily. On this youtube video is an assimilation of clips including the practical effects I recorded using the tips discussed here. Just thought some of you might want to check it out. I also got the film processed at Pinewood studios kodak lab which was so exciting. If any of you want the practical effects footage I'm happy to share ! bw, Pete -

Arri SR Viewfinder Light Trap Question
Peter Connell replied to Peter Connell's topic in Camera Operating & Gear
thanks - I might buy a cap in the meantime assuming these are available? -
Hi guys I recently purchased my first early model Arri SR. I have been reading Jon Fauer's book on the camera but one thing I'm still uncertain about is the light trap in the viewfinder. When the light trap is in the closed position (requiring eye pressure to open it) is it meant to be completely closed when no pressure is applied? If I place my eye on the viewfinder with no pressure I can still see the fiber-optic screen. My concern is that light may still leak and fog the film. Someone has told me that the light trap is never meant to fully close and only needs to be partially closed. Thank you, Peter
