  1. Yeah, the rolling shutter CMOS artifacts hit most cams with these type sensors. I cant believe they didn't do global exposure sensors for the Red. Are global shutter CMOS sensors that expensive??? Here is a good article on these artifacts by Barry Green. http://dvxuser.com/jason/CMOS-CCD/
  2. One additional link that you should check out. I have a Brevis 35mm imaging adapter made by Cinevate, and the HV20 is widely used with this adapter and is well discussed on this forum. Check forum inside to see photos of HV20s hooked up to this adapter, and there is also lots of sample video clips from HV20 on there. Have fun. http://www.cinevate.com/phpBB2/index.php Here some HV20 rigs below. http://www.cinevate.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1067 http://www.cinevate.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.p...537&start=0
  3. Its a great little camcorder. It is now being discontinued and replaced by the HV30. But ones left in stock at retailer should have decent prices. Read more about the HV20 and HV30 at these links. The last link has to do with tricks to have nearly total control over the exposure on these camcorders. That is because the HV20/HV30 are not pro camcorders and do not have all manual controls. I have one and I love it. It makes a very good 35mm imaging adapter camcorder. http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=139 http://www.hv20.com/index.php http://dvxuser.com/jason/hv20/
  4. Ahhhh! Nevermind.....I see the answer at the bottom of Dave's Response. Thanks again!!!
  5. Thank you Dave, Brian and Patrick. Have you ever tried to do both by yourself with any success??? (Keep frame and pull your own focus)
  6. When talking about camera dolly shots(moving in closer or moving further away).....Is there a generally preferred lens type (wide anglel, normal, or telephoto) for this type of shot? I'm wondering if it is better to try and set things up to try and make sure a focus puller is not needed for this type of shot...or if you just do what you think looks good. Are there any tips some one could give to help ensure nice looking dolly shots?? I don't have any particular scene in mind yet...I'm just wanting some tips to start practicing. Thanks.
  7. Has anyone on here had the chance to play around with the Brevis 35mm adapter made by Cinevate? I just ordered one and I can't wait. All of the sample footage I have seen made with this adapter looks pretty good. :)
  8. I'm wondering now, does it have to be the exact exact shade of green. Maybe just a long sleeve light green shirt and some dishwashing green gloves. Anyone know if this would work?
  9. Does anyone know where to purchase chroma key green outfits to fully mask a puppeteer or other special effects operators during chroma key work??
  10. I finally got my hands on some books. I now have the following titles. Painting with Light by John Alton Film Lighting by Kris Malkiewicz Film Directing Shot by Shot by Steven D. Katz I can say that I definitely love the Painting with Light already and I'll check out the other two as soon as I can. Thanks for all the help.
  11. Thanks again David. The two lights that you mentioned (650w tweenie, and 1k baby fresnel)Will these lights work off of straight residential electricity (120-140voltsAC)? Or do they require a ballast? I was considering renting some lights from a place near my residence but I read somewhere where a lot of this lighting equipment requires these ballasts and I think messing around with that stuff is too much out of my league. But if I can figure out what I'm talking about when I call to rent and the equipment runs off straight residential electric I will definitely consider it. Thanks for the book recommendation Cole.
  12. When Lighting like this....should I start with a completely dark room? (Like a blank canvas to a painter)? What's the best place to start? Subject? Background? creating shadows? I appreciate the help. And just to let you know, I am working with shop lights, double headed 1000w halogens (500w each head), and I also have "two sets" of double headed 500w (250w each head) plus black wrap for control. The ceilings are 17' high.
  13. I'm Glad you mentioned this book, I have already ordered it and it should be arriving by the end of this week. I ordered it based on the cover photo :D and the table of contents. Thanks for the help Dan. What is a View Filter?
  14. I am going to shoot a B&W Noir Short (Mystery suspense type) on DV. I will be shooting with a Panasonic GS400 in color and then desaturate in post. What is a good resourse on "how to" info for this type of lighting technique? Right now I know very little about lighting. I have only read one book "Matters of Light and Depth" by Ross Lowell. I Need to know how to achieve the lighting ratios. Can any one recommend a book, video or just give advice on the basic "need to knows" about this particular lighting technique. Thanks in advance!!!

    Video looking like film

Isn't the Mini35 just a depth of field machine? I always thought that it was just a fancy adaptor with a spinning or vibrating ground glass to macro focus your camcorder on to and be able to hook 35mm lenses to a miniDV camcorder to get a shallower depth of field (like film cameras). Lots of eager and innovative Indies have been making their own DOF machines with pretty decent results. These are wonderful tools that can give you yet another "artistic choice" when starting a project. http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/dof/index.htm
